Though the day had barely begun--the clock in the dash of Seth's jeep read just 6:05 am--it seemed to perfectly match Nev's gloomy mood. It was misty, tiny raindrops a constant on the windshield...a prequel to the promised rainstorm that was to come. The mountains looked hazy and mysterious in the distance, their tops disappearing in a thick and dark fog. It wouldn't be long until they made it to the airport, and Nev hoped for Seth's sake that he rain would hold off until he made it back to Cascade. She'd worry of him driving those winding roads in a full storm, even if she doubted he'd have any trouble with it.

Outwardly, she supposed she looked the same as ever--poised and put-together, ever the businesswoman. She'd dressed professionally today--a dark brown pencil skirt hugged her hips, and a soft pink blouse and matching brown jacket pulled the ensemble together. She had dressed with work in mind--the moment she landed in New York, she intended to bury herself completely in her work. Perhaps pull an all-nighter in the lab, if necessary. Anything to keep her mind off of the dark haired, powerfully built male she'd met in the mountains, and how damn hard it was to be away from him.

Inside of the little brunette, however, a storm of emotion swelled and churned. It was absolutely crazy that she should be so torn up over having to walk away from Seth--they'd both known it was coming, had agreed it would be a physical thing. No attachments. Even so, it hadn't taken long for Nev to realize that things between them were getting far heavier than simple sex and good times...she'd begun to genuinely care about him just barely a week in. He'd been a strong and sweet constant in her life. Even when things with her brother's family and the Feds had finally come to a head, Seth had been there for her, a shoulder to lean on, to cry on--whatever she needed. She had so come to dread the day that she'd have to leave--this day--that she'd even arranged to have her car shipped home so that she would be able to spend a few more days with the small town sheriff.

She had come to care deeply about him, she supposed. Too deeply for the small amount of time she'd actually known him, actually. It was both frightening and sad at the same time--frightening, because it was so very new to her...and sad, because she'd have to time to explore it. It was time to go back to her home, to her life now, across the continent. Time to say goodbye. Nev took her bottom lip between her teeth, nibbling lightly to distract herself from the welling emotion that threatened to pool in her eyes. While she was quite sure that she could talk him into keeping this up...having rendezvous in various meeting points, sometimes in New York, sometimes back in Cascade---perhaps at 'halfway points'...she knew it was only a precursor to heartbreak. If she spent much more time with him...she knew she'd fall. And that just wasn't acceptable. They each had their own responsibilities, their own homes and lives. It just wouldn't work.

She pulled her gaze from the window, casting it towards the muscled male in the driver's seat. She let her eyes roam the handsome angles of his scruffy face, the beautiful blue of his eyes...that dark, unruly hair she loved so much. Oh, how she'd miss him. She reached for his hand, entwining her slender fingers with his calloused ones, a small smile curving her dusky rose-hued lips. If there was anything Nev was good at--it was hiding emotion. If she could keep him from seeing that a part of her was about to die a little in leaving him---she wouldn't be alright. She'd allow herself a tear or two on the plane, once out of his sight. Until then...she'd maintain her poker face. "Thank you for driving me to the airport, Seth." She said softly, truly grateful he'd been willing. It would be bittersweet, but she was glad for the extra time with him.

Touch me I'm cold
Unable to control
Touch me I'm golden
And wild as the wind blows
And tumbling tumbling
Don't go, fascination
If just for tonight darling,
