Rocket's head snapped at the young vixen's insolence. The grizzled old male stared at Dreamer straight in the eyes, with all his proverbial charisma plus something else. Something very close not to anger, as she would have expected, but rather to annoyance. He wasn't afraid. In his long life, he had never been the first to look away in staring contests, and he wasn't going to start now. Slowly, deliberately, he curled his lips upwards to showcase his canines, like he had done with the young blue cub earlier on.
"You will listen to me, if you care for your precious mate's mother as much as you pretend" he snarled. "All I asked you was to help get her out of here. Fighting won't do her any good, she doesn't look in a good shape already and it will get worse if we don't take her away from there soon."
With the corner of his eye he was studying the young male she had said was the vixen's son. He wondered why he had not run to help his mother already, but maybe he had just been caught in the middle of a blue-red rift. Rocket knew better. But he could also feel that the young vixen who had adressed him that boldly was scared in her own ways, and maybe what she had said was true, maybe those two blue foxes were really after her mother-in-law's hide.
"Don't worry, none of us will raise a paw on anyone as long as there's a wounded fox to mend" said Rocket, his voice a bit softer now. But in saying so, he also walked to put himself between Dreamer and Bounder, so they couldn't reach each other without sneaking beside him. Once again, he flashed both youngsters a severe stare. "None of us, I said. You want to fight? There'll be time later for that, if you will still feel like. Now, first and foremost, let's just get her out here."
