Rocket turned at once toward the young blue fox. He had been silent ever since and perhaps this was what deceived the old male into believing he could have persuaded him already. His fur bristled at the other's chuckle.
"No, not help a red" he scowled. "Help another fox. Or does the color make her another animal at your eyes? I see a muzzle like yours, ears like yours and a tail like yours."
He was secretely a bit disappointed that this youngster was already into the war thing. True to be told, he didn't look like a cub, but he could have been Rocket's great-grandson and the younger male (so was it his brother?), his great-great-grandson. Rocket had hoped some of the adults had not forget his teachings after his flight, but obviously he had underestimated ScarFace. Yes, ScarFace... he wondered how the old fella was doing. If he still lived, of course. Would he listen to Rocket's words, or would he turn off once again?
He was dragged back down to earth by Bounder's voice.
"Side with your father?" he growled low "I don't believe the slightest in this side-against-side stuff. We are all of one kind, so where's the point in siding against each other? If their color annoys you so much, try to think that they are just sunburst."
Although gruff as ever, his voice had been polite enough all the time, and less aggressive than it sounded when he first tried to divide them. But when the young fox started whispering in his ear, this irritated the crap out of Rocket. He couldn't hear well with age. Or maybe because of his dandling eartip. Anyway, he didn't like people whispering around him. His growl grew twice its original sound and for a moment it assumed a menacing streak. But his temper soon fell, realizing that these foxes didn't know (and how could they?) about his slight deafness.
"Don't whisper with me, lad, talk out and loud" he snarled. "I don't like that."
He was interrupted, however, when Bounder adressed Traveller roughly. Rocket rolled his eyes. Youngsters, he thought. Just couldn't take their minds off fighting. Were they all like that? Now he even had to save their hides before someone got injured, which would only make the elders from both sides firmer in their beliefs. He bolted between them once again and snapped his fangs at Bounder, yet eyeing Traveller with the corner of his eyes, ready to hold him back if he too had tried to attack. He stood over the young blue fox and bared his canines once again like he had done with Dreamer. "I said n-o-n-e of us will hurt anyone as long as there's a sick vixen to mend." he spat, even more slowly than before. Yet his voice wasn't near as dangerous as it had sounded when Bounder whispered. "I won't tolerate any verbal attack either that may spark up a fight. If you want to fight, if he wants to fight, that's fine with me. Get away and insult each other somewhere else. We have stuff to do." his eyes were focussed on Bounder. From the way he spoke, he had already understood the young fox was certainly brave and proud of himself. Well, he could use that at his advantage. "Very important stuff to do. But I won't force any of you to do it if you don't feel able even to carry an half-dead vixen away from here."
