The knot in his stomach untied itself when she smiled and took a cigarette. He returned the packet and took out his lighter, holding it in front of her cigarette. He rolled the little wheel back with his thumb until a small thin flame flicked out and caught the end of the cigarette, and then he dropped the lighter back into his pocket.

Nothing? Normally black eyes prove to be a little bit more than nothing Max.

"You're a persistent one, ain't ya?" Max laughed. "I'll give ya a censored version, in case a little kid walks past; slight misunderstanding at the pub. No big deal." That was as far as he was going to go, his ego wouldn't allow any further details. Anyway, to him it was no real issue- maybe a cracked rib or two and a blue eye for a couple of days. Sure it was nice and all, having a lovely young woman being all concerned for him and everything, but really he'd been worse off before. Max could sense a bit of tension or anxiety as he asked her about her occupation, he was good at picking up vibes from people, reading body language, etc. It was probably the "wolf in him".

Okay, don't freak out... alright? Um, I'm actually... well... a cop of sorts. Not like a narcotics cop, or patrolman either. More like an.... agent.

Max tilted his head to the side as he listened to her speak, curious. Don't freak out? Why would he? If she'd said "i'm here to kill everything strange" or something along those lines then he'd have been a bit worried. Mind you, she hadn't specified what kind of... 'agent'. And then the voice at the back of his head would keep asking what he was so anxious about. Shapeshifting was the least, well, 'extreme' of the species he'd come across before. He didn't suck people's blood out of their necks or turn into a beast every full moon. All he could really do was, well, turn into a wolf if he really wished to do so. A bit boring for him, really.

"So... not a narcotics cop? Oh good, I guess that lets me off the hook then." He joked, laughing. All right, so he wasn't joking entirely, he did occasionally do a bit of dealing if he needed money (nowadays he'd be up for anything to get by), but it wasn't as if he was operating his own drug cartel here or anything. And at least he'd made it sound like a joke. "Ooh, you've got me interested." he said with a grin, leaning his back against a lamp post and folding his arms across his stomach. "What kind of... agent?"
