“Pleased to meet you, Lord Ry,” jested Lenariah. With a jovial grin and the airs of a pompous noble, she bowed to the canine while attempting to maintain her balance. The dog barked amiably at the new acquaintance, as she extended a hand to pet his soft coat.
“What a magnificent animal you have here,” the enchantress admired, this time directed at the human rather than at Ry. “I always wished to have a dog, but my parents insisted that they were only suitable for hunters. Seeing as I possess no great hunting skills, they gave me a pet bird instead. Rather useless they are, caged birds. They can warble and chortle all day long, but their lives serve no purpose. Not like dogs; they can be true comrades.” She stroked Ry’s neck with her outstretched hands.

The two ladies instructed their horses to continue forward, and Lenariah hardly had any trouble getting the steed to move this time. The enchantress gazed at the soldiers in front of her, still finding it rather difficult to believe that she had been able to save so many of them. She had worked simple charms often before, but never such an impressive task as the healing.

Changing her view to Celefe beside her, she spoke softly. “I want to express how appreciative I am that fate had caused our paths to meet. If you have ever been alone for a long period of time, you will have experienced the anguish of solitude. I have the feeling that we will have a strong bond between us. Your life force is one of the most powerful that I’ve seen.”
