We dug a well about 5 years ago. Hit water at about 12 feet so it was relatively easy.

Here's a breakdown of my water bill for April (29 days)

Water charge - 20.10
Sewer maintenance fee 12.04
Service charge 2.00
Wastewater treatment 10.56
Storm water 6.22
Refuse disposal 9.21
Tax 6.03
Total 66.16

As you can see water is a small part of my bill. I wash once a week and we take a short shower each day and water for cooking (and the dog's drinking water of course). That's it. Welcome to Virginia.

Two years ago a new neighbor moved in a couple of doors down. Her son had recently been burned over 75% of his body (he was 13 at the time) and he was lucky to be alive. He had been on life support for months and was permamently trached. The only relief he had was from taking showers so he stayed in the shower for hours each day. Her first water bill was over $500. Her husband is in the Navy and was on deployment so between neighbors making donations and Navy Relief she was able to slowly pay the bill. The water company may have had sympathy but wouldn't budge on her bill. There has to be a better way.

Barbara
