I think that some of those scenes were 'nuggets'. That is, they were the only scenes the writers were 'giving' us about Michael and Nikita's relationship. Little nuggets to keep us enthralled.

Plus, many of the scenes were damn hot! I read about the hand dance before I saw it and I was wondering what the big fuss was about. Then I saw it and, well, yeah. It was hot and sexy. Who would have thought framing in on two hands could be so riveting? But at the time, no one else in television was giving us such scenes. They do now, mind you. But LFN was really groundbreaking in a lot of ways and scenes like that were one of them. (er, at least I think it was groundbreaking. I don't recall seeing other tv shows filmed exactly the same way. It was all NYPD Blue/Moving Seasickness Camera Angles when LFN was airing).

These 'repetitive' scenes are mostly lovely blends of music and tv that capture the imagination and linger in our minds.
