He frowned when the young blue fox mentioned his honor. Heaven's goodness, he thought, why can't the parents see that their feud is crumpling over their own children?
"Then go" said the grizzled old male in a low bark "and keep faith to your word. I won't be the one to hold you back, but I won't even forget than in a way, because of you this one still lives" he nodded toward Branberry. "Sometimes sparing a life can be more useful than wasting one... you'll understand this, should you ever be sick-stricken as she is now, and spared by her relatives in exchange of what you did today. There's no honour in fighting those like you, son... and color aside, I daresay we all look pretty much alike, reds and blues."
He never moved his eyes off the retreating brothers, but before they vanished, he couldn't help calling after them: "Wait. You mentioned your... father's side. Many days have passed since I last heard news about the blue foxes from my home outside the park. Who leads you now?"
He didn't know why he had asked that question. Something familiar about the two young foxes just irked him. Because now that he looked them more closely, they both looked a lot like...
