Like I said, I don't hink it is at all diminishing to the Spice that people before its discovery had interstellar travel. It was much much slower. Again, is the jet engine less impressive because we had sail boats and horses as the primary means of travel 300 years ago. I don't think so

By the time of the classic novels the modes of interstellar travel that doesn't utilize the Spice is obsolete. It is probably still around, though not worth mentioning especially since the Guild monolopoly on Space travel has driven out all other slower, non-spice competitors. Like the Sail Boat, non- Spice related space travel is probably relegated to the rich who pilot their "yacht's" for short distance fun.
Just my thinking.
