She took the handkerchief without even brushing his fingertips. He glanced away politely as she wiped her lips clean. As she glanced back, she was advancing. His body, despite his efforts, tensed as she moved. He could see the uneasy movement and felt the wave of embarrassment wash over her. It was either that vulnerability that made him smile or the closeness of her skin as she tucked the blood stained handkerchief back into his pants pocket. Women were most seductive when they didn’t put in the effort. He watched silently as the pale skin stretch over the lean muscles in her forearms. He could see the bluish veins just under the surface. The human body was such a miraculous construction. His eyes flashed with the faintest of excitements as she accepted his offer. He let out the breath he’d be absentmindedly holding and his smile spread across thinner lips. He was lost for words but let the silence hang as if planned. He moved slowly past her hoping she’d fall into step with him as he passed. The mouth of the alley yawned to expel him and he turned right up the street. The faint purple neon sign shone like a beacon for drunks on main street and was only a block north from where they were now. The pace he set was brisk and before long, his fingertips curled around the curved brass door handle. He tugged it open and stood aside to allow his date entrance. |
