Doesn't really bother me... She turned the words over in her mind. They sounded good. He was aware of the oddies, coexisted with them, didn't mind them, and by extension, he wouldn't mind her, right? She considered herself human, just a slightly strange human. At this point, she had almost eliminated the possibility of him being anything out of the ordinary, because he had spoken about the oddies with distance, not admitting to being one. Heh. Who knows why she was so ready to ignore all the other evidence to the contrary, like his initial discomfort when she brought up the topic.

"I'm sorry. I think we got off on the wrong foot," she said to him, hesitantly, thoughtfully. "Can we start again?" she asked, smiling hopefully. She rummaged through her bag, searching for something. Found it! Out of her bag came an almost-full bottle of vodka. "Will you have a drink with me, as a gesture of gratitude for you taking pity on a stranger?" she asked with solemnity, though her lips quirked upwards at the corners in a hidden smile. Was she mocking him? Perhaps, but she didn't mean it in a cruel way. If anything, she was trying to deflect from the discomfort of the preceding conversation. And, of course, she wanted him to be her friend. She was reminded of one of her mother's oft-repeated life lessons: When dining at a friend's house, always bring a gift. This wasn't his house, they weren't dining, and she wasn't sure if they were friends yet, but the principle still applied, she thought. As a gift, alcohol suited the bill. And she knew of no better way for people to get acquainted.
