(ooc: *headdesk* Ack, I'm running out of ideas for this thread. xD do you have any? o.o' or we could just go with the flow and see what happens?)

The waitress made a scribbling motion on her notepad as she took their orders, placed her pen behind her ear when she'd finished and, still carrying that obscenely cheerful smile, turned around and hurried off to the kitchen.

"Please don't worry about paying. If it really bothers you that much, you can pay the next time we go out. That is if you want to go out again."

Man, did he feel like a retard now. Was he that obvious to read? "Sorry, I'm an idiot when I'm tired." He said lamely with a small laugh, running his hands over his face and through his scruffy black hair. "I'll take you up on that suggestion, though." Secretely he was thrilled that the thought had even crossed her mind because, well, it sure as heck had crossed his. His brain was just working slowly at the moment so she got there first. "The next time I need aspirin." he joked. Speaking of, he remembered the two tablets lying dorment in his pocket. He took them out, looking at them for a moment lying quite still and uninterestingly in the palm of his hand, before throwing his head back and dropping them into the back of his throat, swallowing.

"Your orders. Two coffees?"

He looked up as the waitress returned with two rather large mugs of coffee, neatly placing them on the table before returning back to the front of the cafe to talk to another waitress, leaning idly against the counter. "Thank god. I could kill for one of these." he murmured quietly, cupping both hands around his mug and pulling it towards him. He heard the front door to the cafe open and from the corner of his good eye saw three surly-looking men come in, sitting down grumpily at an empty table. For a while they continued to sit and glower at everyone, until one of them started talking, and before long they were also occupied with their own conversation. "Man, why's everybody coming now that we're here looking for quiet?" he said, holding the mug of coffee to his mouth and taking a gulp. "Mind you, that's probably what the others are thinking too."

Max stared down at his mug of coffee, pondering over what to say. He looked up at Midori again, his gaze tracing the delicate outlines of her face. "Do you live here in Cascade, or just come in for work?" How boring. Surely he could've thought of something slightly more interesting? When he was properly awake then maybe, but only now that he was sitting did he realize how exhausted he was, and, well, unfortunately for him he wasn't that good at hiding emotions. Best keep that coffee coming, then, he thought, taking another gulp.
