Subject: hum... i don't understand the point here
In reply to: Chris 's message, "The UBF favorite hymn" on 05:43:13 04/07/05 Thu

hi,
while reading the posts to this topics i don't really understand what the problem is.
sure, many ubf chapters (or all of them, i don't know) sing this hymn every sunday. so do we almost everytime (not always). but what's wrong about that? i think, if you try it THAT hard you can find "bad" and "manipulating" and "evil" points in ubf everywhere you want. but especially in this point i don't understand what the problem is.
i think there's nothing bad in it the same way there's nothing especially good in it.

"UBF is the only place where I ever experienced people singing the Our Father instead of praying it"
that's not completely true, i attended worship services in korea where they acually PRAYED it. and there's nothing evil in singing it either.

in another post here someone said: "the leaders will manipulate the sheep by using singsperation and other opportunities to perform music as a carrot. For example, the sheep will have to come to the worship service every Sunday, go fishing at least once or twice per week, feed sheep, and write testimonies in order to perform with the singsperation team."
that's just rubbish, sorry. ok, i only can speak for my own chapter, but such things NEVER happened here. i don't know if you believe me. but especially we as "2nd gens" enjoy singing and worshipping - no matter whether it's ccm or traditional hymns. sure, for younger service attendants ccm songs are quite more interesting but that's not the main important point for a sunday worship service, right? we don't prepare songs just because someone tells us and we obey. nobody controls our choir practices and nobody tells us which songs to sing and nobody disturbs our performances by telling what to do and what not to do. we just want to enjoy God and actually, we really want to create a "good atmosphere" for the worship service (though there may be people here who doubt that) and there's nobody here standing in our way. is there anything bad about it? i doubt it...

also, to argue about the time ubf worship services are held at... this is a bit "over-the-top", don't you think?
and to the point regarding "individuality and independence from chicago": what's the point about that?!? imagine, there are many ubf chapters in the world, and every chapter wants to celebrate a worship service every sunday. so the easiest thing is to orient towards the so-called "main center" and to set it on 3pm or 11am. what would be the point about standing on having every worship service in the world at different hours just out of "individuality"? please explain, i don't understand...

so please, don't generalize EVERY TINY LITTLE thing that pops up into your head. i don't mean it personally and i also don't want to attack anyone personally. so, if you want, let's discuss it objectively. (my english isn't perfect, sorry). and again: i only can speak for my own chapter.
and for your pleasure i also signed with my actual name. =) chris knows me.
