Subject: Something shippers and noromos can agree on??

I haven't been watching any of the season nine eps, and I only watched about half of the season eight eps, but since I still see previews and hear gossip (both in real life and over the interent) about XF, it seems pretty apparent that a Doggett/Reyes romance or UST situation is a big factor in the season nine eps.
Am I the only person who feels that, by setting up this situation, CC is basically screwing both the orginal M&S shippers *AND* the noromos????
For years, CC kept saying that those of us watched the show for the MSR didn't "get" the whole concept of XF and that "speculation about the personal relationship between the two leads" wasn't what the show was supposed to be about.
So. . .what does CC do when DD leaves the show and GA negotiates to have a less active part in it and he has to come up with two new primary XF agents for the ninth season? You'd think he'd relish the chance to finally get an opportunity to concentrate on "scary stories" without all that interpersonal relationship stuff between the leads, right? But does he go with two men (like in "Miami Vice") or two women (like in "Cagney and Lacey") or a man and woman, or both of whom are both happily married to *other* people ( I think "Law and Order" and "NYPD Blue" have both had these kinds of partnerships over the years)?? Does he even go with a single man/single woman partnership, but one in which age differences make it at least unlikely that they'll be much speculation about a possibility of romance?? (This is basically what he had in the Spender/Fowl Thing set-up. As far as I know, this is the one XF partnership which generated *nothing* in the way of romantic speculation, given that he was apparently in his late 20s and she was at least 40. While I'm not saying there's anything "wrong" with a romance in which the woman is 10-12 years older than the man, let's face facts: almost all romances which involve an age difference of more than four or five years are ones in which the man is older.)
NO!!! CC goes with the *exact* same scenario: an unmarried man and an umarried woman, reasonably close in age, who seem to be attrtacted to each other!!!
IMHO, this bites!!!
