Max slipped inside after her, letting the door slowly swing shut by itself behind him, and followed Midori to the back of the cafe away from where everybody else was sitting. He pulled a chair out from the table and moved it to the side so that his back was towards the window, just so he wouldn't be sitting directly in front of Midori and obscure her view of the cafe. Max flopped down onto the chair tiredly and leaned forward with his arms on the table, though had probably moved a bit too quickly as a sudden small spasm of pain rang through his midriff. He swore quietly under his breath, his body tensing, though relaxed again after few seconds. Maybe he'd fractured something last night at the pub after all. Why was he only noticing it now, though?

Max managed to get a waitress's attention and she swiftly made her way over to them with her small notepad and pen in her hand, smiling cheerfully at them. For a split second her smile faltered as she caught sight of the dark blotch around Max's eye, but she recovered herself pretty well and asked to take their orders. He was a bit hesitant at first; he still didn't like the idea of not being able to pay, but there wasn't much he could do about it now. "Uh- coffee." he said bluntly, then his gaze shifted over to Midori.
