Subject: Advancing the mark 10 metres is STILL a waste a time (Take 2)

About 18 months ago their was a thread on this forum that discussed how advancing the mark 10 metres for back chat was not a real deterrent to players.

Interestingly enough I see nothing has changed since that original suggestion was made and I still our referees are wasting their time advancing the mark only 10 metres.

In the two rounds of footy so far played this season I have seen on the telly TWO incidents where the ref has marched a player 10 metres only for the player in question to just laugh at the ref as he jogged back the extra 10 ! the players simply dont take being marched 10 metres seriously. Never have, Never will.

It's time to give our officials more power over back-chat and allow them to advance the mark a MEANINGFUL distance that will be a REAL deterrent instead of the nonscence thats dished out at present.

If a 50 metre advancing of the mark is good enough for the AFL then surely we need to re-address the fact that a 10 metre advancement of the mark in Rugby League is just a joke.

If players knew that a gobful to the ref would mean that the penalty would be 20 , 30 , 40 metres further downfield instead of 10 metres then I would guarantee that would cut chat back by significant levels

Clearly the 16 NRL coaches are too gutless to bring in a rule change that benefits the referees rather than the players.

Sigh.
