The enchantress paused at this inquiry, a flood of memories pouring into her mind.

“It is odd that you should ask for such,” Lenariah stated with a grin. “Ivaleor was always a rather segregated kingdom. The aristocracy lived away from the water, for they feared the treacherous storms of the sea. Thus, the peasants, fishermen, and artisans resided immediately on the shores. It was there that the creativity and life of Ivaleor thrived. Many philosophers and musicians were inspired by the volatility of Pelamous’s waves.

My family forbade me to visit the shores. We were wealthy, and they believed that the strange ideologies and songs of the peasants would spoil my mind. But the sea called to me. It beckoned me to dance in its waters, to sing in its waves. Therefore, I would creep out of my bedchamber and run to the shore under the blanket of night. A gypsy woman, who was reaching the end of her life, saw me wandering among the waves each night. She told me that if I was interested, she would teach me the secrets of the sea.

I was completely enraptured by her mystical ways. She was the one who forged my instrument and taught me how to utilize my healing powers. She told me how to clam the waves with songs. There were so many tunes; I can scarcely remember the lyrics. One of the enchantments has dwelled in my soul since first I heard it.”

Lenariah closed her eyes and softly began to sing a haunting melody. The notes were brief, yet they echoed, suspended in the air, long after the singer had finished.

I am lost in the waves
The ocean is me
As I cease to exist
And am one with the sea

There is nothing between
The water, the sand
The reflection of Moon
And the place where I stand

Arise, sleeping waters
Break your reverie
As I cease to exist
And am one with the sea
