Subject: Board vs. Chatroom

Speaking of board formats, I can see how a sequentially structured board (e.g., InvisionFree's format) is much more beneficial to discussions, while a tiered format (i.e., that of newsgroups, which existed before web boards were invented) is more conducive to organized presentation of information.

What I've seen in the last board (i.e., InvisionFree) is a combination of presented information (with comments) and, in other threads, fruitful discussion that usually ends with some resolution to the question or topic. Ideally, a web site would provide the location for presenting information, but the board has been a replacement since the site's closure.

So I'll pose this question for discussion, with possible resolutions offered from the perspective of several different scenarios:

Would a chatroom be better for GAFF discussions, or would you still like to use a board for such discussions?

1. No Site

-1a. Chatroom AND board:
--1aa. Chatroom (for discussion) AND tiered board.
--1ab. Chatroom (for discussion) AND sequential board.

-1b. Board only:
--1ba. Tiered board only.
--1bb. Sequential board only.
--1bc. Tiered AND sequential boards: tiered for information and resolutions, sequential for discussions (to reach resolutions).

2. Site In Use

-2a. Chatroom only (for discussion): resolutions to be submitted for posting on the site.

-2b. Chatroom AND board: board will only contain resolutions to discussion, for the site will present main information.
--2ba. Chatroom (for discussion) AND tiered board.
--2bb. Chatroom (for discussion) AND sequential board.

-2c. Board only: all discussion and resolution-posting takes place here.
--2ca. Tiered board only.
--2cb. Sequential board only.
--2cc. Tiered AND sequential boards: tiered for information and resolutions, sequential for discussions (to reach resolutions).

Since the ultimate goal of GAFF is to get a full web site in working order again, I feel we should bear that in mind and plan ahead when looking for a new home.

What do you guys think? If you require any clarifications, please do let me know!
