BCR AOL Alumni Board

Welcome to the BCR AOL Alumni Board! This board is for BCR fans who originally met through the now defunct AOL BCR board to reconnect and keep in touch. Visitors and newcomers to the BCR online world are welcome as well. Not necessarily a place for BCR news, just a place for friends and online fans to connect, particularly those who remember the days of the AOL BCR Board, iMusic chats, Tartan Heaven and the very first Rollerfests!

Just to let our California friends know Vancouver Island/ British Colubia/Canada is sending one of the MARS MARTIAN water bombers down complete with crew. They leave in the morning and will be there by late afternoon. These babies can cover 4 acres of land in one drop of the water and gel solution they let go. You'll be able to recognize the plane because it's red and white , of course. They are amazing! Keep safe!

Subject: New BCR Fans MySpace site!

Author:
Connie
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 15:39:55 09/04/06 Mon

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've created a new MySpace page expressly for BCR Fans! It's a multi-purpose site: one, to give folks an easy way to sign up for the BCR Fan Database, two, a place where announcements can be posted regarding fan fests, upcoming
gigs, and any other BCR news that comes along (hint: subscribe to the blog to get these updates!) and three, a place for fans to find each other! It's still in it's embryonic stages tho - I need to pretty it up a bit!

Those of you already on my MySpace friends list should find an invite in your box soon! If not, please stop by the new site at http://www.myspace.com/baycityrollerfans and add "BCR Fans" as a friend! Don't forget to subscribe to the blog!

MySpace is a FREE site, and it's easy to register for a FREE account if you don't already have one. I've been a member since January and I haven't had any issues i.e. spam, etc. - so don't be afraid to sign up if you haven't already!! We've got a steadily growing group going on there!

Those of you on other sites/lists/message boards, please pass this around and let all the other fans know! I'll be counting on you guys as well to keep me informed about any new information (i.e. fan gatherings, gigs, etc.) that should be posted on the site! I've got a post up now with a bunch of the key BCR website/message board links - if you notice any key sites missing, please let me know!

Hopefully this will help us locate even more "new" fans in the online world!

Thanks!
-Connie

So I'm sure you've heard about the Fan Fest being planned in Edinburgh for 2007? Well...I can't believe I'm actually doing this (considering the scope of the project), but if Jan is brave enough to plan another Fan Fest, how can I possibly do less than...bring back the BCR Fan Database??? The database was a great way of getting to know other fans. . .and I know there are a ton of "new" folks who have joined the online BCR World in the past few years.

So...consider this an invitation to join the ALL NEW Bay City Rollers fan database! I will be posting this invitation anywhere and everywhere in BCR land....as well as e-mailing folks who were on the old database. Just warning you now! For those who aren't familiar with the BCR Fan Database, read on! ---

In 1996, I put together the first database of on-line BCR fans, in the "hopes of a possible Roller reunion, and also to give support to the members' various solo projects." As you may know, those hopes came to fruition in 1999 when the BCR did in fact reunite for some special projects, including new music, several TV specials, and a special concert appearance for the Millennium!

Since 1996, the on-line fans have been gathering in various places around the globe, to share some of our favorite memories of BCR fandom, and to make new friends and new memories with fans from all over the world!! We're looking to bring the fans together again in 2007, so I've decided to re-create the database (which has been dormant for a few years) to help folks get re-acquainted, and to learn more about some of the "newer fans" in the online BCR world.

Incidentally, a few years ago I substituted the full database for an abbreviated online version that just included names, e-mail addresses (embedded as a link in the names, so that the address doesn't show on the page), and city/state/country locations. That database is now
hopelessly out of date and will be taken down. However, I may decide to revitalize it at some point, and I have included a question below that will allow you to opt in or out of inclusion in the online version, should that happen.

So – if you would like to get in touch with other fans, re-connect with old pen-pals, or get updated information on the band's current activities, I invite you to be a part of our worldwide BCR fan database! The database is FREE to all fans who participate. For the safety of the fans, it is my policy to only give out the database to fans who are included on the database. If you would like to be included on the database and receive a copy, please fill out the info and return it to me at Cojehali@aol.com. If there's anything on the form that you prefer to keep private, that's fine, just include whatever you feel comfortable sharing with other fans! Once the database is complete, I will be sending you a copy via e-mail (Excel format). If you have any friends who are Roller fans that would like to be included, please pass this info along to them! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I hope to hear from you soon!

-Connie

I've buckled under pressure and agreed to do a fest next year. In Edinburgh - probably around 21st April.

UNTIL I get interest, and folks wanting to go I wont book anything, but there is a hotel awaiting our presence, and live music to book.

Seriously, it will be around £85 each for the entire weekend, plus your hotel costs (discounted of course, I was trained well) so, if you're at all interested in joining us - let me know!!!

Eric Faulkner
The Leader

Since our articles on Eric Faulkners recent gig in Puerto de Mazarron we have been inundated with people wanting to know more about the Tartan Terror with people emailing from as far away as Japan and the USA. We have been trying for the past week to find out where Eric is performing in Germany and will bring you the details as soon as we have them. In the meantime, check out our extra special Eric Faulkner page on our website with more pictures from the gig.

I saw your article on Eric Faulkner of the Bay City Rollers. How exciting that he's out on the stage again. Would love to purchase photos from that show. Were you there or anyone you know that would consider selling some copies of photos that were taken at that show? Would also love to purchase a video if anyone managed to camcord it. For my own personl collection of course.

Sincerely,
Connie Flores

I recently read your fabulous article about Bay City Rollers (The Tartan Terror) Eric Faulkner on your website. I've been a fan for years and my friends and I are very excited that you covered this story and were very excited that Eric has resurfaced after 10 plus years. What I was hoping you could clarify for my friends and I is, do you happen to know where Eric will be playing next and if you have a clearer picture of him.

The two we found on your website are nice, but theyre very blurry and we cant make them out so good! Were not all 13-14 years old anymore, ours eyes have gotten a bit old and out of focus!

We look forward to hopefully more articles by you and The Leader on the Bay City Rollers and other bands and would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read & respond to this email.

Warmest regards,
Cathy McConnachie

Hello. Im one of the biggest Japanese BCR fan running the Official Les McKeowns fan club RollerManiaks Japan.

Im very happy to see your news article about Eric Faulkner doing a gig in Spain. I never knew that BCR were also popular in Spain in 1970's?

Anyway, Im very happy for Eric still singing playing BCR on stage. Could you please give me more details about the gig? I would like to write this great information on our next newsletter.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Best regards,
Akemi

I read your post at the Internet and I would to like where Mr. Faulkner has his next gig in Germany?

Lovely greetings
S. Wenzlaff

By now you may have guessed your article has caused quite a stir in cyber Roller land. Just a couple of questions. Is there any way to purchase or view the photos you took of Eric? Also any clues about where in Germany he will be playing?

Thanks

Hi. I was wondering if I could get a clearer copy of the photo on the article. I am a big Eric fan from way back and just want it for my collection. Honestly, I don't sell photos on ebay or anything like that it is simply for me.

Secondly, do you know how to reach him? Grasping here but just wanted to see. I spent a week in the hospital last year with a heart condition and have been wanting to send him a letter thanking him for all the fun and memories he gave me.

Thanks for the article.

Another article from last summer on Eric:

ROLLERS ROLL INTO MAZARRON
Written by steve
Thursday, 16 June 2005

Eric Faulkner will be bringing the unforgetable music of the Bay City Rollers to the George and Dragon at Puerto de Mazarrón next week.

Eric was a member of the band right from its start on a council estate in Edinburgh, through the hits and the fan mania to the time they decided to take a rest in 1982.

But the music lives on and Eric looks back on those "crazy days" with great affection. Many of those fans who once waved their tartan scarves now live on the Costas and the gig next week should give them an opportunity to rock again to the tunes they know so well, such as Remember, Bye Bye Baby and Give a Little. Lee, of the George and Dragon, said there would be a prize for the best 1970s outfit and that the night would be one of music, music, music.

Eric was relaxed as he talked to us and recalled some of the highlights of those great days when the Bay City Rollers were phenomenally popular all over the world. They started, he said, as a bunch of lads who got together to make music and who loved having a good time. Heavily influenced by bands like Slade they took the music further and developed their own distinctive style. Before they knew it the rock and roll circus was under way and they were megastars. Concerts in the UK had to be surrounded by lines of police, thousands of fans fought for places and the hysteria became intense. Success in the United States saw the band playing at huge-capacity venues with equally fanatical fans.

Eric remembers these days but today he is looking forward. He is busy, as always, with his own recording studio, producing, and, perhaps most importantly, writing new songs.

The Rollers still get together occasionally and in 2002 they played before an audience of 100, 000 people at a Millennium concert in Edinburgh. It is performing before a live audience that remains one of Eric´s greatest pleasures, and he promises a "cracking night out" with his band at the George and Dragon on October 15.

Eric says that all the Bay City Rollers hits will be on the bill and a gold album will be raffled with proceeds going to charity. Also performing will be Blondlee, a tribute to Debbie Harry, Stateless Joe, a tribute to Status Quo, and Steve Tucker´s Seventies Disco. Tickets are 15 euros in advance from the George and Dragon, 968 153 616, Sporting Chance, La Pinilla, Camposol Sales at Camposol Computers and The Salon and Clinic. Admission on the night will be 20 euros. Coaches will be available to and from Camposol.

As much as I hate to "bump" that lovely photo of Johnny, here's some actual Roller news to chew on...courtesy of Ms. BaaBaa's sleuthing prowess:

FLOWER POWER LIVES ON

Written by Steve

Thursday, 13 October 2005

Kass is a lady who is loves the world of flower power and the hippies.

Give her tie-dies, headbands, swirling patterns and peace and love and she´s in paradise. Although she´s too young to have been a part of the original hippie scene, Kass, who now lives near Totana, says that she thinks the whole era was a magical time.

But she´s also very keen on music from other classic periods and runs an agency promoting all sorts of entertainment. When she was 19 years old, Kass was mad about pop and she met one of the biggest stars around, Eric Faulkner, of the Bay City Rollers.

The group was mobbed by tens of thousands of young fans wherever it went and its hits were the hymns of a generation. Kass is a singer and soon she found herself touring with Eric and other top musicians, performing to enthusiastic crowds. At the end of the Nineties, she decided on a change of career and opened a shop in trendy Camden Market where she specialised in her beloved retro vintage clothes and accessories. "It was great," she said. "I had my clothes and I was surrounded by musicians. We went out all the time, listening to new bands and hearing the latest music."

When she arrived in Murcia, Kass decided that this was the ideal spot to set up a booking agency. The Popshop has now carved a niche for itself, providing bands and acts to the many pubs, clubs and other venues that want something to get their customers moving. "We want to entertain people through music from favourite eras," said Kass, as she relaxed with a drink at Puerto de Mazarrón´s George and Dragon pub. "Our special themed nights travel the decades - the Fifties, Rock ´N Roll, the Swinging Sixties, the Seventies and Glam Rock.

These are the eras we all remember and love so much."Audiences are really encouraged to take part rather than just sitting and watching, and dressing in the fashion of the era is a must. There are prizes for the best costumes. Importantly, all the shows, which feature artistes from Spain and from the United Kingdom, are fully staged with professional sound and lights. Tomorrow night, Saturday, Eric Faulkner and friends will be bringing the great hits of the Bay City Rollers to the George and Dragon, and there will also be top tribute acts with the music of Blondie and Status Quo. Tickets 20 euros on the night, telephone 968 153 616 and coaches will run to and from Camposol.

Man...I found a link to what used to be the Colony Hotel (where Shang-A-Lang '99 was) today - it's now a U of T residence during the school months, and they hire out their rooms cheaply during the summer, but they also have all their function space still.

And it made me nostalgic so I pulled out the footage I have from SAL and gosh, it's amazing to watch that. It's amazing the people that were there and the things that we did...

...and now I'm missing everyone, and wondering how everyone is and wondering if folks are still chatting on AIM on Sundays and all the stuff you wonder about people you used to be in constant touch with...

So here's hoping you're all well (whether you went to SAL or not) and having wonderful lives after all that insanity...just know that whatever you're doing, this silly Canadian up here is thinking about you and wishing nothing but the best for you and yours!

If anyone's curious about what's going on with me, you're welcome to check out my Live Journal - http://rockgoddes.livejournal.com - and if you have one, I'd love to check out yours.

OK folks I decided to take a chance here - I have turned OFF the "moderation" button for this Forum. I know Voy has been working on getting rid of the spammers and I haven't seen any spam messages the last two times I came here to approve posts, so. . .keep your fingers crossed!! However, if anyone starts seeing those annoying spam messages on the board again, I'd appreciate someone dropping me a line at Cojehali@aol.com so that I can come clean them up!

Just so y'all know, I've been hanging out on MySpace.com these days, and there seems to be an ever-growing contingent of BCR fans finding their way there. We now have a BCR message board on MySpace, so please visit us there at http://groups.myspace.com/TartanFever

I posted something not long ago about hearing "Money Honey" on the radio. I don't think Connie has approved the message yet, but you won't believe what I heard today!! On a University of Michigan student-run radio station, they actually played---you won't believe this---"Eagle's Fly!" When I tuned it in, I couldn't believe my ears! I checked out their website and their playlist says that they played "The Way I Feel Tonight" a few minutes before that. Oh, and just for fun they played Scott Baio's "How Do You Talk to Girls." LOL

Hey there, don't know if anyone checks this board anymore. If so, I just wanted to tell you that I am once again the happy papa to another baby girl. Trixie Lu was born on March 21st at 12:20 p.m., weighing 8 lbs. 4 oz. and measuring 19.5 inches in length. She has since contracted a cold that her older sister had and is presently in the hospital with RSV, but she is making progress and we expect her to come home soon. We're extremely blessed to have two wonderful daughters. Despite the hard work, it's a lot of fun.

OK, everyone, I know this isn't BCR related, but it sure is Krofft related!

Does everyone remember Jack Wild, the little cutie that played Jimmy on HR Puff'N Stuff? Well, he contracted a nasty case of cancer and had to have his tongue and voicebox removed in an emergency surgery last summer. When I came across the article I was DEVASTATED! Artful Dodger Actor Jack Wild Dies at 53

LONDON (Mar. 2) - Actor Jack Wild, best known for playing the Artful Dodger as a teenager in the 1968 film "Oliver!," has died from cancer aged 53.

Nominated for an Oscar for that role aged just 16, he went on to star in the U.S. television series "H.R. Pufnstuf" and in several films before his career began to derail, in part because of excessive drinking from an early age.

"Jack died peacefully at midnight last night after a long battle with oral cancer," his agent Alex Jay said on Thursday.

"He always said he was an entertainer. He wanted 'The Entertainer' to be played at his funeral," Jay added, referring to the Scott Joplin tune used for the film "The Sting."

Wild, also a heavy smoker, was diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and underwent an operation in 2004 to remove part of his tongue and several vocal cords. As a result he lost his speech, but appeared on stage after the surgery miming his part in a pantomime.

Wild married his long-term partner Claire last year.

OK - this time I'm posting the reminder early! I'm doing some traveling for the holidays, so this will be the last chat "hosted" by me until January - although of course y'all are all welcome to continue to meet if you like!

If anyone tried to IM me to get into chat last week and I missed you, my apologies...I was having issues with my DSL and kept getting booted out of chat! Hopefully I'll be able to keep my seat this week...! ;oP

Date: Sunday, December 18th
Time: 6 PM PST/9 PM EST
Chat client: AOL/AIM
Chat room: Rollin

If you don't have AOL or AIM, go to www.aol.com, click on AIM and download the FREE chat software. Note: You are NOT downloading the AOL software when you do this, just the instant message/chat capability. Once you have chosen a FREE screen name and signed in, go to "actions" (a small drop-down menu) and choose "Buddy Chat". Type in your screen name and the chat room name "Rollin" (no quotes). If that doesn't work, send me an e-mail/IM at Cojehali and I'll send you an "invite". We are still testing out the AIM chat software so be patient...we may need to work out a few bugs!

Hope to see you there! :o)

Subject: Sunday BCR Chat Revival

Author:
Connie

Date Posted: 17:32:16 11/30/05 Wed

OK....I miss yakking with other BCR fans, so now that I'm more or less settled in Denver, I would like to go ahead and "test drive" the idea of reinstating the old Sunday night BCR chats. I know it's going to be difficult if not impossible to accommodate everyone....it seems there's always someone who can't access the chatroom, or for whom the date/time is inconvenient....which is why this is a "Test Drive"! We'll see how well it works and go from there.

Because the old AOL chat rooms were so convenient and easy to use, I'd like to try this out on AOL's AIM program. This is something that (theoretically) everyone should be able to access, particularly now that AOL has revamped and made a lot of it's content accessible for free. For those that don't already have AIM, here's what you do - go to www.aol.com and click on the AIM button. Download the FREE AIM software to your computer, and then choose a FREE screen name. Once you have done that, (or if you already have an AIM screen name and want to join the chat) e-mail me at Cojehali@aol.com and tell me what your AIM screen name is so that I can add you to the invite list, which will allow you to access the room.

In honor of the old AOL chats, the chat will be held on Sunday at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST - USA time. This first "test chat" will be this Sunday, December 4th. The name of the chat room is Rollin. You used to be able to access the chat rooms directly provided you had the name, but I confess I just downloaded the new version of AIM and I haven't figured out how to do that - although I suppose you could always just invite yourself! When the AIM panel opens on your computer, you will see three "buttons" that say IM, Talk, and Actions (which is a drop-down menu). Click on Actions, then on Buddy chat and fill in the name of the chat room. You may need to fill in your screen name as well. If you send me your name and I send you an invite, it should either bring you into the chat room directly or send you a link to connect.

I hope to see as many folks as possible join us!! I know we may have some "bugs" to work out but I'd really like to see these chats start happening on a semi-regular basis again. The BCR community is stretched way too thin these days and there are fewer gathering places for "all fans" to meet. So cross your fingers....and I hope to "see" you on Sunday!!

Well kids, it's hard to believe, but I'm a California girl no longer!! Yes, I've packed up the kits and kaboodles and am now residing in lovely Denver, Colorado. (Are there any BCR fans out in these parts?) So if you were wondering why I've been so scarce lately..it's been a heck of a year so far for me. After vigorously applying and interviewing for several different promotions this year (an exhausting process to say the least), the "right opportunity" finally came along - and I am now the new sales representative for the Universal Music Group in Colorado/Utah! I'll be spending my days hanging out in record stores and my nights hanging out at the music venues! Woo hoo!

I'm very excited about the new position, and being a "resident rep" (which means I get to work "from home" - yay!) but I've been positively crazed trying to find a place to live AND train my replacement AND learn a new job AND pack and move everything and truck it across country! In fact, we're still waiting for our furniture to be delivered - and our phone lines to be turned on! So things will be a bit chaotic for another week or so at least, but I'm hoping once I get settled in that I might actually be able to show my face around here a little more often (and, dare I say - plan the occasional BCR chat now and then?)

Of course I'm just a wee bit intimidated by the thought of living in a place where it SNOWS during the winter (gulp!) - guess I'll always be a California gal at heart! But the weather's been lovely so far - temps are still in the 80's here (which I have to say beats the foggy summer weather in SF by a mile) so I can't complain too much! Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know what's been keeping me busy...and I promise to check in more often now that at least 95% of the craziness is behind me! Hope everyone is doing well out there!

Good morning babies! I just got off the phone with Kenny. He is still at work but said that Michelle and Ginny evacuated to Florida, so they are okay. His wife and baby are still in Arkansas, but as soon as electricity is restored, they can come back home. It was a short phone call since phone service is sporadic and there are other officers that needed to call friends and family members. But I wanted to let you know that they are safe. : )

Will let you know when I hear more....

Smooches!

Hey, does anyone know if Michelle Guichard still lived in Metairie, LA (a New Orleans suburb) when Katrina hit? I think Metairie might be real close to where a levee broke. I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of whether or not Michelle was able to get out of town in time. She was the one who hosted our 1999 New Orleans fan gathering. If anyone knows anything, please e-mail me. I just want to know that she is okay.

Has anyone heard of this new MTV summer series?

<<<70's House: We take 12 modern kids and force them to live as though it were the 1970s. No cell phones, no iPods, no Britney! Only rotary phones, 8 tracks and Farrah. Will they be able to survive the groovy life? Find out in The 70s House.>>>

It sounds potentially groovy, but since I don't watch much MTV, I don't know how well they will do with it. I'll have to check it out and see, I guess. It could turn out to be bogus.

I have no idea how to make this BCR related, except to say that my memory of this book actually pre-dates my BCR years! I loved the book and original movie and was admittedly a little bit nervous about the "remake" (or "revisualization") - especially after hearing about the "changes" to the story, and seeing a pic of Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka interpretation. It's the kind of "weird" that could really go either way!

Now having seen the movie (twice!) I am happy to say that Tim Burton and crew did an absolutely wonderful job. The movie is very faithful to the book, the added backstory and slightly changed ending integrate with the overall story so well you'll wonder why they *weren't* part of the original. Depp is enchantingly bizarre and delightful to watch as always! Freddie Highmore makes a very endearing Charlie, and I especially enjoyed Missy Peel as Violet's mother. IMHO this movie will become every bit as much of a classic as the original. A definite two thumbs up from me!!

Would love to hear the opinions of anyone else who's seen it! :o)

I've had enough of letting the poker spammers run wild on my board. Especially as they seem to have scared folks off from posting! As much as I hate to do it, this board is now moderated. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I just don't know how else to keep this trash off the board. If we're lucky, the spammers will go away and then I can un-moderate the board once again.

Despite being moderated, this board is NOT censored, and I *will* approve all posts (unless they're, like, really REALLY offensive...but I know y'all would never do that...right?) ;o) It's just a question of how quickly I can get to the admin page to approve them. If you've posted something and it's taking longer than it should to show up on the board, just give me a poke via e-mail at Cojehali@aol.com.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, and also for all of the $&#*%&! spam that y'all have had to put up with lately. I hope you'll all come back out and play!

The spammers are driving me crazy!! They must have their little computers set to troll-and-post at least a couple of times a day...and I can't just sit here waiting for the pollution to spew so that I can clean it up. Unfortunately I sometimes get caught up in this distracting thing called "life" and forget to check the board and the next thing I know it's covered in litter.

My question: Should I change the settings to "moderated" to prevent those messages from showing up? My fear is that I might get distracted and inadvertently let someone else's posts go unposted for a day or two, which would suck. But I don't know any other way to keep the board clean, outside of what I'm doing now. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone,

We've been receiving emails asking if prospective fest attendees can show up June 17 and or June 18 and pay for fest then and get in. Please note, as of now, there is NO on site registration that hasn't already been prepaid. You MUST PRE-pay in full to attend Don't Let The Music Die. Payments are due by June 12th via PAYPAL and June 7th via snail mail. Payment is now, $110.00. Please see the link below:

http://www.geocities.com/tartantwins2005/

If, for some unforeseen reason, we do allow any payments at Fest, which as of this date, we doubt we will, the cost will be $130.00. Cash in hand. At that time, we can't guarantee you will have a seat at a table or dinner. If we allow anyone in at the last minute we can only guarantee that you can come in after all paid attendees have entered the room and you will be able to enjoy the entertainment only.

Please understand, we have to prepay any and all meals as well as the room. As much as we'd love to open the doors and say, come one, come all, we can't. This is the best we can do.

Roll on,

The Planners

Date Posted: 16:07:31 03/27/05 Sun

OK folks, a few of us have decided it's about time we had another Brit "Gathering of the Clans" because it's been way too long since the last one!!

Glasgow last weekend made quite a few of us realise just how much fun we have when we make the effort and get together with friends old and new. These friendships may have been started because of our shared love of anything BCR/Lesmac, but they go way beyond that now! Some folks reading this message will be fairly new to the on-line BCR/Lesmac scene, but many others go back forever (or that's how it seems!!)

A weekend of fun is proposed for Fri 7 April thru Sun 9 April 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland. We are currently discussing the arrangements with our preferred hotel and will confirm these as soon as possible, we will also confirm the price but anticipate it being in the region of £60 to include entertainment and evening meal on Saturday April 8, and possibly ice-breaker entertainment on friday April 7. We have lots of ideas and some surprises in mind so watch this space!!

Please note, this will be a general 70's event - although we fully expect any BCR/Lesmac representation to be prominent! There will be no guarantee of a Roller presence because the event is all about our friendships and having fun together. We will promise a great time with quality live music - and lots of it! We also intend supporting a local charity or two just like we did in 2000 when we raised almost £2000 for Radio Lollipop (Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Radio)!

If you joined us in Edinburgh in 2000, this event is for you by way of a reunion (coincidentally it will fall on exactly the same weekend as 2000!) If for some reason you didn't join us in 2000, I'm sure you will have heard all about the wild time we had then and will absolutely not want to miss out again? If you're new to on-line since 2000, take our advice and commit to joining us in 2006 for the party to end all parties!!

Hi, I was watching some old BCR TV appearances and noticed that in almost all of them they were lip synching when singing there songs. Has anyone else noticed this? Les made a comment in his book about one appearance, on the Mike Douglas show filmed at the beach, where the song, I think was Rock n' Roll Love Letter, started before Derek was even at his drums. Les didn't say why this was done. When this happens what does the live audience hear, do the BCR play at all? Or do they hear what we hear, the record.
Thank you,
Brad

AN EXCLUSIVE party will be held on January 12 in King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow to announce the ‘Best Scottish Band of all time’ following a three-month public vote by readers of The List and Scotland on Sunday. Before the winner is announced on the night, artists from the top 50 will exclusively perform some of their own material, and a series of Scottish covers to fit the occasion.

The List magazine published a guide to the ‘50 Best Scottish Bands of all Time’ in October, sponsored by Orange, and since then a text voting line has been open for the general public to vote for their favourite Scottish band.

Tickets for the party will only be available through Orange, The List, Radio 1 and Radio Scotland. Those keen to sample this unique music event should keep reading The List and Scotland on Sunday for more information in the New Year. Live material from the party will be broadcast by Vic Galloway on Radio 1 on January 13, from 7.30pm, and Radio Scotland on January 17, from 8pm.

In no particular order, the current frontrunners are: Idlewild; Big Country; Franz Ferdinand; Sensational Alex Harvey Band; Teenage Fanclub

The List’s top 50 suggestions are: Altered Images; Arab Strap; The Associates; Average White Band; Aztec Camera; Bay City Rollers; Belle & Sebastian; The Beta Band; Big Country; Bis; The Blue Nile; Boards of Canada; Bronski Beat; Cocteau Twins; Deacon Blue; The Delgados; Donovan; Eurythmics; The Exploited; The Fire Engines; Franz Ferdinand; Goodbye Mr McKenzie; Idlewild; The Incredible String Band; The Jesus And Mary Chain; Josef K; Lonnie Donegan; Love & Money; Lulu; John Martyn; Frankie Miller; Mogwai; Mull Historical Society; Nazareth; One Dove; Orange Juice; The Pastels; Primal Scream; The Proclaimers; The Sensational Alex Harvey Band; The Shamen; Simple Minds; Snow Patrol; Rod Stewart; Teenage Fanclub; Texas; Trashcan Sinatras; Travis; The Vaselines; Wet Wet Wet

I'm really bored right now so i thought i'd tell you guys about the fun time my best bud Deanna and i had last night seeing Cheap Trick at the house of blues here in Chicago cause i know a few of you are fans of the group and like i said before i'm bored *snort*.

Deanna picked me up after having about 1 hrs sleep sometime after noon ( she works the night shift and could not get fri night off), we drove to the hob as fast as possible, traffic was terrible downtown due to a parade that was happening near by, my girl D did me proud buy cutting off 5 cars in 3 mins to get us there *snort* we were worried that there was going to be a line of diehards already there because the weather was ok (in the 50's, no rain) and it was a sat so no one had to work but we were very surprised to see only 2 other fans there! They were shocked as well, they really thought some of us would of been there already when they arrived (they got there round 11:30, D and i got there at 1:30 for the 9pm show), it was a benefit for a children's charity run by Kerry Woods, one of are pitchers for the cubs and one of my faves on the team, i know your all thinking "they got there that early"? But trust me, for us die hard's that was a late start, usually some of us show up at shows as early as 8/9 am for a gen admission show, i know were nuts *snort*, i also could not believe how no one but the 4 of us were in line till almost 4pm, but the kewl thing about it was that we saw the guys as they entered the venue, first we saw Tom (bass player) and got a hello (we were sitting on the steps to the venue, they were roped off so the guys had to stand there for a few seconds before they could go in) next was Bun (the drummer) who gave us a hi girls then as a few more of are friends arrived in came Rick (lead guitar) and Robin (lead singer), when Rick saw us on the stairs he had a big grin and started saying "oh no" i shot back "shut it", we did that a few times while the gang laughed, i had my back to the guys so i didn't notice that Robin was standing right behind me *smacks myself on the head* just in time i turned, looked up and there he was giving us that smile of his, i also never even noticed Billy Corgin, lead singer of the smashing pumpkins walking by us, with a hat on and major stubble he was unrecognizable (the guy is from here and is a huge fan of the band, he loves them so much that at the height of his bands popularity his band opened for Cheap Trick, he never misses a CT show when they play here).
It was great we got to stand inside cause the wind picked up and it started getting cold, a few of us ladies decided to go eat at the resturant that is next to the venue (they do this thing that if you eat there you can get in a line that lets you in earlier then everybody else), we had the oddest waiter, he would talk in this weird slowed down voice that drove us nuts cause all we wanted to do was eat quick and get are receipts so we could get back in line *snort* after we ate ( i kept having flash backs of when i saw Duncan play there in the restaurant in 98, remember that Mary Fourtney? *snort*) we got back to the line to see a few more of are friends had arrived, they finally let us in and some how one of are buddies Dawn and Deanna (Tommy girls) ended up in front of Robin's area while myself and Dawn's friend Mary (were Robin girls) were in front of Tom's, we just laughed and said how "the hell did that happen?" *snort*
The set was one we've seen them do all year but there were some funny moments, here are a few;
Before the show Kerry Wood *drools* came out and talked for a bit then brought out Ryan Sandburg along with Mark Grace (i went nuts when i saw Mark, he was my fave player when he was with the cubs) alas i forget the other guys that were up there.
The guys came out and i saw that Robin's hair is getting long again and thank gawd he wasn't wearing the ugly hats and man bun he's been sporting lately (i looked at my fellow Robin girls and i could see it was very appreciated *snort*)
Billy Corgin did a few songs with the guys, first they did little child by the Beatles (never thought i ever hear those guys do that song but being an old Beatles fan i loved it), he sang lead on that and a song called heaven tonight, very nice! Between songs Billy joked about how happy he was to be with the 2nd best band from IL, the first being REO Speedwagon which got a lot of laughs from us and the band,
when Billy left the stage the guys got back at him for the reo comment by saying "what was his groups name, pumpkin something" then Rick said "what were some of their songs" to which Tom said "eye of the tiger" (reference to another IL band Survivor) which also got a lot of laughs.
Another funny moment was when Rick threw out his pick covered piece of cardboard during surrender (i can never remember what that thing is called) it landed in some decorative piece in front of the upper balcony, we all got a laugh out of that, somehow some guy managed to pry it out *snort*.
At one point during a song when Robin was right in front of D he rubbed his hand over his *ahem* groin area, i said to D "did he just do what i think he did"? Once again i looked at my fellow Robin girls, yeah that move was enjoyed by all *snort*.
Billy came back for the encore, and played a song called auf wiedersehen (a fave with us die hard's) with them
during it Rick and Billy were enjoying themselves, they even managed to play on Rick's little platform together and the ending went on forever, at one point Billy was on his back playing away, i think they stopped/started it like 4 times *snort*.
Even though like i said before it was the same set i've heard all year, watching Billy and Rick was a blast, they are just to damn cute together.
It was great to see all my fellow CT buds again, i just wish there was another show coming up round here *pouts*.

Well that's it, hope you enjoyed my rambling.

Former Bay City Rollers manager suffers stroke

FIONA MACGREGOR

CONTROVERSIAL pop impresario Tam Paton was last night in hospital after suffering a stroke.

The man who made millions as manager of 1970s Scots super band the Bay City Rollers was expected to remain in Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital for at least five days after the stroke, which has caused paralysis down his left side.

Paton’s long-term partner, Ray Cotter, said doctors expected his recovery to be slow.

Cotter, 43, blamed the stroke on stress over on-going court action. On his way to hospital, Cotter said, the 66-year-old had referred to the legal action and to allegations made last year that he had tried to rape former Rollers’ guitarist Pat McGlynn in the late 1970s.

Paton was taken into hospital by ambulance late on Friday night after taking ill at his Gogarburn home.

Paton was apparently referring to allegations made to police last year by McGlynn and former band mate Les McKeown, that he had attempted to rape McGlynn in a hotel.

Cotter added the former Bay City Rollers manager had been under immense stress recently. He has found himself embroiled in a legal row over the way the courts dealt with a fine he was given after admitting supplying cannabis earlier this year.

"He’s been left completely exhausted and I believe [the stroke] has been caused by stress," said Cotter.

Paton appeared at the Appeal Court in Edinburgh last week to hear the Crown appeal against the sentence he was given on April 30 when he was fined £200,000 after he pleaded guilty to two charges of supplying the drug.

Prosecutors say the sum he fined was "not inappropriate", but they claim, as a point of law, Paton should not have been ordered to pay the money before they had been given time to go through his financial records in search of possible profits from drug dealing.

During the original trial Paton, who has suffered two cardiac arrests in recent years, had to be taken to hospital by ambulance after collapsing in court due to his heart problems.

The son of a potato merchant, Paton, who was born in Prestonpans, acquired fame and fortune as manager of the Bay City Rollers during their heyday in the 1970s when the band sold 70 million records worldwide.

Gads!!! I really don't have anything to post about, other than I am just sick to death of seeing that same post as soon as I check out the board!

Anyone have any new Roller related news to report? Anything at all? The only thing I have is to say that my husband started a new job on Monday and he is back in Columbus for this job while the kids and I are in WV. He will commute on his days off. It's a bitch, but the job situation here in the Mountain State has gone from bad to REALLY bad and his job wasn't 100% secure due to cutbacks at the plants around here. But anyway, he moved last weekend and I drove up to help him get situated and so I broke out the tapes for my drive up and back. I listened to some BCR stuff that I hadn't heard in a while. Elevator, Live and Unreleased 1 and 3, and Strangers in the Wind. I love that album...not everything on it, but there are some really great songs on there. "When I Say I Love You" is one of my all time favorite BCR songs.

So, that's what's going on here - anyone else?
Smooches!
Julz

Allright girls...i need your help. This is not BCR related but i am desperately trying to find those plastic rings we all used in the 80's & 90's to tie our t-shirts with. Do any of you remember them? if so, do you know where i can find them or what the proper name for them was? Also, if any of y'all have some tucked away in a drawer somewhere, i am willing to buy them. Any help would be appreciated.

Luv on ya,

Linda

Even though it is the eve of her birthday, I regret to share that yesterday, Tami's beloved "Daddy" passed away after a long and heartbreaking illness. Tami was his primary caregiver and her strength throughout the past few years in extremely enviable to everyone close to her. It was only 1.5 years ago that we said goodbye to her Mother.

Please keep Tami and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Well, I'll give you a brief review that won't really capture the real atmosphere at Les' show in Alpharetta. My wife, daughter, and I arrived early Sunday evening and I immediately saw a few familiar faces after checking into the hotel. Joyce Haber was nice enough to be my personal informant about all things Roller while I tended to my parental responsibilities. Those responsibilities made it impossible for me to spend any time hanging with the fans, Les, and the rest of the band. Nevertheless, I managed to chat with a few of our fans by just passing through the hotel lobby. We checked out of the hotel on Monday morning and drove south to my best friend's house, dropped off Lydia and my wife there, and then my best friend and I headed back to Alpharetta to go to the concert. I noticed that the country was well represented, as always, with fans from states such as California, New York, Ohio, Minnesota, Kentucky, etc.. Les opened with Summerlove Sensation. Other songs included All of Me Loves All of You, Be My Baby, Give a Little Love, Killing the Blues, Daydream Believer, Dedication, I Only Want To Be With You, Money Honey, and Saturday Night. Though I don't dislike Daydream Believer, I couldn't help but wonder why he didn't just stick to the Roller formula and play something such as Rock and Roll Love Letter instead. Oh well, not my call. Nothing wrong with mixing things up. Just a personal wish. Stuck around long enough after the show to talk to some old and new Roller friends for a short while, and then my best friend and I headed back to his house to reunite with our respective families. Obviously, my tale lacks the enthusiasm that you would get from someone who managed to partake in all of the festivities, but I was still happy to be there. It had been a long time since I got to see any of the faces of Roller fans, so even limited exposure was satisfying to me. There are still a lot of you who weren't in Alpharetta whom I still miss quite a bit. Hopefully we'll cross paths again someday.

Well, I hadn't checked messages on here for awhile. I'm finding that our daughter keeps me pretty busy, which is pretty amazing since so much of her time is spent sleeping and crying. Anyway, thought I'd give y'all a shout out before I leave this Sunday to head to Atlanta to see Les' gig. It's a great excuse to go visit my best friend who lives down there. Plus, it's a fabulous opportunity to see how well Lydia travels on a long automobile trip. I'll let you know how it went when I get back.

Well HELLO everyone!! Long time no post/chat/or staying in the loop! I've been back in school the last couple of years and don't have a lot of time to stay caught up with ALL the boards anymore. I wanted to pop over here to see who is still around. It’s great to see all of you out there! I was glancing at the posts here and saw my name mentioned a couple of times. Brent, first congrats on your baby girl :-) Enjoy and cherish every moment you have with her, kids grow up so fast and before you know it they are moving out! I have a 21 year old, and an 18 year old. I can't believe how fast the time has passed! OH, and Brent. That joke I showed Sharon was not gross, it was funny (ok, well, maybe a little gross). BaaBaaLisa, you will be pleased to know that I do indeed still have all my wavs! Tartan Heaven is back in business?!?! I’ll have to pop over there after I finish this post. Caiti, congrats on graduating!! I still have 2 years to go, and am anxious to be done. What was your major? Have you found a job yet? Great “seeing” all of you again, I will try to pop in as often as class/homework/studying/research/etc.. will allow!
