Amidst the shadows cast by the ancient lords of the forest stood a concealed figure, miniscule in comparison to the grandeur of the mighty trees about her. In a glade, walled by a ring of moss and flowering forsythia, the young being removed her lavendar raiment, which in turn exposed the elegant sweep of her long, azure gown. Gently, she brushed a free lock of wavy almond hair out of her slightly brazen face. From a delicate embroidered poach which hung at her petite waist she drew forth a lute of fine craftsmanship. The instrument itself appeared to be smaller and more dainty than others of its kind, with its intricate patterns like fine lace whittled into the red oaken body. However, in the hands of its mistress the lute seemed to be a perfect fit.

The elegant lady softly removed her hands from their silver satin gloves and laid them upon a sunlit rock. She gazed upwards, through the narrow slits of sky between the summer foliage, and focused unblinking violet eyes on the blazing noon orb. Then, lifting a hand above her head, fingers splayed, she beckoned the sun's energy, willing it to become a glowing sphere in her upraised palm. Gradually, the circular mass of power between her fingers began to gleam a magnificent shade of amethyst. Slowly, she brought the light to rest before her eyes and left it suspended in midair. With both hands free, she grasped her lute and brought it to touch her full rose lips. Directing all of her strength on the floating ball of energy, she commenced a mystical tune. Notes soared like the peaks of high mountains, and delved deep underground into the arroyos beneath the earth.

At first, there appeared to be no change in the sphere of purple light. But as the tune progressed, it seemed that the energy condensed and became more solid. Once the final note had been sounded, no illuminance floated before her cerulean eyes. In its place gently hovered a butterfly, the rays of sun reflecting off its wings in a thousand shades of indigo. A smile formed on the lady's face, pleased with the brilliant result of her playing.

Her reverence for the creature was interrupted in a heartbeat, for a terrible cry of anguish came from piercing from the west edge of the forest. Curious in her lack of attention, the butterfly had fluttered away, its hue blending in with the shades of the forest. The lady hastily gathered her belongings and headed off in the direction of the sorrowful noise's origin.
