I agree with everything you say , probably except the Rain King consumation thing. Sure they were comfortable but I don't think they did anything. Alot of people have mentioned The Field Trip ep as being significant to the relationship. I think we need to remember the IVF thing. They still could have been sexually intimate in those eps and only using IVF as many sexually intimate couples do to conceive a child when nature fails. But Mulder's comments about being a pro at doing the five knuckle shuffle tell us that he was not in a sexual relationship with anyone but himself at the time. So we need to put their sexual intimacy later. I too agree that their on screen relationship did not change especially when we knew that something was up such as in Mulder's romantically involved comment in that Fight Club ep. I think we did see a bit of a change. ie Scully flirting and seeming happier. Laughing with Mulder and smiling. Two things that she never ever did for 5 seasons. After allthings she was very happy. It was very obvious that she was bouncy and dippy and and a bit light headed. I think the reason why they didn't change that much in the way they acted towards eachother is because they have felt comfortable enough and in love with eachother enough for so long, and they have acted like a couple for so long that the sex couldn't change what was already there. It was just an add-on to a very intimate and complex relationship rather than a huge life changing event. That's all I can think of to expain it. Other than the fact that the writers didn't know they were supposed to be on together. I think anything we ever saw that gave us hints that they were on together was just pure acting of DD and GA. I didn't like the way Scully didn't look happy in allthings. Or at least loving. I can only think that it was something they have been doing for a while and her look was one of contentment that finally she felt this was right.

It's fun to disect it all isn't it? :-)
