Chapter 9: Serendipity
Terina hung up the phone with Star and changed into her night shirt. She brushed her teeth and got into bed. She wasn't exactly tired so she took out the book she had been reading. She didn't even read past the first paragraph when her phone rang. She glanced at her bedside clock. 1:30am!? Who was calling her at this time? She answered the phone and was both surprised and delighted to hear who it was.
Terina: "Talib!"
Talib keeping his voice down: "Did I wake you?"
Terina: "No, not at all. I couldn't sleep..."
Talib: "Me neither... I can't stop thinking about you"
Terina: "Me too… I mean, it hasn't been that long but this is harder than we both thought it would be."
Talib: "I know... I pushed Meg away tonight... I didn't want to do anything if this situation was still up in the air. I couldn't have done that to her... my heart wouldn't have been in it"
Terina: "Oh Talib... as much as we say and try to keep things like it was before, we can't... not after tonight..."
Talib: "I think I just need time to decide what to do... is that okay with you?"
Terina: "Yeah, I think that's fair."
Talib: "Terina, it'll all work out in the end... I promise."
Terina: "It's just the process I'm dreading, will the ends justify the means?"
Talib: "It better... or we're all in for a roller coaster ride."

Star: "Do you really think it's that outrageous?" she being careful not to slip up.
Nique: "Hello! Star! This is Terina and Talib we're talking about"
Star: "Yeah, that's true... that's a pretty far-out suspicion that Meg’s got there," She laughed, trying to cover herself. She hated knowing a secret and not being able to tell anyone. The two girls chatted a little while longer before Nique said she was tired and was going to go to bed. They said good night and hung up.
Star leaned back in her desk chair.
Star thought: ‘Oh man... this is going to get complicated. And fast'

Meanwhile, Nelly and Keisha had retired to bed. Jiz kissed Liz good night and he watched as she drove off down the road. He closed and locked the door and went up the stairs to his room.
As he passed Talib's room, he could hear him speaking. Jiz couldn't help but hear a few words that leapt out at him. Such as "need time," "decide," and "Terina." Jiz's eyes went wide and he went to his room. He didn't need to hear the rest of the conversation to realize what Talib was talking about. He wanted to tell someone but everyone was asleep by now. He contained himself and went to bed.

Talib: "Hang on" He thought he heard someone outside his door. He got out of bed, opened the door and checked. Nobody.
Talib: "Hmm," he mumbled to himself.
Talib said to Terina: "Hey, I'm back, guess I was just imagining it. Anyway, we better get some rest. I'm absolutely exhausted."
Terina: "Me too... I'm starting to get sleepy"
Talib: "I just had to call and talk to you”
Talib: "I love you Terina."
Terina smiled: "I love you too Talib. Good night."
