The enchantress cautiously drew closer towards the limp figure that was held in the trembling arms of the man who had spoken to her. The anguish and pain that was emitted from the injured body called to her, begging for her power. Tears welling in his eyes, the man gently laid the person down and stood up. When the lady gazed upon the damaged face, she shuddered in pity. She could tell that the wounded creature had once been an attractive young woman, despite her currently revolting appearance.

Questions raced through her mind. She wondered why these strong people had allowed such destruction to befall on one so young. Scarlet blood dripped down her brow, covering the dented breastplate. Meanwhile, the crowd stood with untouched armor and flawless complexions. It seemed impossible that this girl had been the only fighter in a battle, while the rest of them had simply watched from the forest.

No, I must clear these inquiries from my mind, the lady thought. She still possesses a weak light. I can save her if I work swiftly.

The lady’s delicate fingers reached into her pouch and grasped the lute. The spectators silently pleaded that this mysterious woman would be able to salvage the precious life of the one who they loved so dearly. Whispering a quiet prayer that she had not missed the opportunity, she raised the instrument to her mouth. Inhaling deeply, she began to play a solemn, driving song.

The crowd was motionless with anticipation. The musician poured all of her energy, all of her spirit, into the notes. Her wide eyes focused unblinkingly on the closed lids of the wounded lady in front of her. She begged the frail life force to sustain itself, begged the soul to rejuvenate.

A surge of amethyst light around the enchantress temporarily blinded the onlookers. Her magic was in full intensity, awakened by the music.

Silver strands of radiance shot out from the end of the lute and pierced through the lady’s armor. They traveled into the torn flesh and pierced the stopped heart. With the sustained final note, the power gripped the spirit of the lady.

The crowd watched in awe as their comrade’s scars evaporated. Slowly, her eyes opened and she lifted her head from the cold ground.
