Rocket turned his head a little when the sick vixen managed to stand up on shaky legs. He was secretely impressed by the force of these females... in a way they reminded him of his own daughter, Tawny. Mysterious, his mate, had been somehow softer, and the thought of her was still painful to the old fox. But over the years he had learnt to go on and now his life had a new purpose, helping his kind out of their misery - if he could do it at all.
When she growled against her son, however, Rocket frowned, because he could understand the youngster's worries and he didn't see why she wouldn't want him there. But maybe she had given up hopes herself, and believed she had no more chances to survive. Well, it wasn't entirely sure. Rocket himself had got sick more than once in his long life, and he had always made it through. Now if only these red foxes would be just as strong...
"Let it be, redhead" he adviced, tapping her shoulder with his nose. "You aren't at your best, this you can see yourself, and you won't be going anywhere like that. Think you can walk a few? This isn't the best of places to lay down"
The old fox snorted, then turned around and studied each of the gathered animals' features. Finally, he nodded toward the adult red male... he who looked older than the others and was watched with respect by the young red vixen. He wondered if he might be her mate, but soon decided there was a quite notable age gap between them. Her father, most likely, or another relative.
"You" he barked, "red fox. Please, I'd need your aid. I think, if she" he nodded toward Branberry "leans on our shoulders, we might be able to take her to a cleaner spot." Rocket stood silent for a while, then turned and adressed Bounder with the same voice. "And you too, youngster. You look big enough to carry her weight if she has troubles walking. Come on, if I remember it right, there should be a safe place not too far from here."
