Here is the Hogalum site I've been working on. I've made some refinements on Satyros & Mentiac's characters. I'll start looking over Valkusian's bio as well, then focus on the story itself. I've been sending drafts of bios to Ken in order to get his feedback as I want the bios to be consistent with both websites. So when Ken and I feel comfortable with a given bio then thats the one we go with.

So here is the site as it stands:

Jeff, you might want to check your graphics out first; they appear to be displaying at random... Let me know if you need help.

Sorry I haven't been real helpful in that regard. I have been promising a Satyros bio on my page for months now... guess I'll have to get busy.

Don't you get free web space from Prodigy? The Geocities pop-ups appear to be throwing errors.

Also, I love the Luftigel graphic on the home page, but it could probably stand to be compressed a bit. Again, let me know what help you want, and we'll get the nuts-and-bolts snags ironed out. First chapter is a good start!

What the fuck?!! It all seemed to be ok the first couple times I checked, but I saw the graphic wack job. Damn it...I could use the help but I sure as hell don't know what to do.

I do have one...but I lost my FTP transfer software. I did pick up coffee FTP direct..but it keeps asking for host name and address....I don' fucking know...as I tried to get a new FTP file manager I ended up getting sent to Geocities and I decided to just get it up.

I'd rather have something easy to just download and be done with it. Its hard enough to write out the material let alone work the tech bugs out. So I could use all kinds of help. I don't even know where to start.

Whaaaaaawahhaaaaaaaa

Part of your problem is using Microsoft Publisher. Despite the name, it's a bitch to use.

Tell ya what: Find out what your hostname, address and password are (Hostname is probably something like ftp-www.prodigy.net, address is probably something like ~jnerone, and password is probably the same as your sign-on password) or find your Prodigy FTP app, and I'll try to take a look at your code. Coffee should work fine for file transfer, but Prodigy's ftp app should be incredibly simple to use if you can find it. Try searching in their Members area for more help.

I am sure I can fix your code, remove all of the Microsludge, and maybe set it up more like a simple template so you can edit in Notepad. Or you might try FrontPage Express if it's lurking on your machine someplace.

If you want to stick with Geocities, I think Curt will be your best resource, as he has used them in the past.

p.s. don't post your passwords and stuff here, just in case

YES!!!....thanks it worked!! I had tried address but kept getting a winsock error. It was the hostname part that I was fucking up.
Guys forget the geocities site. I'm going back to my original site: http://pages.prodigy.net/jnerone/

I noticed an odd code writing showing up at the top of the chapter page. I tried reloading the page then refreshing but it still shows up. Anyway, I also changed the 'recent chapter' page and the rewrote the first chapter.

Rather then just write it as a story, I wish I could come up with something different. Not to copy Ken's journal entries, which is really good, and adds to the fantasy of being decoded still. Other then the first person approach which I don't want to do, its not like the guys had a personal secretary to write down all the adventures, so I am a loss.

Oh well. Thanks Web Fairy....thank you! I heard from Ken any other FEEDBACK would be appreciated.

More then likely I'll be spending Thanksgiving alone but I hope the rest of you spend the time with much family and friends close by. Tomorrow will also be my five year anniversary of being committ...I mean, anniversary of being admitted into Milwaukee Psyche. for clinical depression. Wow, so much has happened and I've grown so much in insight, wisdom and empowerment.

Thanks men for being my friends, all these many years. Even when I get frustrated or bossy or tempermental, I do remain blessed to be in touch with you all even though its not as often as I want it to be. I am thankful for the advice and the wisdom, the sarcasm, the tomfoolery and the love and MOST IMPORTANT, the acceptance of me so I feel safe to BE me.

Just a little bit of Rumi for the Holiday:

Stay together, friends
Don’t scatter and sleep

Our friendship is made

Indeed. You're still a whack job, but at least you're not depressed!

Okay, I take back the whack job part. And I, too, am thankful for our unusual friendship, its highs and lows. I wish we could all spend more time together as well. I'd be a better person for the time well-spent.

That's nice, but how about a little Thanksgiving prayer from your pal, William S. Burroughs, that smirking old beatnik bastard:

A Thanksgiving Prayer
by William S. Burroughs

Thanks for the wild turkey and the passenger pigeons, destined to be shit out through wholesome American guts.

Thanks for a continent to despoil and poison.

Thanks for Indians to provide a modicum of challenge and danger.

Thanks for vast herds of bison to kill and skin leaving the carcasses to rot.

Thanks for bounties on wolves and coyotes.

Thanks for the American dream, to vulgarize and to falsify until the bare lies shine through.

Thanks for the KKK.

For nigger-killin' lawmen, feelin' their notches.

For decent church-goin' women, with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces.

Thanks for "Kill a Queer for Christ" stickers.

Thanks for laboratory AIDS.

Thanks for Prohibition and the war against drugs.

Thanks for a country where nobody's allowed to mind their own business.

Thanks for a nation of finks.

Yes, thanks for all the memories -- all right let's see your arms!

You always were a headache and you always were a bore.

Thanks for the last and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams.

Jeff, that was a great post. Thank you.

Ken, uh, Burroughs, uh, thanks... I think. :-)

I can imagine a big thanksgiving dinner filled with people: cousins, grandchildren, inlaws and grown siblings, and there is the eccentric Uncle Ken, reciting Burroughs as the Thanksgiving family blessing!
OR
Ken meets a woman who comes from a big family and she invites Ken to attend. Being the guest, the family requests Ken to begin Thanksgiving Grace which he does proudly by reciting the heroin-addicted Burroughs.

That scene would be great in my next writing project: National Lapoon's Family Thanksgiving!

I can't believe this. Ever have a day where you read something that apparently you've written but can't remember writing it? I was going over some old files and was rereading the novel I was working on a couple of years ago. The novels based on the 12 staffs of power. I swear to God! I must have been on Ambien when I wrote some additional chapters, character outline and synopsis...cause I don't remember writing ANY of it. I'm reading all this additional stuff and wondering who the hell wrote this cause I don't remember doing it. Its good stuff and solves some parts I was stuck on and brings some history to some of the characters, but I'm stumped. I must have written this stuff BEFORE I moved out, and I was taking Ambien to help me sleep. Sometimes, if I didn't go to bed right away, I'd could watch a movie or apparently write or other shit and NOT remember doing it. Thank God I stopped and no longer needed to take it once I moved out. This is so weird, its like book writing elves came in and wrote shit down that I was struggling with on the story line.

If I wasn't doin' enough as it is, I'd have a mind to keep writing it out.
Not much else is happening and I've got to start following up on the businesses I've contacted. Sears' advertising agency just called yesterday and they say no....bastards, now I'm NOT buying ANY Mastercraft tools.

There's some wackiness going on here at work which inspired a movie idea for a comedic/drama story.
The powerball is now at 160,000,000. About 20 of us pitched in 5 bucks. (We figured, if we win...everyone would receive about 260,000. a year for 20 yrs.)

My idea: One man has gone off and bought the tickets. He discovers that he does hold the only winning ticket. After the weekend, the coworkers come back to work and realize that the one guy....has not come in. In fact, he doesn't show up at all. The next day...no message. One of the employees, goes to the guy's house...and its empty...the guy is gone. The group, the next day, decide to go after and find him. So the rest of the movie is about the group efforts to find and claim their money. I don't know if the guy even has the winning ticket, maybe something else happened and he just up and quit...and the whole manhunt was for nothing....especially if the group...accidentally kills the guy...chasing him and he falls or gets shot...something....
or maybe it should be more dark and sinister and they are very mad and want THEIR MONEY!!
Thats it for me....

Okay, it's 5am and I'm still up. The wheels are spinning inside my head and that doesn't make for a restful night. It would be great to see you all again, but I know that can't happen for quite awhile. I hope you are all doing well. I have to say that living alone is not good for my state of mind. My thoughts are always with my friends and loved ones and how I can see them again soon. Kinda makes it hard to be present in the moment or be very productive.

I've been watching a lot of movies, as usual. My most recent viewings include: Minority Report, Red Dragon, Signs, Frailty, Dahmer, K-19 Widowmaker, and Enemy At The Gates. I guess I need to sit down and start writing reviews. Ken tells me that one can make a little green by referring business to Amazon and suggests that I set up a website of reviews to do so. I must say that I'm interested. As long as I don't lose money on it I would be satisfied. Any profit would make me even happier.

Jeff, as I mentioned on the phone, I like your story idea. I've nearly finished the screenplay and I'm shopping it around all the major studios now. Thanks again for material. I'll mention you in my Oscar speech.

I wanted to see The Two Towers today but I thougth it would be better to let all the rabid fans go first. Hopefully I'll catch a screening before Christmas. It looks fantastic. I'm also looking forward to seeing One Hour Photo and Micheal Moore's latest documentary Bowling For Columbine.

More later...

Yes, it would be great to see everyone during the holidays. I'll have the kids on xmas eve....Kim is now being reasonable so I will probably be over on xmas morning and eat her food.

John, I know this time can be hard and you still struggle with what to do with your life....maybe it is writing movie reviews....can't you try submitting to local and community newspapers? Website is good, actually getting published is even better.

I just met another woman (Ellen) online. After a few hours of writing AND talking on the phone...she came over two weeks ago and we rocked each other's world that Sunday night. Once again! The incredible powers of Mr.X still thrives within me! She is coming over again tomorrow night..and she wants to take me to see Two Towers....hey after all the nice orgasms I've given her...its natural for her to want to GIVE BACK...
So I'm glad to have someone at this time during the holiday...nothing too serious...I'm sure we'll be just friends with special priviledges.

John, have you tried meditating? (That's mediTating, not mediCating). I don't have time for shit lately, but I did squeeze in a viewing of Kundun, and it reminded me of your interest in Buddhism. It also reminded me of your intense dislike of Philip Glass. I enjoyed the film well enough based solely on subject matter and some reasonably good acting, but I was still disappointed with the film itself. Ambitious, but not successful. Agree? Disagree?

As John personal therapist :)
I am confident, Ken, that John will tell you 'Yes' he does meditate. (Maybe he should consider medicate...but that involves doctors and perscriptions, and I believe John is still on a pretty tight budget for that.)
If money was no object, I believe John could use some personal/professional coaching. I can't recall the name, but there is course one can take that tests your skills and abilities and determines what best suits you, regarding career.
I believe John has mentioned he has taken some such career focused services..but I'm unsure on the intensity of the program.
It seems like John is still trying to find his muse OR find and plan out a course of action and have the courage to face the music and make it happen.
Maybe reading through this time of R.Moore's Warrior,King, Magician, Lover. Seek the archetypes and their powers - Use the Magician to envision your life, with the wisdom and confidence of the King and the drive and committment of the Warrior...get up and make it work.

Ken, your reminder for meditation is a good one. I stopped months ago when I began working double and triple shifts and haven't found my way back yet. Now I have plenty of time as works slows down immediately before christmas. Your suggestion is well timed. Yes, it helps immensely.

Kundun certainly isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but is well worth taking the time to see. I think very few people have any understanding of who the Dalai Lama is and what his world was like. Kundun illustrates that very well. Does it ultimately fail? I don't think so, although the subject matter sets the expectation bar rather high. Only so much can be covered in a film of conventional length. I think it invites the viewer to learn more about the Dalai Lama, the history of Tibet, and Buddhism.

I'm interested to hear your opinion of this film. What didn't work for you? What would you have done differently? What were the short comings?

As for Mr. Glass, I'm definitely not a fan. The music for Kundun wasn't as relentless and domineering as his other works, so it didn't ruin the film for me. I actually like ONE work by Glass, the soundtrack to Candyman. He uses more transitions, variations and motifs in this single work than the rest of his oeuvre combined. Of course, it's still mechanical. I think it works because the music is as disturbing and horrifying as the subject matter. :-)

Jeff, I am philosophically opposed to psychiatric medication except in extreme cases. There are clear and concrete reasons for my depression. I prefer to work through those reasons instead of dulling the pain. Cost is no longer an issue since I'm so poor I now qualify for medical coverage from the state.

"It seems like John is still trying to find his muse OR find and plan out a course of action and have the courage to face the music and make it happen."

Jeff is spot on for the first part and completely off on the second. I can't make "it" happen until I know what "it" is. I have no fears on this account.

Could I profit from personal/professional coaching? You bet! Where do I find it? As for interest inventories and aptitude tests I think I've taken them all. I now know that I'm a INTP (actually on the middle of the continuum between [T]hinking and [F]eeling) on the Myers-Briggs test. My interests and education make me perfectly suited to pursue a career as a filmmaker. I excel in the Social Sciences. No surprises all around. I'd like to learn what jobs could come close to being fulling experiences for me and if they are available to me with less than 6 years of additional training/education.

Late on the draw there Curt, I suggested that to John a good 2 years ago...shit..he could be teaching those kids by now. I hear over and over the need and the importance for male teachers, but its not John's thang. (I don't mean to come across like I'm answering for John, I'm just throwing my two cents in as I usually do after someone responds.)Whatever you come up with, good chance John and I already talked about it. But keep those cards and letters coming. The only I can think of that we haven't covered is:
Working for the CIA or FBI
Painting Houses
Professional Tour guide
A crack addict
Nail sculpting
A roadie

Maybe its a matter of going back to the beginning. Lets start with the question #one:
John, what the FUCK do you want?

Of course your interest and education make you suited to pursue filmmaker....you got a degree in Cinematography, but it hasn't gotten you any closer to being a filmmaker so I'm confused on that part.
Regards to the other fullfiling experiences for you with less then 6 years of additional training/education...have you looked into these? What are these things? If you haven't looked, then why the hell not? Why haven't you looked or researched this through?
On the other hand, if you've done the tests and know what you are 'suited' for ....well then it seems like its something else thats getting in the way.
I'm just asking some of the hard questions so maybe some new answers or new insight can surface or maybe not and it'll piss John off. No, I'm not doing it on purpose.

John, why don't you create several versions of your resume tailored for different industries and submit them (for free) to Monster.com? Then if job offers roll in you'll have some options. If some of the jobs pay well, you can pay some bills and save up some coin while you decide what you want to do.

I haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up yet, but at I am making some coin. If nothing comes up, at least I'll be set for my retirement. Pragmatism should be paramount at this stage of the game. Pay bills and prepare for the out years now, and pipe dream later. I haven't given up on my dreams, but I don't let them interfere with obtaining food, clothing and shelter.

(I thought it might be a bit off-topic for the thread that spawned them, so I am responding to John's questions to me about mediTation and Kundun in this new thread.)

>Ken, your reminder for meditation is a good one. Yes,
>it helps immensely.

Great. I have found I can fall asleep almost instantly with some simple mental relaxation.

>Kundun certainly isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but is
>well worth taking the time to see.

Agreed. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

>I think very few
>people have any understanding of who the Dalai Lama is

Oh, yes. I agree. And certainly, the expectation bar was high. But I was intrigued much more so than I was satisfied.

>I'm interested to hear your opinion of this film. What
>didn't work for you? What would you have done
>differently? What were the short comings?

I sensed that Kundun had exquisite reasons for exercising such forbearance, but as a novice to Buddhism, I was at a loss to understand these reasons. I gather there was a great deal of internally consistent religious and philosophical thinking which drove him, and yet very little of this is evident in the film. He seemed to dither, procrastinate, wring his hands in self-doubt and puzzle over moral dilemmas. He engages in apparently ineffective behavior, reacting rather than acting, and then, at length, is finally convinced to flee his home, never to return. The inner strength of a man like the Dalai Lama I had hoped to observe seemed to be nowhere in evidence. Near the end, I started singing "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by The Clash because he was depicted as being incapable of making up his mind on the matter. Rather than focusing on the complexity of the dilemma itself, the film ends up portraying him as indecisive. Perhaps this reveals my Western prejudices, I don't know. I am only a bug.

>As for Mr. Glass, I'm definitely not a fan. The music
>for Kundun wasn't as relentless and domineering as his
>other works, so it didn't ruin the film for me.

I thought it was appropriately exotic-sounding, but it tended to the overbearing at times.

I just wanted to throw onto the table, a different perspective that might shed some light or help regarding John's situation.
Its about Values & Ideals.

This has helped me to realign my wants and desires...what I am willing to do and what I am willing to sacrifice. Any feedback on this is always welcome.(unless you disagree..then shut the hell up!) :)

"A value is something I recognize as good and worthwhile, that I choose to have in my life now by sacrificing other things".

"An ideal is something I recognize as good and worthwhile, that want in my life sometime in the future. I am not willing to sacrifice for it now".

We often think some things are values because they are important to us. But when we look inside ourselves, we often find out that we are not willing to sacrifice for them, and that they aren't values, but in fact ideals.

"I enjoy writing. I have been working on several children stories, and a novel. I have put some time into them to the point that I submitted three separate stories for publishing. At the time they were a value…after a while, I took interest in other things. I still kept them as a value or so I thought. When I would work on them and get interrupted I would become very upset. Yet I might not touch it any more for a good month. Once I realized that writing right now in my life is an ideal and not a value, I find myself more patience with interruptions or even delays or distractions. I get to it someday…right now I have other values in my life. Writing has become an ideal."

Once John discovers what he wants to do, I imagine the next step is knowing whether its a value, that he is willing to sacrifice and make it a priority or if in fact its an ideal...

If you guys get a chance go rent the CLERKS animated show which only aired twice before the asses at ABC cancelled it. It entails six episodes. Once you watch it, replay with commentary. Its fun.
Paul Dini from Batman and Batman Beyond helped write an episode or two and even supplied character voice. I did not know Paul Dini and Kevin Smith were good friends....Paul had a cameo in Jay & SIlent Bob Strike Back...which was hysterical....I've watched it four times already.

New Years Eve is tomorrow. So what are everyone's New Years Resolutions?

I'm still committed to getting the radio show going and look another 25 lbs.
2002 was a good year after all as I had sex with 7 different women....which is probably the same number of women John had after 24 hrs in Thailand...but hey....if I can match it - SNOOTCHIES!!!!
I've just caught the attention of another woman online...Claire/Sheboygan/29/says she works out religiously...but we'll see about that. After the holiday, I'm borrowing money from friend to get car fixed. Pray to God that she can keep help keep it running in 2003. (the car that is)

Hey, Didn't Ken Foster aka DL MacKenzie promise that he was going to mail each of us the Fantasy mag that published his delightful 'The Book Reader'? Am I the only one who DIDN'T get one? Should it be arriving any DAY now?

What ever happened to that cute little publication?

No, he did not promise any such thing. He said he would, but he didn't actually promise anything, the clever dick!

>Am I the

No. Billions of people did not get one, so you've got a lot of company, pal.

That depends on whether you've been a good boy. In other words, don't hold your breath!

>What ever happened to that cute little publication?

They are still going strong in spite of publishing The Book Reader, and in spite of their astronomical cover price. I will try to get you guys some copies. Notice I said try. I did not say I definitely will. In fact, I didn't even say I would try hard. I just said I would try.

I don't do the resolutions thing, but I do draft a new List of Projects for the coming year.

My list includes getting a new Mac G4 with ElectricImage and Adobe Premiere to allow me to model and render some QuickTime VR locations and objects.

Teresa and I will be filling out paperwork to get that new house.

Another big project for me will involve the 30th Anniversary of the Animated STAR TREK. I have designed a logo and will be making mugs, sweatshirts, decals, etc. for me and my Trek friends.

I will also be starting to do interviews for the Making of Animated STAR TREK book I am planning to write. I want to proceed to interviews even without a book deal in hand because the creators and actors involved in that series are not getting any younger.

I also hope to do a special edition custom DVD of the series with cool menus and supplementary info from my site. I have started working on a soundtrack music CD from the Animated STAR TREK series - just for fun. These will not be to sell, but just to have and give to friends.

I also want to buy a vintage Philco-type radio from the 1930's on eBay and retrofit it to play MP3 CD's containing Old Time Radio shows. I think it would be cool to turn on an old radio and hear old radio show coming out of it.

I also want to design and print some custom Calendars using a 13" wide Epson printer I'm buying from a friend. I'm thinking of making Lost In Space, 1960's Secret Agents and of course Animated STAR TREK calendars.

That's about it.

Hey guys, I think this is a good idea. Howzabout everyone come up with a similar list? In other words, projects you have in mind. They don't necessarily have to require a mortgage to qualify; just stuff you've been itching to do. Or resolutions. Whatever.

I'll ponder this and post mine soon.

1) For 2003, I plan on receiving my copy of THE BOOK READER from my butthole friend. (I might 'try' and read the story.)

2)In 2 weeks, open up business acct. at bank.

3)Save up to become incorporated as an official LLC.

4)Continue to get advertising spots sold for radio show.

5)Once #3 is complete, hope that the law firm is still going to assist with finding investors for me to finance InnerCompass LLC. (I've now thinking about layout for mediakit to give to interested investors.)

6) Offer Ken a job as writer for InnerMan Cards.

7) With funds from radio show-become debt free, buy a car, some suits and focus the rest of the year on InnerCompass.

8) Intermix throughout the year with mini creative projects of writing hogalum episodes and wizard novel and help a friend in Milwaukee with some music compositions.

Geez, Ken...how many DAYS do you need to come up with a freakin' list of projects or resolutions for 2003? You think you might be able to cough one up by Nov?
Curt, got your xmas letter....your daughters are beautiful!

About the reunion....can we take the first step and narrow down a month? I believe the hotel fares start declining around Aug. What the fuck do you guys wanna do? Hey Curt...do you think you can check with your friend about his suite for 2003?

I had car taken in and thank God, it seems the transmission was froze up but not in disrepair. I was SO worried that I'd be paying 1000 for new transmission and begin paying friend back for fronting me the money. Its still in the shop but appears that all I'll have to pay for is towing and getting new fluids in car...now I can just maintain the car and keep it running as long as I can until finances improve and I'm doing much better.
By the way....if I get the radio show up and going this first quarter and get settled with sponsors, I'll do something really nice for the group when we get together. Sorry NO hookers!!!

Hey Curt, let me know about your radio library....if I can get an alarm clock system which also plays MP3s...I'd love to have copies of the shows....as I listen to the radio alot to help me fall asleep. I need the radio to help keep me distracted from daydreaming about sitting naked with John & Ken in a jacuzzi drinking long island ice teas!

So lets get a MONTH in place please and begin working towards planning and committing to the date and hotel.

Uh, we did that two months ago, Jeff, and I quote: "Second week of August...piece of cake mutha fuckas"

Heinous Steers of Death!!

How do you like the title of my new children bedtime story?

I just got my car back. The cost - $48.00. Yep...apparently it was completely out of transmission fluid, so all I had to pay was towing. I still don't get it as I put 2 containers of fluid in when the transmission seemed to be faulty. I picked it up this morning and feel SO thankful that I didn't have to spend 1,000.00

I got laid again the other night....ANOTHER woman who ejects some SERIOUS female ejaculation when she orgasms....I had to wash my comforter!!! it was soaked!! Either there is something to this, when you hit the right spot with them or there is a league of women who enjoy pissing in my face.

I would like a confirmation that all of us are committed to meeting in vegas on the second week of Aug. 2003. 10 -14 Sunday-Thursday. I am considering visiting my mom in Tucson. So I'd like to hear some options. I don't know if I should fly to phx first for a couple of days, see mom then head off to vegas with John & Ken OR ride back with the two bastards(John&Ken)set up camp at John's place adn see mom, then take Tucson airpor back to Milwaukee.

The only thing that concerns me is John & Ken deciding to take John's truck. That would suck BUT I'm not totally ruling out the idea. Its a matter of choosing between a cramped airplane seat or in John's truck.

Any ideas?

Are the dates I laid out ok with everyone? I'm starting to plan out my budget for the trip so I'd like to narrow down a time then we can choose a place and make reservations.

PS CURT-John, Ken and Myself have download Yahoo Messenger. I have also sent you an email on this. Have you or are you going to do this so we can all connect some night?

I would like to do this at the very end of August. I guess we need to check the rental rates and see what our options are. I wouldn't mind staying at the Luxor again.

I'd be happy to drive a big sedan up if Jeff wants to rent one as I only have one vehicle. This year I'd prefer to fly up to Vegas unless we need to do otherwise.

Well, either time is fine. I believe we can get really good rates, better then Luxor, at the Flamingo. We won't know what those rates are UNTIL May or June. Last year I was getting a lot of notices from Flamingo on hotel rates of 39.00 a night.

You can forget that noise, lunchbox...there's no way I'm renting a vehicle to go to Vegas....not when the car alone is gonna cost 50.00+ a day (unless I get all the funding I need for the radio show, then no big deal, plus I can write it off as a business expense BUT I'm not counting on it since I'm getting more no's the yes's. In fact there's probably a better chance of Ken getting published before ....DOH!.....Damn it.....now what the hell am I to do?

OK...so are we now shooting for Aug 24(Sunday) - Aug 28th (Thurs)? I believe we get the best rates if we go Sun-Thurs.
And what does this mean about Ken? Will the fearsome duo Ken-Tronic and his sidekick Johnny-bot go their separate ways to the city of "Nothing is Real"? Will Johnny-bot take aero-copter while Ken-tronic makes his way via the electo-auto? Or will they keep to tradition and SHut the Hell Up, Get their Asses In The Damn Car and Arrive to Town at a Reasonable Time So The Enigmatic Empathetic Man Isn't Waiting FOR HIS DAMN DOOR KEY!!!!!

I will look into Yahoo Instant messenger. I'm not a big fan of the

Sun - Thu is 5 five nights, but we certainly don't need that many. I think 3 nights is long enough. To keep costs down they should definitely occur between Sun - Thu. I'm open to any start day between Sun - Tue for our 3 nights.

We need to know when the rates are best to pick actual days. Although business is down during the summer, I remember a couple of conventions going on at that time. Rates climb accordingly, so we want to time our meeting between Vegas summer events. The odds are excellent that there won't be any conflicts on the last week of Aug, but if there are it won't kill me to move our vacation forward or back a week.

>Sun - Thu is 5 five nights...

No John, I was referring to the entire time together Sun - Thurs. Thats Thursday DAY....Wed. night would be the last night.

I suggest we keep it at meeting Sunday afternoon, stay past WED. night and leave on Thurs.

This will give us more time to NOT cram so much in such short time and allow us to sleep once in awhile. Sunday we will meet, get settled and argue over where to eat dinner, that'll take most the evening....keep in mind, as shy as Ken and Curt are, it'll take some time to get reaccustomed to each other. PLUS we'll be up all fucking night through Monday morning....we will have some time to circle up Monday night and Tues night OR play around Tues night and circle up on Wed. night....which will last til dawn...sleep for a few hrs. then leave on Thursday.

As I remember, Sun - Tues wasn't long enough. If you also consider the time it will take arguing about where to go, what to eat, when to sleep, who is gonna pair off while John gambles etc. etc. I believe Sun-Tues will be a disservice to the group. Why cut it short John? I would think from your letters of missing us that you'd be open to more days. Is there something your not telling us?

I would like to be the first one to state that I would like to enjoy an occasional cigar or pipe with Ken while on the trip. Maybe this time, Ken and I should pair up? Keeping with tradition, I should be trying to sleep while Ken keeps me awake with his fucking jokes!!!

Wait a second, back in 2000, didn't we spend much of the time in one room? I believe we shared the double beds. If cost is an issue, we could all just stay in one room? Or is it best, in order to sleep, for the guys who need to sleep while CURT and whomever else stills keeps going & going & going. Now that I think about it, the benefit of two rooms allows the guys in room #1 to talk about the guys in room #2 :)

If I have a cigar with Ken, even outside...there's a chance I'll smell like bologna...I mean cigar smoke...and I want to respect Curt's sensitivity to it. If its NOT an issue, then when there is time, I'd like to sit outside-maybe by the pool(or on Ken's lap)and smoke a big fat one....THEN have a cigar with Ken.

This time I want to establish some sense of an itinerary...I am asking if ANY man has something in particular that he wants to do to get it on the table so I can write it down. **This does NOT mean that we are going to follow a schedule.....I want to make sure that we aren't sitting on our asses trying to decide WHAT to do..when we could have talked it through months before..I'm not going to go through that BS again...and from what I heard men say from the Prescott trip, the same type of shit took place. So lets STOP the ideal of being spontaneous...since its proven NOT to work well for the group.
Any thoughts, lets hear them.

As I remember it, 3 days wasn't enough on the first reunion because we had a lot of catching up to do. We had more than enough time on subsequent meetings. I also want to insure that we have enough time together, but I want to cut down on idle days to save costs of daily room rates and meals.

As for gambling, that really won't be happening unless I hit a big jackpot on a couple of slot pulls because I'm broke and in debt now. On those earlier trips I had zero debt and several hundred in expendable cash.

>Wait a second, back in 2000, didn't we spend much of

I think this is a fine idea. Having two rooms is an unnecessary luxury. Maybe we should consider this. Ideally, we wouldn't be couped up in the rooms much to begin with. We just need a place to crash and shower.

>This time I want to establish some sense of an

What men were heard to utter such balderdash? Let's not even bring up the last reunion because there were too many issues and having an itenerary was not one of them.

If any of you have things you want to do on this trip by all means air them so we can work them in. Some may not agree. If Jeff wants to go bungee jumping, or even more recklessly, eat hot dogs, then you can count me out. Let's see everyone's wish list then. Here is mine:

1. Yak with you guys until our ears burn.
2. Eat at least 1 good meal a day, preferrably 3. Good meaning tasty, not expensive.
3. Drink the occassional beer.
4. Lose the $20 I'm allowing myself to gamble with. That should take about 5 minutes.
5. Take a few walks to see how much has changed in 2 years. I'm sure a lot has. I have no specific places in mind and I think I've seen everything in Vegas I really want to see except for the museum at Belagio.

I still think 3 nights is enough, but if you all want more then we'll do more. Maybe some of you have much longer and more detailed to do lists.

Similar to my agenda, except I won't be gambling at all. My $20 will go to a couple fine meals at an all-you-can-engorge buffet. I'll be checking Vegas and travel sites for ideas, though, and may have more must-do items later.

Okay, we've covered a lot of territory here. Perhaps the following will clarify our current situation, communicate my positions, and help arrive at a consensus:

As far a travel arrangements, John wants to fly, and I would prefer that also, I suppose, although I would share the actual driving duties if John is amenable to that. If Curt will drive Jeff to Vegas, that will be fine, but Jeff will still have to hitch a ride from Tucson to Phoenix with John, which might create some schedule conflict if John is trying to catch a flight at Sky Harbor.

As far as timing, I am completely flexible. August is best, though. Which week in August is unimportant to me, but lower rates are somewhat important. I would think Curt might prefer earlier in August, as he will no doubt have some back-to-school considerations with his girls as August progresses. John has to consider work availability. Otherwise, it's just hotel rates we are dealing with.

I agree with John that five nights is a bit much, but I agree with Jeff that three nights is not enough. Jeff's timeline:

Sunday: Meet, get settled, argue, stay up all fucking night
Monday: Sleep, circle up or goof off in p.m.
Tuesday: Circle up and/or goof off
Wednesday: Repeat until exhausted, check out following morning

...sounds good to me.

As far as accommodations, again, I don't care. Low rates somewhere on the strip. Imperial Palace was just fine by me. It was cheap, convenient, clean, and comfortable. There's a part of me that would like to try something different, and I was partial to Mandalay Bay, quite frankly, but cheap, convenient, clean, and comfortable is hard to beat. I assume we are all pretty much in agreement on this.

As far as Yahoo messenger, it would be great if we used it, especially for hammering out stuff like this. It would take a fraction of the time. And it's fun.

As far as Futures Magazine, I am sending everyone their own copy, so don't worry. I get an author rate that is lower, and I did say I would send you copies.

Yes, my days of driving to Vegas are over. I really hate that drive, not only because it's so long, but because it's so incredibly dangerous on that stretch.

I will be flying from Tucson, not Phx. If Jeff comes to visit his mom then we can fly out together from here.

I do want to stick with the last week of August unless we NEED to change that.

I would also like to stay in a new place for the variety of it, but the more I think about it the less I care. After all, we're just going to sleep there. We can look for variety by finding new hang outs for talks. Value and comfort should be the only real considerations.

Then I'll be flying from Phoenix, and I guess we'll all be taking cabs from the airport. I guess we're not out to save money after all!

Alright Men, Listen up!
Glad to hear arriving on Sunday(I believe anytime after 3PM is when we can register.)Staying FOUR nights and leaving THursday afternoon.
My trip to Phx. was just taking advantage of some of you driving, but not necessary. If I don't get to see(sniff) my mother(sniff) then FINE, and I'm not all that excited about seeing my brother and being followed by unmarked black helicopters.(I get enough of that here in Milwaukee.)

I will also fly from Milwaukee directly to Vegas. (Guys..please do NOT jump into a cab. I am sure Ken just wrote that down real quick but I want to make sure you realize that there are shuttles which run from airport to main fancy shmancy hotels. The cost is a cheap 7.50?(less then 10.00) and the shuttles run like every 10 minutes. It would be cool if we could meet AT airport within a reasonable amount of time and take same shuttle but not really necessary.
Again, I will keep track of The Flamingo Hotel...its has nice tropical pool side environment and, I think, nicer then Imperial. They did have some kick ass rates of 40.00 a night, we get one room with 2 double or queen size beds and we are set. This will mean we will have to register with two guys.(more then two they are gonna charger extra per man) Yes...I am sure we are talking pennies if we look at the whole enchilada between four of us, but if you want to cut cost as best you can, then we register with just two.

My itinerary:
1)We spend two evenings 'circling up' and focus on us, better understanding us, support each other and challenge each other.
2)If its still open, go to GAMESWORKS and spend 2-3 hrs shooting undead, firing bazookas and using my kung fu til my thumbs are numb and blistered.
3)Spend time at NAPOLEAN'S (I like the atmosphere)
4)Lay out by the pool and enjoy the sun and the pool.
5)Crablegs! I'd like to try some King Crablegs. There was some place 5 yrs. ago that offered at a decent price.
6)Shop around at Ceasars.
7)Open to some new things out there...

Hey, Curt...
If you could please download and get prepared with yahoo messenger...John & Ken & I, by pure chance last night, all connected and went into a privat chat room. We ended up BSing FOR 4 1/2 fucking hours.
There were times, I was wiping my eyes from the tears of laughing from the zaniness.
To this day, I hereby add "ChimpFly" to the Hogadictionary.
I didn't get to sleep til 5am.
Had a friend come over with some furniture he didn't want a nice solid wood rocker...and a exercise set(weight bench, leg curls and shoulder press)
I just need to get weights this spring and focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle this year.

Let us know, when you are going to be ready Curt.

I downloaded it and installed it already. I still need to know what your
Yahoo IDs are, though. E-mailing them is a better idea than posting here.

I take it yesterday's late night talkfest is the reason that the latest
installment of Magnetron is late!

So, what is the new style that Ken is sporting?

My style is still the same: clean shaven and short-haired, but I now
weight around 14 stone (196 lbs).

You got mine, and if John hasn't gotten with you, his is the same as his Yahoo email address

You got that right, mister. It's also the reason I was a bleary-eyed chair-warmin' coffee-swillin' layabout knucklehead at work the following day. Everyone said, "rough night?" and I said, yeah, I was up all night chatting about eating my own poop. They've asked me not to come back any more.

>So, what is the new style that Ken is sporting?

You can bet I won't be shaving my head any time soon. I've got a touch more gray, which looks rather distinguished since I got my hair cut, and a beer belly you could bounce a fifty-cent piece on. My navel is now large enough that I am making Hogalumpalooza 2003 souvenir pillows from the lint.

Well, I went ahead and did it.

I shaved my whole fucking head today.

I'm getting new glasses soon and getting a pair of the black frame rectangular lenses.

I'm keeping the beard though...no mustache, just a beard covering the chin.

It was something I envisioned a couple of months ago, and working my way towards it.

So, I did it, and I'm completely fucking bald...and now my head is cold.
DAMN! No one told me this!
It feels like all my body heat is spewing out like....like...well, like something spewing out alot of stuff!
My head is like....having hot flashes....I think I'm gonna go to bed wearing a ski cap.

I didn't shave, rather go with the shiny bald look, I'm going on the stubble look.

Damn....It feels like someone spilt IcyHot on my head....maybe I should put a heating pad on my head, hold it down with some rubber bands....

Man, this is really a funky feeling.

So whats up with you guys...you are so damn weird...you write 3 or 4 times, then just stop. Whats the deal, did you get your quota in for the month already?

I think the stubble look is quite different from the shaved look. Really a matter of taste, I guess. I've considered shaving a number of times but never went that far. You've all seen how I've switched to keeping my hair extremely short. I went with the stubble look for a couple of times, but I think my head is too big and fat to pull that off. A little hair on the sides breaks up the egghead look. :-) I think those guys fortunate enough with strong features look great bald. Patric Stewart comes to mind.

Since we're all having our midlife crises, in one way or another, I guess changes come with the territory. I finally shaved off the beard I've had for the last 10 years. I might try actually shaving my head this Summer. Then if I don't like it I can grow it back to where it is now in about a week. :-/

You should see Ken. When he came down to Tucson to visit I was totally unprepared for the changes he made in his style.

No one can explain the Buffalo Theory as well as Cliff Clavin did on "Cheers" to his buddy Norm:

"The herd can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. The general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

"In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient
machine.

"And that's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

I don't remember if I shared this with you guys before. It's one of my favorite jokes.

On opening day of hunting season, an expert rifleman made his way into the backcountry to bag himself a prized bear. He walked a few miles in and seated himself next to a comfortable rock and began to wait.

After a while he felt a tapping on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw a bear, made for his rifle, and was promptly swatted to the ground.

"You have two choices," the bear said. "I can maul you right now or I can fuck you up the ass.

The hunter chose dishonour before death as the bear had his way with him.

Angry as hell, the hunter vowed to return to the woods to kill that bear. He stalked the creature for a while, seated himself in a tree, and began to wait.

Not too long, he felt a tapping at his feet, looked down, and saw the bear. He tried to grab his rifle, but slipped and fell to earth.

"My my my," began the bear. "You again! Well, I'll give you two choices: I can maul you or you can suck my dick."

Once again, the hunter decided to bide his time and return to exact revenge on the bear. So, he obliged the bear and was set on his way.

Now madder than a hornet, the hunter bought a new and bigger gun and returned to the woods to kill that bear. This time he sat himself on a precipice to watch for the bear.

Not too long, he felt a tapping at his shoulder again, and was not suprised to see the bear. He made a mad dash for his new rifle, but dropped it over the edge, lost forever.

The bear then looked at him and said, "Admit it, you don't come out here for the hunting, do you?"

I just heard this one and laughed myself to tears:

A woman meets a gorgeous man in a bar. They talk, they connect, and they end up leaving together. They get back to his place and as he shows her around his apartment she notices that his bedroom is completely packed with sweet, cuddly teddy bears. Hundreds of cute small bears on a shelf all the way along the floor, cuddly medium-sized ones on a shelf a little higher, and enormous bears on the top shelf along the wall.

The woman is surprised that this guy would have a collection of teddy bears, especially one that's so extensive, but she decides not to mention this to him, and actually is quite impressed by his sensitive side. She turns to him...they kiss... and then they rip each other's clothes off and make hot steamy love.

After an intense night of passion with this sensitive guy, as they are lying there together in the afterglow, the woman rolls over and asks, smiling, "Well, how was it?

The guy says: "Help yourself to any prize from the bottom shelf."

Hey, since we're all on Yahoo Messenger now, I propose a 4-way conference. You're all invited to attend Saturday evening, Feb 1, 2003 at 8pm MST. I believe that's 7 for Curt and 9 for Jeff. Can everyone make this? Please post your responses here, and if a given day and/or time doesn't work for you, please suggest another so we can eventually arrive at an agreeable schedule.

Would love to, but my highly irresponsible supervisor at work refuses to finish the schedule for next week. All I know is that I will work on Saturday, and probably a couple of other days. This has been a real bitch because I have a long list of things I need to attend to next week, but I can't make any plans yet.

Okay, we'll table this for now. When your dumbass supervisor finally gets around to making your schedule and you have some idea of availability after other obligations are factored in, let us know and we'll pick at the juicy morsels left dangling from the carcass that was your week. Note: I probably won't know what my February looks like until the very end of January.

I was working on the archive tonight. It is 1.7 MB as a Word file, but will become larger as an RTF. I still need to remove some lingering html tags and tighten the format a bit. It is in the neighborhood of 600 pages long!

When it is done, I'll place it in a directory for you all to download, and then I'll remove it. Then I will remove the Hogalum site entirely.

I've been busier these last few months than I ever have in life. That's both good and bad,
but mostly good. I still see my family and spend oodles of quality time with them. No problem there.

Are we going to get together this year? I hope that the four of us are effectual enough that we can just rendezvous at the same place for a couple of days to chat.

John, I hope you are healing and I look forward to talking with you in person real soon. Drop me an e-mail any time you'd like to set up a time for me to call you.

Can we work out a get together? I think it's possible. Considering that Curt and I both travel to Phx to see family from time to time, I think with minimal planning we can be there at the same time. Ken lives there, so we just have to pry him away from work for a day or two. But things get a little tougher when we consider that Jeff has to fly out and needs a place to stay.

A well known cardiologist died and was given an elaborate funeral. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the service. Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the doctor in the beautiful heart forever.

At that point one of the mourners burst into laughter. When confronted, he said "I'm sorry, I was just thinking of my own funeral. I'm a gynecologist."

At that point, the proctologist fainted.

A woman goes to a gynecologist, and while he's examining her, the doctor lets out a long, low whistle and says, "you have the biggest vagina I've ever seen."

The woman goes home and can't get the remark out of her mind. She takes a full length mirror off the wall and puts it on the floor. Then she takes off all her clothes and stands over the mirror to get a look for herself.

Just then her husband comes home early from work and gives her a quizzical look. "What are you doing?" he asks.

"Um, ah, exercising," she replies.

"Well," he says, "be careful you don't fall into that hole."

An 90-year-old man went to his doctor for his annual checkup. The doctor asks him how he's feeling. The 90-year-old says, "I've never felt better. I have an 18-year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. What do you think about that?"

The doctor considers his question for a minute and says, "I have a friend who is an avid hunter and never misses a season. One day when he was going out in a bit of a hurry, he accidentally picked up his umbrella instead of his gun.

When he got to the creek, he saw a prime beaver sitting upright on a large rock. He raised his umbrella and said "Bang, bang", and the beaver fell over dead. What do you think of that?"

The 90-year-old said, "I'd say somebody else shot that beaver."

The doctor replied, "My point exactly."

So, what is it? If we can't have a conference we can't have anything? What about this board, or email?

What's going on with you guys? Any interesting developments? Any flow of creativity? Any thoughtful musings?

When I get back I'm going to be doing up a business plan for a small, yet lucrative enterprise with my good friend Mohammed. I'm also exploring the opportunities available in the teaching field. I need to learn a lot more about that before ruling it out or moving forward in that direction.

My internet hours are all used up this month, but I pop on to look here and grab email, then log off right away. Don't give up on me. I'm still here, however briefly.

I saw a very good film recently, "Focus", an adaptation of the Arthur Miller novel about antisemitism in America. William Macy, a great actor, stars. I recommend it.

I'm also reading an interesting novel, "The Tortuous Serpent" by Donald Tyson. It's an occult adventure set in Europe during the Elizabethan period. The protagonist is John Dee, the famous occultist. The first 100 pages have been good. I'll let you know if it's worth finishing.

My poop is mostly a lovely shade I call Poop Brown. The other day, I noticed an intriguing pattern of undigested corn kernels that called to mind crop circles or perhaps native American petroglyphs, but on the whole, there's nothing much to report on the poop front.

My car idles a bit rough, but has been reliably getting me from point A to point B, so I guess I'll keep driving it until it explodes in a big fireball and I have to take the bus to a car dealership.

I can't elaborate any more or bring up any more interesting topics, I'm afraid. I am endeavoring to ensure this discussion board sucks bad enough that I will never have John busting my chops for an rtf archive of this useless drivel.

Oh, I forgot to mention:
A)I got laid on Tues and will again today,Friday.
B)My car engine seized up destroying the engine. The waterpump went out, water drained, but due to cold frigid air, car never heated up. Car is trash. I am back on bus.
C)I ate a florida orange last night.
D)I'm getting paid on Feb. 7th-with that money, I'm getting incorporated! and thats that.

Question: How many licks does it take to get to the chewy center of Ken's poop?
Answer: (lick) One, (lick) Two, (lick) Three, (CRUNCH!)

I applaud the wonderful and colorful bio of Satyros! What joy I felt while I read and wept. The Satyros family are so blessed. We gathered together with relatives, as we celebrated the news that the Satyros Twins, Hamish & Angus were accepted as agents for the new Homeland Security team. Our shining boys have grown into fine young men. Apparently they receive high marks from their 'sponsor', which the boys are dumbfounded as they don't recall anyone sponsoring or acting as a mentor. Nevertheless, hearing the news, we gathered together after dinner and had Grandma Satie read aloud the bio from the Magnetron website. Grandma was all teary eyed...being a strong willed and fiesty woman, to see her shed such tears was a one time spectical. Its as if Grandma Satie knew something the rest of us did not about our adventurous ancestor. God bless you all....Martin Satyros.

Where were you when you first learned of the space shuttle Challenger explosion? Sometimes news is so terrible that one never forgets the moment it is revealed or how one finds out.

I heard the news on the radio while driving to class at the university. When I walked into the room I stopped everyone and announced the bad news.

I supose you've all learned that the shuttle Columbia was lost today on re-entry over Texas. Sorrowful news.

I probably won't forget how I learned about this, either. I woke up and scanned the news headlines today to see a story about Iraq claiming that the shuttle disaster was God's punishment of America. What a horribly stupid thing to say and what an ugly way of finding out.

I was at work when the Challenger met its demise. A tearful coworker informed our entire office of the tragedy, and work pretty much ceased for the day.

Today, I was finally getting around to putting the Satyros bio online. I connected and--as is my custom--I fired up Yahoo news before opening my ftp utility. Fortunately, I caught a straight AP wire story about Columbia rather than the Iraqi bile John endured.

I hastily revised the Magnetron front page to include a simple dedication to the orbiter's crew. As I say there, they are "The Real Heroes."

That was beautiful Ken.

I was with a woman I have been spending time and sleeping with over in Racine, WI. She picked me up friday night and met her girlfriend and her new man. The four of us checked out some pubs out here that you guys would LOVE. Cream City brick interiors, wood floors, micro brews. I SO wished you guys were here and enjoying the mose excellent surroundings and the night life here in Milwaukee.

I made a vow that whenever my endeavors become successful, I'd pay to fly you guys out and cover costs for the whole time we are together.

Well, I stayed at the woman's house that night, and did the nasty that night and in the morning. As she went to make coffee, I was attempting to listen to the nature sounds on her radio, when I inadvertantly clicked on the radio. The AM station mentioned about some fireball over Texas? Thinking it was some BS station or maybe some cornhole religious station about Armagedon....I switched to FM and caught wind....of....Shuttle Columbia?? lost contact during reentry? Fireball??? WHat the fuck??!!! So I slipped some clothes on and told the woman to turn on the television it sounds like the shuttle exploded.... I told myself...if I see any reports or newspapers pics of Muslims dancing around partying over the deaths of the astronauts...I'd WALK to Iraq myself and kick their fucking asses!!

I had just had a nice morning roll in the hay with my wife and got up to flick on the
tube. This was several hours after the event. All of the news channels talked about
debris field, but nothing - not even a text scroll - recounted what they were talking about.
I hate it when the news assumes you've been watching from the beginning. Finally, I
surmised that the shuttle must have blown up. It was several minutes later that they
finally recounted the events that lead up to the disintegration.

My mood had an undertone of sadness for the rest of the weekend.

I will finish up the archive this week. I have a bit more work to do converting the Archive html tags to MS Word. The file is around 1.7 MB and when completed I will post it to a private web directory the address of which I will e-mail to each of you. Then, when you all have downloaded it I will remove it.

Take care.

Yes, Today is my birthday. I'm NOW 41 years young. The last 12 months have been filled with heart ache, vengeful anger, hope, tears, Faith, amazement, fear, creative synergy, peace, anxiety, frustration, relief, desire, passion and solitude.

This year will be just as exciting, glamorous and frightening.

Okay, I am a jackass. I admit this freely. I am simply incapable of remembering birthdays, even my own. Please, everyone, how about posting your birthday on this board (mine is June 17) so I can put them all into Outlook.

Anyway, happy birthday, Jeff. I see you got a thesaurus for a gift, so I'll have to think of something else, eh? I already had to take the gold hair brushes back. You're driving me crazy, you poop-eating, knob-polishing, peter-puffing, fart-knocking whackjob!

Here's hoping you have more hope, faith, amazement, creative synergy, peace, relief, passion, excitement, and glamour, and less heartache, vengeful anger, tears, fear,
anxiety, frustration, and solitude this year than the last.

All,

I'll be out of town until the 16th of February. The whole family is
spending a week in Lake Tahoe. I don't know if I'll be able to get any Internet
access while I'm up there, so I may be gone from this board for a few days.

Tahoe? Man, that's like the third world! I don't think they have internet connections there. Next time take a holiday in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It's a small village of a few thousand about 3 hours north of Bangkok, but they have a cutting edge internet shop with computer gaming available by the hour. You have to watch out though. The local kids can really kick your ass playing Unreal or Doom on the networked systems.

Have a great break with the family, Curt.

I just received my incentive bonus for the year. After taxes, it was a nice 1,200.00. I am feeling VERY good about getting Inner Compass LLC ready.
I'll put 1,000 aside for a down payment on a car when I'm ready to live the horrible life of making car payments. But I'm in no hurry at this time.

The other hundred I'm opening up checking acct for I.C. and sending a check off to get lawyer to Incorporate. I was feeling afraid for awhile...fearing that the law firm was going to back down and not help. When I contacted him yesterday he was ready to get it going. THEN with that finished I'll talk to him about getting investors.
In the meantime, I'm still putting together my investors packet of the company AND I just contacted SCORE. SCORE is the organization of retired execs who counsel new business owners/entrepreneurs. My one weakness is not getting the necessary feedback regarding my business plan. I need to get it tightened up and prepared to be scrutinized by capital venturists.

I also had an idea, and have sent a request for help from the warrior community, asking for any man who has sales skills to contact me if he is interested in selling airtime for the radio show. I had received requests...its just a matter of finding a man who is willing to step up and take on this role for 15% cut of total amount of contract.

Its getting closer.....the engine is being built...the tracks are being laid...I can't wait to be the first to place the first shovel of coal and get this train moving!

Best of luck to you, Jeff. You're definitely on track by contacting SCORE. I've had friends here in Tucson use them with great results. Also, a very wise move to not rush into handling a new car and payments. I hope your streak of good luck continues with a good lead on a nice auto.

More news!
I just talked to a man from the warrior community. He has 18 yrs. of radio advertising experience. Being a man who has gone through the process, is a single father who cares for his 11 yr.old daughter, and believes The ManTalk Show can eventually kick ass, we are meeting next Tues. to discuss in depth. This guy has gone on to doing his own thing, running his own e-advertising business and helping with other creative endeavors.

He has stated he has read my marketing packet and wants to help, so I am excited that he'll be the missing piece I need to make this happen. He did state that I was asking too much so I gotta rearrange my entire pay/expense structure. Even by cutting down my fee by 50%, only asking for $50.00 for (1) minute commercial, once the station is paid and the sales guy gets his 15%, that'll leave me with a nice 40K annual income. (Of course if I have to do additional advertising then the funds will come from the 40K nest egg.) Not bad for doing a one hour show once a week.
The nice thing is, its the start.
I feel confident with this guy as he is very familiar with many people on my list of whom I've been trying to contact or who told me no. With a new price structure and his salesmanship, I have renewed hope.

This guy is also interested in the overall Inner Compass project...I'm looking forward to seeing how well this all work out. I believe this is gonna be a very exciting month!

I just went down to the seaside today. The first week was spent in Bangkok visiting friends and doing more research for importing. I found some very beautiful and unusual silk products on a previous trip, but I couldn't identify them. Now I know they originate in Laos, more specifically, only the Luang Prabang region. That explains why these things just aren't seen by most people. I'm thinking of specializing in this one type of silk. This may require a trip to Laos soon. Personally, I would rather develop a business contact here in Thailand that can work as an agent in Laos. I have one already, but I think I can find a better deal.

Right before I left Tucson I met with an import retailer that took some samples from me and is considering carrying my stuff on consignment, or perhaps even ordering from me. They have my email, but I haven't heard anything yet. I hope they contact me before my trip ends so I can know to supply them or not. That would be a great oportunity to expand the operation and scale up the profits. Otherwise, I'll have to continue selling on my own. If I can get some steady business importing, then I will get a business license & tax number. Then I can write off many of my trip costs as business expenses. If the business never really develops, then I at least have a good write off for the 5 years allowed. If it grows, then great.

Since I just got into town I'll probably drop by and see how Aoy is doing today. I haven't heard from her in over a month. After I give myself a little time to relax and decompress, I'll contact my other friends in town and have some fun. Right now I'm looking forward to a swim in the sea.

More later...

My fucking brain is gonna explode!!! Too much info.!!!

I am WORE out. I shouldn't be .....I slept for a good 8 hrs before...went to meeting with SCORE guy - eh...disappointed...I wanted some serious feedback on business plan and have a perspective on my next step.

Instead I got some ok feedback and a list of their classes.
He seemed overwhelmed at my business plan and didn't go over it. Thats the one thing about meeting with retired executives-its about them feeling good about helping you. I was farther along then I think he expected, he felt good to have helped and I left with some info...but I think he got more of it then I did.

My lunch was very good. Todd is the man who has 18 yrs of radio experience in sales AND moved on to his own successful business. He had some good feedback. Although his advice is on the other spectrum of the law firm. The law firm suggests I go all out, get the capital -hire the staff, get the office and make it happen. Todd thinks I should go more grassroots. Contract out to photographers and other artists, work from home while still working for M&I, PROVE myself, SELL some cards first, get the website going, get samples & create portfolio of cards/Posters/calendars etc.,incorporate with the radio show, keep overhead low. BUUT, to do that, it means having money upfront to pay for fees to photographers and other shit. Unless I use funds from radio show to get Inner Compass LLC started. He has his own business and is coming from successful experience. Arrgh, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.

I got home at 3, went to take a nap and SLEPT for 2 1/2 HRS...and deeply...man! I am tired and kinda groggy...I think its part of relief as Todd sounds like he's gonna give it a try handle sales for radio show. He's gonna contact the operations mgr. touch base with him, listen to my demo and send some feelers out there.

I gotta keep plowing through this and also let it all seep in...

We were IM'ing a bit there. Spent some quality time on M&I's dime, too. Then he pissed me off (which is quite easy to do, especially for Jeff) and I fell off the edge of the Earth again. Curt is evidently still roughing it in the wilds of Tahoe and will be out of touch until they get one of those stationary-bike-powered generators out there to power a hopped-up Commodore 64 with a two-way microwave satellite link for internet communications with civilization. I see you've decided to epitomize everything I despise about global trade by chiseling Laotian peasants for a bigger profit margin on your Marco Polo by Ralph Lauren line. Mostly, I just haven't felt very chatty.

>I was going to tell you guys
>all about the amazing goings on over here, but if

I hear Bangkok police are really cracking down on stray elephants. Here, we're at Condition Orange, the ongoing economic recovery is being hampered by a persistent failure to exist, Colin Powell is circulating photos of Osama bin Laden cleaning Saddam Hussein's swimming pool, and a new poll suggests that a majority of Americans think Condoleezza Rice is Uncle Ben's stepdaughter. Top that!

>you're not interested...

Yes, I was only teasing. But it seems that when I go away the level of posts or emails always drops, even though I check online almost every day. I was wondering if that was coincidence, or what?

Chiseling Laotian peasants???? By paying them more than anyone else here ever will, how is that? Merchants here pay them about $4 for a product they sell for about $25. I can then pay the merchant $25 and sell the same item for about $75 in the U.S. Instead, I want to pay the Laotian $20 and cut out the middleman. How is that bad? Because I can make a profit by hauling the stuff to a higher paying market I am evil? Try buying anything in America now that isn't the product of servere exploitation of foreign workers. Will I pay a Laotian craftsman the same wage a US textile worker makes? No. But when you factor how much my payment is in Laotian currency they are probably making more than the US worker. The average income in Laos is about $200/year. I can help them to make that in 1 month.

You know I believe the capitalist system is inherently evil (perhaps we disagree here) but I live in a world dominated by that system. I would not purposely exploit someone, unless it was Jeff.

Yesterday was Makha Bucha, a Buddhist holiday. Businessess were closed in observance and everyone went to the local temples in candlelit processions in the light of the full moon. It was very beautiful. Later I went to the beach with my friend Jarunee and we remembered the Loy Kratong festival we shared on the same spot in November.

I went to see Aoy, but the shop where she worked was torn down. Some mutual friends said that she was still in town and I will try to track her down if she wants to see me. I don't know. I only hope she is okay.

Mercifully, the days are going by slowly. Usually I'm looking at the calendar every day knowing that I'll have to go back soon. This trip is very relaxed. I'm running into a lot of my friends even before I can contact them. This is a small town and in many ways I know it better than Tucson. It feels like I'm home.

Oh well, I hope to read more posts from everyone. I miss you all, even when you're pissed off.

No, your not evil, but you may be painting a target on your head. I wouldn't be surprised if you piss off some local merchants who find out some crazy, ballsy, capitalistic American white pig,(thats you, John) is going around paying premium wages to craftmen. Now there is a local middleman who is not happy and won't think twice about paying a price to have this greedy American busybody taken out on his next visit and set things right.

I fully expect to never hear from John after one of his visits, his body mysteriously disappearing in the Thai jungles.

I'm not saying John won't be successful, all I'm saying is I won't be surprised if he angers the local business community and gets his ass in some serious trouble.

Yeah, Ken was/is upset with me, but in time all will be ok. We talked it over, I held myself accountable and apologized. Not to go into details but Ken and I have talked it through and not sweep it under the rug.

Easy, John, I was only poking fun, but here goes.

>Try buying anything in America now that
>isn't the product of servere exploitation of foreign
>workers.

Not only do I try, I succeed in large measure.

>Will I pay a Laotian craftsman the same wage
>a US textile worker makes?

A US textile worker makes minimum wage at Circle K ever since the factory shut down.

>my payment is in Laotian currency they are
>probably making more than the US worker. The average
>income in Laos is about $200/year. I can help them to
>make that in 1 month.

Ain't nothin wrong with that

>You know I believe the capitalist system is inherently
>evil (perhaps we disagree here) but I live in a world
>dominated by that system.

That's because capitalism is the natural outgrowth of human behavior. It must be reined in here and there to prevent abuses, just as your right of free speech is hemmed in with certain proscriptions. But, in the same way, those who shout "fire" in a crowded movie theatre should be jailed, rather than used as poster children for the campaign to end free speech.

I can use my freedom to lie and cheat, hurt other people, and spread hateful rhetoric. But that doesn't make free speech evil. It makes me evil. Free speech, free trade, they are like the knife which can be used by a surgeon to save lives or by a thug to end them.

There is no viable replacement for either. To end capitalism is to remove all motivation for commerce of any kind.

>Oh well, I hope to read more posts from everyone. I
>miss you all, even when you're pissed off.

Miss you, too, but I'm not pissed off

Well stated, Ken.

I agree that capitalism is the best system yet conceived, but it needs to be

I can't remember who said it, but "it is impossible to create a society that is better than its members." I can't say there will ever be a time when we will be "civilized" enough that other members of society will be better equipped or more motivated to look out for my best interests than I am. However, yes, capitalism represents freedom of choice, and all freedoms are tenable only to the extent they do not infringe on the rights of others.

Actually, I was surprised to hear John use the E word. Evil Empire, Axis of Evil, these are not Johnlike expressions. Country music is evil, that is indisputable, but capitalism?

I agree Ken. Sounds more like sour grapes to me. If you can start with nothing and end up with something because of determination, guts, ambition and hard work...I hear too many stories of success using capitalism to make their own personal success. You got a woman who makes her own cookies and starts an empire/a man who made pizzas and is now nationally known/even some tech wienee who becomes a world power-almost.....it started because they made it happen and capitalism was the best environment to be a success. Seeing it as evil....sounds like a grudge.

Yes, DD kicked ASS!!! Daredevil is a hero who resides in Hell's Kitchen by day as blind attorney, by night as kickass/badass vigilante. He was exposed to radioactive chemicals as a boy, lost his sight, but gained radar like vision and increased in agility, heighten senses etc. He is known as Daredevil: The Man with No Fear.

The comic has been around since the 60's created after Spiderman by Stan Lee. He wanted to create a hero who had a 'disability' but could overcome it and kick bad guy's asses and punch addicts and goons in the crotch.

Excelsior!!

Icarus(Nestor-Titus-Phineas{girl's name})

Nestor(Thanos-Adrian-Tressa)
Titus (Zeth-Martin)
Phineas Satyros+Ian McPhie = (Conner-Fergus)McPhie
Fergus McPhie (Twins= Angus-Hamish)

For whats its worth I think the name Arcadia should belong with Valkusian. I would also suggest IF Valkusian's line has a daughter, she is very insistant that her last name remains Valkusian. I also suggest that the Valkusian line tends to have just one child at a time.

I hate to say it Ken, but I can't imagine Phineas being married..not to say he doesn't have a child, although somehow you'd have to make things legal AND save face in order to not have it known of having a child out of wedlock. Any ideas???

Quit challenging me. I hate that. Besides, I have no balls anyway. I am a whining girly-boy who cowers in the corner at the mere thought of one of your manly, manly challenges. Remember that time I cried when you wanted to play Russian Roulette and I wanted to go pick flowers? So, you see, it is useless to try to embarass me into doing anything, as I have no shame. And you're way too manly. Look at you there, in your utili-kilt! I could never have balls like that. Boo hoo!

Magnetron is unconsciously pining for his one true love, Henrietta, his childhood sweetheart. Henrietta thinks Magnetron was killed in the war, and already married and moved away. Magnetron doesn't remember her consciously, but since returning from the war, he has remained faithful to her distant memory. Valkusian will one day hypnotize Magnetron, causing this memory to resurface, and Magnetron will go a little crazy trying to seek her out. He wouldn't give a flying crapwad if a child was out of wedlock.

I certainly don't want to tell you how to play Magnetron but I'd ask you to consider that during that time period, how one is perceived and accepted in society is a BIG deal. Many books were written about etiquette and social graces as more people were moving up to middle class status due to the Industrial Age.

Even if Magnetron didn't care, maybe Henrietta would or the other heroes might. I can imagine Mentiac being upset if there was a child out of wedlock and wanting to discuss 'a story' to tell others, afterall Mentiac is described being a socialite-he would be concerned and stress to Magnetron 'how it would look to others'.
(Just offering some feedback.)

Did any of these books address the propriety of robbing graves or reanimating disembodied heads for space flight?

That part makes sense. Except I don't see Mentiac being all that concerned either. He is a well-respected scientist, but not necessarily respectable. I think of him as a nineteenth century Richard Feynman. But now Mrs. MacKenzie I am sure would find it scandalous.

You mean write up decendants? That would be cool. I wrote a lot about Anton's immediate family and traced it back a generation. Valkusian is a decendant of Rousseau, the philosopher. The name comes from his Austrian grandfather, a general of the Napoleonic wars.

Why don't you also trace Satyro's family back a generation or two. It will probably inspire an adventure or two.

Oh yes, I bet you did..you wrote and wrote and when you thought you couldn't write, you pushed yourself to write even more...yes, I remember getting all that. You wrote SO much about Anton...I believe Ken and I were dumbstruck and overwhelmed with his life, his family, his solo adventures and his diary of his journey into HELL and had a standoff with Belzebub himself. That was SO uncanny. I think I'll go back and reread...oh, wait.....I NEVER GOT ANY OF THAT!!!

How about sending us that info. so we don't have to make shit up when Ken uploads the Valkusian bio.

Alright thinking meats,

Did anyone of you'se put some time aside to watch the Time Machine movie that came out last year?
I recently bought it and enjoyed it...not a cool as DAREDEVIL!!! but it was fun.

I liked the design and enjoyed how the ship would create a time bubble for the craft and its operator.

Jeremy Irons was interesting in the end as head Morlock-but he looked too much like Elric or the IceKing from the Bakshi animated FIRE & ICE.

I got my paperwork from the lawfirm with my official incorporation papers...Yipee....well, now what.

Yea, good question. But as I look back, it was only 4 months ago that my divorce was final....so there is some progress. I'll let you all know if the sales guy decides to committ to helping with show. I'm still waiting to get the DAMN CD from my friend here at work.

Thats it for me. By the way, Harry Knowles wrote an excellent review of THE HULK based on his recent copy of the shooting script. He RAVES about the film, it sounds like it will KICK ass this summer.
PS Hey Curt...See the new XMEN2 trailer? The one which shows a quick glimpse of Colossus changing and several scenes of Nightcrawler and his BAMF! Looks COOL!!!

I'm having dinner with woman I'm dating(Ellen). She wants to go over my radio media kit. I guess she wants to be helpful by going over typos or other shit.
"Yeah baby, thats real nice. I'll be sure to look over your notes. Lets play ARMAGEDDON. Take off the slacks and get your ass up in the air. Ok....now I'm Bruce Willis and I'm operating the BIG and MIGHTS DRILL MACHINE...you, or your ass is the TERRIBLE ASTEROID......"(need I say more??)!!!!

Hey guys, just a heads up....

I noticed John was online yesterday evening about 5:30PM CST. He was on yahoo messenger, but he didn't respond, as if he stepped away from PC.
I have not know John to 'just sit there' as I do when I'm online at work or step away from couch.

Its now Sunday 10:54am CST and John is still online???
Either he has signed on at someone's PC and its still on yahoo?? Normally he connects from Internet cafe...but this seems odd.

When you guys are online, check for John on Yahoo...find out what the fuck is going on.

Same thing happened to me, now two nights in a row. I buzzed him and even emailed him to try to get any response, but nothing.

John, what's up? Has someone hacked your identity?

Quite possibly. I saw Jeff online twice and logged in to chat but he didn't respond either time. Typical, really, since he always does this, logs in and then walks away from his computer. I made sure I logged out afterwards, but perhaps the internet shop I was in at the time had some spyware to snatch passwords, or maybe I didn't log out correctly. Someone may be using my ID, or maybe the network just shows me logged on since the shop was a 24 internet place. Thanks for letting me know what you're seeing on that end.

>Howza bout posting some shit every now and again?

I second that emotion.

I'm checking in here before I take the bus back to Bangkok. I'm sad to be leaving my little slice of beach paradise and all of my good friends here. Bangkok is fascinating, but it's just too much, like Las Vegas. It's good for a visit, but who can live there? I'll have a few days there to wrap up business and check in with the courier company. Then I'm off again on the 4th for another day in Japan. Crossing back over the dateline will put me back in Tucson on the evening of the 5th.

I saw Aoy again twice. Both occassions were tearful, but happy to just be together again. We talked a lot, but sometimes we just sat together basking in the mutual affection. Thinking of all of the pain and difficulties made the night a very cold place, but just being with her was like sitting next to a warm fire. I'm very lucky to have shared moments of this life with her. I wish the best for her.

I'll probably check in again before I fly out. I'll definitely be online when I get back. See you all soon.

HA! Ken, you are so funny. I busted up as soon as I saw that! We must have been on the same wavelength as I thought of posting "Fuck you rotten bastards".

I got my 'dear Jeff' email from the sales guy. He's backin' out of helping due to the difficulty of selling air time because of such lame ass reasons like: (with whiney voice)
Listening Audience statistics
projected increase of sales
any data involving listening audience etc.etc. that any business would need but I can't provide because no such show exists that I propose to create.

Fuck.

His points are true..and I'm very disappointed in telling me reasons why he chose not to help whether then tell me why he can. I hate that. I don't like people who tell me why they can't do something...tell me how you ARE going to do it. Even with unfaceable challenges, tell me how you are going to face them....even if you can't overcome but have the balls to face them anyway.

So right now I feel beaten. I feel like I got kicked in the gut and part of me wants to just stay in bed and forget the whole fucking thing. The woman I see now and then started responding with supportive one liners and trying to be humorous and see the silver lining and that just pissed me off. I don't want supportive words of comfort...I want some fucking action...I want a plan and help. 100 people could tell me what a good idea I have but its all empty if I'm all alone to do something that takes 3-5 to accomplish. Fuck this.

So, the one I thought would be my best chance for success has backed down. I am at a loss and don't know what direction to take so I'm going to 'hibernate' go back in my cave and stew for awhile. And the next muthafucker who tells me 'good luck' or 'make that dream a reality' or some other worthless bullshit response, I'll beat their ass with all my fucking strength and gnaw on their skulls with my bare teeth.

I don't know what to do next.

Why don't you and John just say "Hey Jeff, could you please post something?" When you post Ken, that only leaves John and myself...and John writes half the time or when he is really bummed out. All thats left is me. Kurt or is it Kirk? doesn't write unless someone sends out the Certis Darnhapster? bat signal. Like "Hey, Cert....are you really gonna have a chance to help with the caveman character sketch like you said you would or where you just pacifying me or couldn't say no? I've followed up with an email to find out about status on it and haven't heard anything. I don't know if you are still in Timbuktu or Land of the Javelina's or what.If you don't have time, then be honest about it and tell me."

(I've asked another man who is an artist to help out, he said yes...but I haven't seen shit from him either. Fucking men....you can't rely on one unless a piece of ass is included.)

Ok...back to posting:
So, lets not even consider Turk as part of the dialogue as the man continues to fade off...even when he kids about it...his actions speak more clear. Why do I even want to see this knucklehead in Aug. The guy doesn't have time throughout the year, is four days in Aug. gonna have Cletus change his committment and keep in touch more often after Aug? I don't know.

So that leaves me.

(Wow, isn't it obvious as I reread my email that something else is bugging me? I see it...but rather then censor my email I'll leave it out there for all to see. So, don't take it too personal Klaatu, I guess I am venting. Its not really all about you.)

Anyone care to have a good argument? I've got some pent up frustrations that I'd like to vent out any way I can....so if anyone wants to step into the ring, I'm feeling froggy enough to kick some shit around.

Well, I think you're a big poopoo head, Jeff, but that's just because my eggs came out a bit runny this morning. Thankfully the bacon was quite good, or I'd be bashing all of you quite vigorously.

Tempting as that sounds, no. I suggest you channel your energies into something productive, Jeff. If you want to get off vicariously, you can check out the latest Magnetron instalment where Satyros unleashes some of his patented hand-is-quicker-than-the-eye whoopass.

Guys,

Here's what's going on in my life these days.

Tahoe was great. The family does it every year, but the last time I went with them was like 5 or 7 years ago! I usually stay home and work on projects while the house is empty and quiet, but this year I said the heck with it. I really needed it. I just read and watched some videos that I brought. I just vegged out. I never seem to do that when I'm not on vacation. I played in the snow with the girls, too. I'll post some picts when a get a moment.

I've been so busy it's not funny. The wild part is that I'm not really busy with any personal projects. That is a first for me as I've had a major project going on since for the last 10 or 12 years. After I stopped doing research for the Okudas last April (they have stopped doing the books for a while at least) and after the Animated STAR TREK cards thing this past Winter (I heard today they are due out on March 26th), I've been just doing the 9-5 job, the administrivia of life and doing stuff with the kids. This latter task is becoming all consuming.

The kids are doing great. Chelsea aged 12 is doing fine in school except for Math. She can do it, but she isn't serious about studying - yet. I, myself, didn't start hitting the books until Sophomore year in High School. Recall I got C's and D's in my Freshman year and then the next year started getting straight A's. I'm not going to tell her that, though!

Phoebe is ten and she's getting all A's and B's, and Math is one of her best subjects. She's really funny and crazy like me. The two of us are sympatico and I can see that we will likely be best friends for a while, like me and my Mom.

Chloe is three years old and is incredible. She talks back to us and is a control freak in training. At dinner she'll tell us where to sit and where to put our cups, etc. It's a riot. She's also super cute and she seems to have a knack for music. Unlike the other kids, Chloe sings all of the time and on occasion makes up songs.

The relationship between Teresa and I is going fine. We need to find time alone more, but neither of us are unhappy about it. We will likely take a vacation around our anniversary (this year'll be our 14th) by spending a weekend at a fancy hotel in san Diego.

On three or four nights a week, Teresa works at 6:45 PM til about 8:00 AM, so I get the kids ready and take them to school at 7:20 and then go to work myself. I sometimes have to pick them up at 2PM because Teresa is sleeping after coming home from work. At night after she leaves, I often need to help them both study for tests the next day while fending of the wild and playful Chloe. Then when they all go to sleep - around 10 or 11 PM - that's when I have some quiet time. I usually get to bed around 1 AM. This repeats the next day. On weekends, if Teresa works, I have to watch all three kids and keep them relatively quiet lest they awaken Teresa who sleeps in the next room. Also, Chelsea and Phoebe have gymnastics three times a week and dance and they both entered the science fair last month requiring help putting their displays together, etc.

I'm not complaining. I love it all. It's just that months of this type of routine fly by and I haven't made a dent in any of my projects such as the paperwork to start selling our house and buying a new one.

Work has become drudgery since all of the interesting problems have been solved and what's left is boring testing and shaking the last few code bugs out of the system. Yawwwn!

I'm hoping to move to a new project. The AH-1 SuperCobra is gearing up to recode their avionics software suite based on an all-new Object-Oriented Design. I'm crossing my fingers and should know within the next few months.

One last thing. My oldest girls are really into American Girl dolls. They are a really cool collection of period-specific 18" dolls from different eras. They have all sorts of cool accoutrements and have professionally written books that tell of their adventures and daily life. Anyways, I made a small site that
allows visitors to explore the product line, and lists the items that have been discontinued. A beta version
of the site is online (http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~curtdan/AG_Collecting/AG.cgi?FILE=Enter), and it is
pretty much done with the exception of the paragraphs of text on the several pages. I have place-filling copy in there right now. Also the doll image on the right of the Entrance page needs to be retouched and resized. (The Entrance page doll picture is changed every day by a cgi script.) Check it out if you'd like. It took me a couple weeks of late nights to put it together.

Well that's the lowdown.

Yesterday I got back around 5pm. After a quick call home to make sure that everyone was okay and to let them know that I was back safe and sound I called work to check the schedule. I found out that my manager and friend, Bruce had died last Thursday. He was only 45. Probably the healthiest man I knew, he never ate red-meat, worked out regularly, rode his bicycle to and from work everyday for years and he looked like he was 29. He had a heart attack while riding to work and died on the front drive to the property. It's hard to believe that he's dead.

I just came back from the viewing at the funeral home. Margaret worked with him as well and we went together. I'm thankful I didn't have to go alone.

Just for the record, I do not want my corpse viewed. I would prefer that my family and friends bring pictures and letters to share with eachother. I would like you all to remember me as I lived, not as a cold cadaver laid out in a suit.

I worked with Bruce for about 7 years and I still remember the talk we had on Feb 1st, the day before I flew out. He was a good man and he will be missed.

Carpe Diem, gentlemen. Don't put off living your life. Live every day as if it were your last. One day it will be, and we probably won't see it coming.

I feel exhausted now, so I'm going to sleep. I'll write more about the trip later. Tomorrow I have to work a double shift, so be a little patient with me.

I had planned to bring a Magic Marker to add some flair to your presentation, but if that's what you want, I'll have to think of something else, I guess.

look at love
how it tangles
with the one fallen in love

look at spirit
how it fuses with earth
giving it new life

why are you so busy
with this or that or good or bad
pay attention to how things blend

why talk about all
the known and the unknown
see how the unknown merges into the known

why think seperately
of this life and the next
when one is born from the last

look at your heart and tongue
one feels but deaf and dumb
the other speaks in words and signs

look at water and fire
earth and wind
enemies and friends all at once

the wolf and the lamb
the lion and the deer
far away yet together

look at the unity of this
spring and winter
manifested in the equinox

you too must mingle my friends
since the earth and the sky
are mingled just for you and me

be like sugarcane
sweet yet silent
don't get mixed up with bitter words

my beloved grows
right out of my own heart
how much more union can there be

Curt,
Ever consider developing a website for the super hero group we used to goof around with?

Have the group picture done....click on each character which would bring up an individual bio of the hero.

Ken can tell you that there are a few websites out there with weekly or bimonthly chapters, similar to Magnetron. Not that you'd write stories..but maybe offer writers to submit stories using characters.

Something to consider. Its too bad we never finished the listing of heroes based on all 50 states. (Maybe have a Puerto Rican hero..who is allowed to hang out and visit but NOT officially a member of the team.)

If its anything you'd like to do..it'd be fun to help you with state animals, state flags etc. to help create the other heroes.

Upon my return I was called back to work the next day and I haven't had a break since. I'm exhausted, but feeling good that I'm making some money. I'll finally get a free day this friday and I'll probably just sleep in and be lazy.

The shock and the sadness over Bruce's death has waned somewhat, but I'm still haunted by images of him in his coffin. The embalmers did a horrendous job and he looked terrible. I went to the viewing at the mortuary after work, but I had to work a triple-shift the next day, so I missed the funeral. I wanted to stay and talk to his family and friends, but I couldn't stay in the same room with the body. I felt this unbearable pressure to get out and away. I told a close friend that I didn't want to remember him that way and to forgive my early departure after only 10 minutes.

Work is keeping me too busy right now and I haven't been able to attend to everything I need to do after my trip. I'm buried in unfinished business.

The trip was very good and I have a number of great memories. Aoy was doing much better and I feel that she will be fine. I missed some of my friends, but connected with others. I spent most of my time with Jarunee when she wasn't working.

On my return trip I made a new friend, Erika. She's from Singapore and of Chinese decent. She lives in the San Francisco bay area and works in places around the world as a producer (primarily animation, but now venturing into Flash productions for the net). We met in Japan at the courier counter of the airport. She was on a return flight from Singapore and flies back as a courier frequently to visit her family. She has always stayed at the hotel the company pays for and I told her about the cool things to do in the area during a layover and she asked if I would show her.

I wanted to visit the recreation of an Edo period samurai village, but it was pretty damn cold on Feb 5th and returning from Thailand I only had light clothing suitable for the tropics. I opted to take her to Naritasan and see the Shin-sho-ji temple, one of my favorite sights. We did some shopping at the traditional market shops for local food items, ate at a cool local restaurant, and explored the temple and surrounding park. It was fun.

I have some good pictures, but my damn scanner isn't working. I hope I can get it repaired for a reasonable price.

Okay, I have to run off to work now. More later.

Okay, I'm glad to see I haven't missed anything...

I have received two pieces of email from you guys. One from Curt and one from Jeff: I thought it would be cozy to respond to both here on the discussion board, but I may reserve some things for direct communications. I don't know yet...

Yes, you read right! I received an email from Curt. We were corresponding most productively shortly before my modem blew a gasket. Since I recognize that the friction between Curt and I has been the cause of a lot of discomfort for all of us, and since I accept at least half the blame for that, I felt it would be a cockle-warming exercise to respond to Curt's warm and wonderful email right here for everyone to partake:

Curt, I am so happy to hear that my last email affected you so positively and profoundly. I, too, feel like a weight has been lifted from me.

It's regrettable that we have wasted so much time, but I am not the type to waste more time on regret, and I know that you are not, either.

I don't think we can necessarily pick up where we left off, because we are not the same young men we were then, but I agree that a barrier has been razed. It will take some effort, but I am confident that we can put together some semblance of the deep camaraderie we once felt so strongly and displayed so proudly.

I hope you know I am proud to call you "friend," as I am proud to call all of you friends. I hope to hold up my end of that relationship better in the future, but I feel a partnership in this endeavor. And no, I don't think it's necessary to dwell on our past difficulties, although I think if we pursued them vigorously enough we would find they were largely without substance.

I am sorry we didn't make a connection when you were in town. I didn't know you were here, although even if I did I have been extraordinarily busy recently. Your mother may have told you we keep bumping into each other as she is on her morning walk and I am racing out to my car to go to work. "Late again," I always say, and she always laughs.

..........................................................

Jeff,

Dear, sweet, goofball Jeff. For the last time, NO, I will not wear a Utili-Kilt to Vegas!

Only kidding, Jeff didn't ask me that, but you just know he was thinking it :-}

Mentiac or Valkusian? Hmmmmmmm. I suppose that Valkusian has more details upon which to build a bio, but there's plenty for Mentiac as well.

I don't know if John or Curt have any interest in this at all. My plan was to eventually write both bios and send copies to the corresponding alter-ego for editorial review. Mentiac's character will be fleshed out a bit more in some upcoming instalments, so I though I would do him first. Valkusian is kind of mysterious anyway, and the sequence of events surrounding his development are sufficiently complex I intend to do it last out of sheer laziness.

At any rate, you're right: I am hereby soliciting input from John and Curt. No pressure, no heartache. Whatever you've got over and above what you've already contributed, fire away!

..........................................................

John,

You haven't sent me any emails at all, you self-involved twit!

Then again, my response to your grief over the death of your friend was crass and flip. I apologize, although that is small comfort, I'm sure, and very late.

I can't say I am uncomfortable with the subject of death, although I am certainly not comfortable. I suppose I am lucky to have had very few friends up and croak on me, and most of my dead relatives had it coming ;-)

Seriously, the only time I have even been to a funeral was my grandfather's funeral. He was a bitter old man, and I felt he had died on the inside long before his mortal coil gave up the ghost.

All the same, his funeral had a profound impact on me. He was retired Navy, and his Elks lodge arranged an Honor Guard ceremony replete with flag-draped casket and guns a-blazin'. It was enormously dignified, far more so than his pettiness on Earth seemed to have warranted.

I can tell you this: I absolutely had no desire to see his dead body. And if he were young, healthy, and virile, as was your friend, it would have been infinitely worse to see him laid out like some retired meat puppet. I can only imagine how traumatic and disturbing that must have been for you, and I hope you are less troubled by it now than you were then.

When my grandfather died, I hadn't the least moment's reflection on my own mortality. I was younger then, of course. Now, when people my age die, I feel it more profoundly. It seems closer. It's not fear of my own death. It's more a "there but for the grace of God" feeling (without the God part, of course.) Hard to put into words. But I gather you know what I mean.

The loss of such a close friend... I can imagine it, but I refuse to imagine it. The thought is so painful, the reality must have been unbearable. Again, you have my deepest, sincerest, and most shamefully delayed sympathies.

..........................................................

Guys, I am kind of dazed these last few days. I don't necessarily want to discuss it, certainly not on this board, but I am pained, outraged, and sick to death over this fucking war.

I am functioning well enough. I am not a basket case like I was during Desert Storm. But I am not myself. I bounce back and forth between extreme anger and disgust, and more or less effective attempts at getting a grip on myself.

I feel out of touch with everyone I meet. They smile at me and I see blood on their teeth. I wish I could leave town and stay on a desert island until the madness passes.

But I have my friends. You three. I don't want to know what you think about George W. Bush and his war to end all peace, because it's easier for me to pretend you would all agree with me.

That aside, I know you all care for me, and empathize with my pain, even if you don't understand it. That feels good. It helps to keep me on track when I get to thinking the whole world has gone mad.

I love you, Curt. I love you, Jeff. I love you, John. You are the brothers I never had.

Peace.

Ken, thank you very much for your sincere and thoughtful posting. Letters like this make up the high points of our board and make me proud to have such friends.

Please do not worry about your previous sympathy post. I did not find it glib. I read it the way I think you intended it, as an expression of sympathy and a way to know that I wasn't alone. Thank you.

I'm not brooding over death on a day to day basis, but I would be lying if I said that Bruce's death didn't deeply affect me. I'm still drawn back to thinking about it all quite frequently.

No, I haven't sent anyone email for awhile. Yes, I have been too preoccupied with myself. Sorry to all. I posted a quick update here a while back to let you all know that I was, essentially, alright and as a brief launching pad for further discussion. Since I got no response I didn't really know what else everyone was looking for, so I thought I would wait for someone to post something. Ken, thanks for breaking our silence.

I think it's wise to avoid politics right now. I'm not very happy either, but I prefer to keep the focus on us here.

Love to you all, brothers.

Thank you both for your words. That is the gold I enjoy and miss, speaking from your hearts, letting me know you ARE ALIVE. Its good to hear what you guys are doing and making and thinking but THIS is the stuff that shows me your alive.

Its good to hear such words from you Ken, those sincere words of whats going on inside. Its those words that brings respect and honor from me to you.

Regarding the war, I started to watch it, then met a wonderful woman at church who is turning my life upside down and inside out. I will talk more about this later, I want to wait and see how all develops with her. I will say this, she is 6ft-attractive-blonde-light blue eyes-slim and fit-very involved in church, in fact she's one of the top people there-interior designer-has run her own businesses-powerful feminine energy-vibrant-strong faith-passionate-a leader-aggressive & very creative. In fact it was our creative spirits which attracted us to each other.

My point: In the middle of all this hell shit flying around everywhere....there is still hope. There are moments all around us to do good work. Ken, you might see people with blood and feel isolated and detached. You may have walked right past a woman who is afraid and uncertain and wished she had someone to go to and feel safe and feel secure and know that she is care about....at least by ONE man.

Guys, please don't let it become the complete focus of your life. Yes, I may be looking through the eyes of a love struck man and being naive and ingnorant. But I'm not ignorant to the person next to me or the woman whose hand I'm holding or the boy who doesn't understand any of it and wants to throw a ball or the little old lady at church who needs help gettign her coffee and donut to her table. Have hope dearest friends! The worst it gets, step out into the world and BE the lighthouses. Bring people back to the virtures you believe in and have passion about. Keep balance with yourself and with others. Counteract the deeds of evil and death with deeds of good and life. (Go out and get women pregnant!!) :D

words from my best buddy Rumi:

The Master said: This that men say, that in the human soul there is an evil which does not exist in animals and wild beasts - it is not from the standpoint that man is worse than they; it is explained by the fact the evil character and wickedness of soul and vileness which are in man are according to a secret essential element which is in him. Those characteristics and vileness and evil are a veil over that element. The more precious and venerable and noble that element is, the greater are its veils. So vileness and evil and bad character are the cause of the veil over that element; and these veils cannot be removed save with grave strivings.

Those strivings are of various kinds. The greatest of them is to mingle with friends who have turned their faces to God and turned their backs on this world. For there is no more difficult striving than this, so sit with righteous friends; for the very sight of them dissolves and naughts that carnal soul. It is for this reason that they say that when a snake has not seen a man for forty years it becomes a dragon; that is, because it sees no one who would be the means of dissolving its evil and vileness.

Wherever men put a big lock, that is a sign that there is to be found something precious and valuable. So you see, the greater the veil the better the element. Just as a snake is over the treasure, so do you not regard our ugliness, but regard the precious things of the treasure.

Well, this took a bit of research here on the forum. Due to Voy's Tortix server and twin VIC-20 processors which can retrieve static html pages in one hour or less during light traffic periods, I had to take on this project in shifts, but I do have an answer:

The venue is Vegas, the Luxor perhaps. Jeff was thinking early to mid August, while John was preferring late August. I definitely like anything in August, the later the better, but like you, am completely flexible.

Shouldn't conflict with your Germany trip, anyway.

Why are we meeting? God only knows. I think John wants to film his version of Jackass for the Thai market.

I remember bringing it up again and John tried to give me shit about since "WE ALL DECIDED..Don't You Remember"? and I was like "Fuck You, Prison Bitch." and John was like "Well if you'd take the time to remember..." and I was like "Lick Balls John"....and he said...

Ok..enough of that. What I remember was we narrowed it down to the week of Aug 11th - 14th. We arrive around 3ish on MONDAY and we LEAVE (are you listening John?) LEAVE mind you THURSDAY afternoon. We also narrowed down to staying at THE FLAMINGO. Rates are currently 65.00 a room, with special we can get it cheaper.
Them are the current facts as I know them to be.

Doreen and I helped with the 'Visioning Event' at the church I attend now and getting more involved with. Doreen and I created this Mission Impossible skit to get the group brainstorming. It was fun! We are great together and she is beautiful and full of life and energy and strenth.

Doreen and I continue to have good talks, even on Sat night she called me at 1030pm and we talked til 2am... I talked about being open, in our hearts and going in having good intentions and starting from there. I believe we had an epiphany that night REALLY coming to terms with our fears and our joys. I joked about how God is tired of being the liason between the two of us and decided we need to talk more TO each other and from God directly to us. She remarked that I was getting tired and talking silly.

That next morning at mass.....the homily was about being open and like a pine cone, letting that intense fire from a forest fire, cause the cone to burst to seed and create growth....and how our hearts need to do the same thing, allow our hearts to be open and burst with love.

If I was in a chair, I would have fallen off it.

Sitting next to Doreen, I FINALLY had a grace filled moment.

THANK GOD for hearing me and bringing her into my life. After the Visioning Event, we spent the rest of the day and on into the night together.

Although I still need to give her time and trust her so she can fully accept what is happening between us, I am FLOATING on air.

Jeff, that's great that you've found someone special. Although we can all talk about nearly anything, there is no replacement for having a deep heartfelt talk with an intimate partner. Really connecting with someone is so meaningful. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Best of luck to you both! Enjoy this wonderful time when you truly discover eachother. Don't rush it, savour it.

I had two CDs at my cube on Friday that I forgot. Some mutherfucker took them on the weekend.
May his ass shoot fire and searing pain til his guts are shat on the floor.

One of them was one of my favority CDs. Jon & Vangelis = Page of Life. That will be hard to replace as it was an import. It was not intentional to leave behind...I left without taking it. I hope that bastard eats poison.

I am also hitting it heavy with the woman I am in love with. Its the usual why can't we be friends BS. I will have to send you my ultimate letter to her as I stood my ground and proclaimed that I'm in love with her and I can't BE just a friend. My heart won't allow it. So I suspect the usual scenario that has plagued me ALL my fucking life...being so in love and being rejected due their fears. That sucks and it hurts but like the Benne Geserat way.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind killer
I will face my fear
and permit it to pass over me and through me
and when it has gone passed
I will turn the inner eye back to its path
and where fear has gone, nothing exists
only I will remain.

Sorry....yes Curt...Thank You. Oh, and thank you John for the offer to burn the cd and send it to me. Let me know when you mail it so I can watch for it.

Sorry guys, still self absorbed as I continue to weave my magic with Doreen and be authentic and brilliant! :)

Got new glasses, bought a better car since the engine blew in the old one back in Jan. I have a 90 Honda Civic. Nice condition, just bought it last night. I'm down to a 38 waist now...finally got over the 40+ catagory. I can finally see it in my face as I continue to make healthy decisions and establish a more athletic lifestyle.

I'm up to 7 prototype cards and working with a couple of artists and talking with Doreen on a more realistic vision of the company of paid staff vs pay per projects and be just a one man company unless others want to join partnership.

Speaking of Doreen....it is interesting to see her at times back away from me and need some time to process and absorb everything and decide to what extent I'm to be involved in her life then a few days later we are back in each other's arms and BEING REAL and opening our hearts and building that emotional bond between us.

For the first time in my whole fucking life I am truly IN LOVE with her. We have such good core commonalities. SHe is now getting nervous of the other issues which we show our differences. She is a doer....from redecorating a house and laying wood floors and tearing down walls, to running and playing tennis and staying very active. (When she was younger she used to model and was a national aerobics trainer for the entire Ballys corp.)

I still look at myself with her and am truly amazed..yet my king energy kicks in and I feel confident and wise with her and don't doubt and feel like she deserves better. She deserves me because I kick ass by touching her heart in ways no other man in her life can do.

Take care men!

Hey, I know you guys are about as Christian as the Pope is an Illuminati member, but I still wanted to wish you guys the best. Hope you have a pleasant Easter however you celebrate it. I've been helping out with each service by either giving a 'witness' talk or handling powerpoint presentation as part of the mass for Holy Thurs/Good Friday/Easter Sunday. Doreen and I continue to get to know each other and are enjoying our more intimate times together. (Yeah, we just call it sex, since she is not ready to call it 'making love' - Its really the same thing and we know it due to the emotional connection we have...but she is not ready yet to hear and accept those words. Same package, different wrapping.)

I may be on repeat here but I've made seven prototype cards so far some I have sent out and got positive feedback. I meet a young woman artist this Tues. She is really fired up over the project and if I like her style, she is ready to design website and help with photography and other art pieces. Got additional info from university on greeting card/art submission industry stats regarding what is reasonable price to pay artist to use art for 2-3 yrs.

Radio show on hold: Met with radio professional/actor specializing in voice over work. He is interested in producing show...to snazz it up a bit but NOT become co-host due to his voice work. He did state that the industry is hurting right now with the economy and war...so getting air time is hard...for everyone. He did suggest I use the time to connect with more familiar station, get their buyin, thus a more recognizable station may help sway businesses to advertise on show. Its not forgotten, just refocusing of cards. Waiting to hear from attorney about what else I need to do to begin looking for investors. I've also brought up the project to Doreen's attention. It felt right to do so. I don't know whether she'll contribute or not, if so....her skills and desire and agressive nature to succeed will be a big benefit to Inner Compass. We'll see.

Yeah, it was coopted by the christians, but we can all get behind the idea of celebrating the return of Spring.

I still think Voyforum sucks. I frequently give up on trying to check here because the page won't load most of the time. I'd like to think it's my system, but then why does this only happen on this page? Perhaps we can archive most of the posts on this page to speed up load-time.

Speaking of the archive, Curt, will you ever provide a copy of the old message board? I just want a copy. You don't have to build it up into a multimedia presentation, or anything. Just a copy. Please. Pretty please.

I know Ken's still alive because he's still posting Magnetron material. Ken, how's it going?

Jeff, I'm happy for you. I wish you the best of luck with Doreen. Give her the time she needs to learn about you and trust you. It will only make your relationship stronger.

This week I'm starting training to tutor English to immigrants (ESOL). That's community service I believe in and not as terribly stressful as the crisis counseling. It will also provide me with more teaching experience.

I've checked into substitute teaching here. I was hoping to catch some days before Summer, but the school district requires an FBI fingerprint check, and that takes a few months. In Tucson, they're paying about $90/day to sub, and about $30,000/year starting pay for certified teachers. My friend Tony is picking up his bachelor's in Education and his certification this Summer, after only 1.5 years of study from Prescott College. They figure I can do the same in less than a year, so I'm considering. First, I want some experience to either dispell or confirm all the horror stories I hear coming out of public schools.

Margaret has been working PT as a teaching assit. at a private school. She loves it, but they're totally exploiting their workers. She gets about $6/hr and the certified teachers get about $10,000/yr. So, most of their teachers are women married to big money makers and they're working there more as a hobby than as a career. I'd like to know how much the administrators make there. I bet they take good care of themselves.

Naturally, I'm following the news about SARS closely. It doesn't seem much worse than most influenza strains, except that it's a highly contagious motherfucker. Of course, I want to go back to Thailand again, but I don't see that happening for a long time. Hopefully, quaranteen measures will be successful in checking the spread and it can burn itself out, but I suspect it will spread everywhere.

As Ronald Reagan was fond of saying, "There you go again!" Honestly, I can't understand why people have to ruin perfectly good holidays with their kooky religious overtones. Keep your crucifixes out of my Easter Egg hunt, and I'll let you have a bite of chocolate! Deal? No?

Okay, I'll see your Holy Sepulcher and raise you one Easter Bunny, a Santa Claus, and eight tiny reindeer. There! Put up or shut up!

Sorry for that outburst. I am trying to envision Jesus giving his PowerPoint Presentation on the Mount. "Sorry folks, the damn thing crashed again. I think it's this frigging wireless mouse. Don't gimme that Macintosh crap, pal. Ever heard of Adam? Apple didn't pan out so good for him, did it? Anyway, turn to your printed notes, and let's see... where was I... lilies of the field... ah, yes! Here we are. Hey! I'm not finished here! If you want to chat amongst yourselves, there's plenty of room in Hell, okay?"

Lordy, Lordy.

Sorry, I've been so scarce lately. I hope to get my remarks in here before Voy's server is struck by lightning and devoured by a miraculously large swarm of unusually hungry aphids. Not that you'd know the difference.

Yeah, I've been working stupid hours, rivalling my Radio Shack days. We've changed our entire billing system, every system we use to service customers, and instituted a ludicrously overblown system for documenting every tiny adjustment made to every customer's handset. This required twenty-four hours of counterproductive training for each and every employee. Since we were already down two people in my department, and since this training and system rollout was followed closely by the inevitable system glitches, another round of lengthy counterproductive training on another topic altogether, and two more employees gone on FMLA, it's been a freaking circus and no cotton candy.

Took Easter coming along just to get a stinking day off. Thank you, Jesus! Thank you Lord!

Anyhoo, I've been keeping up with the woefully limited goings-on here in the Hogalum "Funhouse." Let's see, someone stole Jeff's CD's. Boo hoo! And John hates Voy Forums. Boo boo hoo hoo! And Jeff is blissfully trying to sort out the difference between sex and love. There's something we can sink our teeth into!

Jeff, it's simple. Maybe you can explain it to Doreen like this: See, sex is a process, while love is the product. If you want to create lots of units of a product, say, love, you have to fire up the processing mechanism, in this case, sex. When you have lots and lots of sex, many units of love will be produced as product, hence the phrase, "making love." Oftentimes, however, unpleasant by-products may result from the sex process. Therefore, the wise love producer utilizes prophylactic measures to reduce the likelihood of certain unwanted side-effects. Also, large quantities of unsold units of love improperly warehoused can result in hostile takeovers, often referred to in the love industry as "marriage." In case of such an adverse development, it is wise to keep an ample supply of surplus love available to sell off as necessary. This will keep sufficient capital available to maintain liquidity during the inevitable slowdown in sex operations.

Hope that helps.

Got a call from my old buddy Dave Sanderson. He was the guy I told you about who I trained to be a RS manager, and who pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, kicked drugs, got married, and settled down in Cottonwood, Arizona. He's getting a divorce. Losing everything. He's going to buy a motorcycle and disappear. Lordy, Lordy.

My own social life is every bit as satisfying. Lordy, Lordy.

Yeah, I'm alive, though. Just put up another Magnetron chapter today. I got an email from some guy who wants me to write a script for his online radio show. Don't flip out, though, Jeff, I think he's strictly small fry, although he's got some pretty good voice talent. They've begun a creditable production of an original Dr. Who story. We'll see how this goes. I'm guessing I won't be retiring any time soon, though.

Voy Forums giving you grief, John? I can't explain it. If it's the only site that's giving you trouble, you've eliminated your computer as the culprit. But I don't have a problem with it, and neither does Jeff, apparently, so it must be your computer. Except it can't be. But it must be. Except that's not possible. Even though it has to be. But it can't be. Lordy, Lordy!

Anyway, since I have given everyone ample opportunity to squawk at my half-baked idea of registering hogalum.org and no one has yet squawked, I guess I'll be doing that soon. You can all get email addresses like satyros@hogalum.org if you want, I don't know. I'll put up Magnetron there, and a new discussion board similar to Curt's old board, with teeny tiny photos. And lotsa emoticons for Jeff. And other stuff.

Well, that's it for ol' Secular Ken. Have a great Easter, and remember that too many hardboiled eggs can cause digestive problems curable only with enormous quantities of beer.

Just started watchin' "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". I've always loved that movie. Right there with West Side Story and Oklahoma. I believe you guys don't like musicals...I've always enjoyed watching them. Maybe if I walked around and sang songs of finding a good woman, life would be just fine.

By the way, other then John any of you other fucks ever watched Mulholland Drive? the David Lynch film? I watched it last night and I'd like someone to explain some shit to me about what the hell that movie was about. I was ok half way through it THEN it got weird and its really PISSES me off!!
I've got the kids this weekend, we just watched Men in Black II....good fun movie.
Alright, thats it for me.

I enjoyed West Side Story all right. I dated a girl who was nuts for musicals, and we saw West Side Story live at the SunDome, too. She forced me to watch some other musical on video, I'll be damned if I remember what it was called. It was a western, too, with a very young Clint Eastwood of all people, but that's about as much as I remember. As I recall, I didn't vomit all over the place when I watched it.

I think you should try that, Jeff. I mean, if you are ever drafted into the military and are looking for a way out.

John has exhorted me to see that one for some time, but I never have. I think I can help you understand it, though, if you're having trouble comprehending. First thing to keep in mind is that it is a DAVID LYNCH FILM! It is not supposed to make sense. If you want it to make sense, try taking some potent barbiturates with a couple of stiff drinks before viewing to enhance the experience.

>I've got the kids this weekend, we just watched Men in

I'm told it was not as good as the original (big surprise) and since I thought the original was effluent, I think I'll pass.

I think I asked this of Curt before, but what does anyone know about ST: Nemesis? Also, anyone seen Equilibrium?

I like the Rogers and Hammerstein musicals, like "Sound of Music",
and "My Fair Lady", and I love the family ones like "Willy Wonka" and the
crazy ones like "Little Shop of Horrors."

I liked it very much, but still need a second viewing to sort
out the twists. And, yes, it is very much a Lynch film.

>>I've got the kids this weekend, we just watched Men in

I liked it, but it seemed to be only 55 minutes long. It needed
a second plot.

Never heard of Equilibrium, but ST X: Nemesis is supposed to
be very very good - even better than that 1969 "Paint Your Wagon"
with Clint Eastwood.

Thats amazing! I was just gonna say..."Paint your Wagon!" Yes they DO call the wind Mariah. I've also enjoy the musicals Sound of Music, like Curt, and Jesus Christ Superstar, Carousel(sp), Nightmare before Christmas and Phantom. I could NEVER get into CATS or Music Man.

Well if you are familiar with M.Falls Curt, then PLEASE explain to me the following cause I'm truly tired of NOT getting his films.
1) What happened after the hot brunette opened up the blue box with the blue key?
2)Whats with the tiny old couple, who were introduced at the beginning of the film, scampering out of the street bum's shopping bag?
3)Why did they come creeping under the blonde woman's door?
4)I understand how the blonde#2, who shot herself and was found, and after the blue box was opened, it turned into a flashback of the blonde woman and what happened to her that caused her to kill herself. What happened to the blonde#1 who was the aspiring actress?

Someone give me some freakin' answers!!

Oh, by the way...I've heard good and bad about Nemesis. Some say action is great and hot but the magic of the characters is lacking. I understand all the footage bringing back Wil Wheaton was dumped. Others say movie is good fun and a really good ST movie.
Equilibrium, I hear is a movie strongly influenced by Farenheit 451, but the director says no way.

Musicals, eh? This is one area where I'm almost totally outside the loop. Generally I despise musicals, with only a few exceptions. I actually own the DVD of Nightmare Before Christmas. It's very fun, has great animation, and I'm a Danny Elfman fan. Other than that, I have great affection for Fred Astair/Ginger Rogers musicals. I can't explain it, but I've seen them all and I go back and watch them again every few years. I discovered them on TV in childhood and they work for me in some surreal cartoony sense.

The other musicals you've all mentioned are, in my opinion, the ultimate form of torture and are quite unendurable for me. Why? Who the fuck knows.

Mmmmm, David Lynch. A man after my own psychotic heart. One of my favorite filmmakers. I have the M.Drive DVD. I only wish they would release his previous film, Lost Highway. That's my favorite.

Jeff wants answers to M.D. What can I say, Jeff? Isn't it totally obvious to any fool what it all means. Truly, it's so elementary that it would be a waste of time to go over it all. Sorry, I couldn't resist tweaking you for a second. If you demand answers you should refrain from watching Lynch's films. I consider them dream-art. They slip off into the irrational world of the subconscious. The images and motifs resonate to create feelings, atmosphere, and evoke emotions. Yes, the ideas can make you think and often frustrate your conscious mind, but this is much like recalling a dream.

I think Lynch is right to not explain his films. Sometimes he slips out hints in interviews, but you won't find a director's commentary on his DVDs. If he turned them into puzzle pieces with set solutions they would lose their mystery. I suspect that you think this is a cop out. I'm not hiding the answers, Jeff. There are some things in each of his films that escape me. But not the parts you asked about. Those are obvious. Sorry, one last jab for the road. :-)

I want some goddamn answers to that movie!!! Forget Lost Highway - That movie sucked balls! I couldn't figure ANY of it out...it started out cool then made a left turn to the land of mushrooms and Ambien.
Lousy fuck.
It figures you wouldn't lay it out and give me some answers...

I know this is an old thread, but what the hell. I figured I'd revive it since I finally got around to seeing some older movies and wanted to comment on them.

The Perfect Storm: George Clooney vehicle, a swordboat in this particular instance. I would love to blame Clooney for this, but it seems no one in this film can act, including Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, who I ordinarily don't hate. Diane Lane delivers a pretty solid performance, but the dialogue in this movie is so trite and predictable, it's impossible for any mere actor to rise above it. The film is based on a true story, but you'd never know it from the two-dimensional stock characters and situations festooning the watery thin plot. The ILM special effects steal the show, I'm afraid.

A Beautiful Mind: Okay, I was prepared to throw away two and half hours on this one just to watch Jennifer Connelly, who is beautiful, and it did win 4 Oscars after all. But Russell Crowe and (ulp) Ron Howard? {shudder} I have managed to miss (not on purpose) all of Crowe's work and therefore know nothing about him except that he likes to beat up paparazzi. It was Opie that gave me pause, though, as I hated Cocoon and Backdraft and just about everything he has ever done. His direction always seems so self-conscious and heavy-handed and pseudo-epic, like he's trying to outSpielberg Spielberg. In this case, I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a great story, well-dramatized, excellent dialog, beautifully shot, and the casting was spot on, especially Ed Harris as Black Ops Parcher. And Howard finally allows his characters to be real people free from the responsibilities of being superhuman archetypes writ large. He shifts gears kind of rough, but it works somehow, probably because of the unusual subject matter, and he has a light touch when it's called for. Russell Crowe is believable, if not riveting as John Nash. Ed Harris is solid as always. Christopher Plummer is, well, frigging Christopher Plummer! Towers over all of Howard's previous work, in my opinion.

Djaaah! Paint Your Wagon! Yes, indeed. I thought it was kinda fun.

I'll have to see Nemesis, of course. I wondered if you had any juicy inside info on it.

Equilibrium is not in wide release. From reviews, I gather it's a pretty well-done budget sci-fi piece mixing elements of Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, and 1984. A future society where people are required to take drugs to dull their senses and emotions. Sense cop forgets his meds one day, flies off the handle, freaks out his partner. High drama and gnashing of teeth ensue.

That's a fun review. I first heard about this film from the book Mondo Macabro: Weird & Wonderful Cinema Around the World by Pete Tombs. His book Immoral Tales which focuses on European Sex & Horror films from '56-'84 is also good. It makes me think of those terrible movies we watched at the Big Sky drive-in.

I thumbed through that (Immoral Tales) when you brought it to Vegas during H2000. An impressive compilation. So much lingerie. So much latex. Ooh la-la!

Ah yes. I'd like a Triple Avalanche of Horror Hot Dog with enough mustard to obscure the flavor, texture, color, and aroma. By the way, is my speaker supposed to sound like a kazoo going down a garbage disposal? It is? Okay, thank you. Thank you very much.

Are you guys having any problem logging in here? 60% of the time when I try this link I get no response, and when I do get through it take eons for the damn page to load. Are they using a TRS 80 computer for a server, or what? Many, many days go by when I can't log in, or give up waiting for a response from this server. Am I the only one having these problems?

Do we have any alternatives?

"We are working hard to address the recent problems VoyForums has been experiencing--we will not be satisfied until the problems are resolved."

"Speed should be increased--but we will have to wait until Monday, which is a peak access time, before we know how much our improvements have succeeded. For your information, VoyForums has the highest traffic on Mondays through Wednesdays during the U.S. daylight--peaking at noon PST (Pacific)."

Are you double-clicking or triple-clicking? Maybe I forgot to tell you that you have to triple-click to get into this forum. And don't use your index finger, use your pinky. It helps if you're in the Lotus position at the time, and (I'm probably just superstitious, but) I recommend wearing your Spiderman Underoos. And a head-to-toe glaze of tempura batter. While facing Mecca.

Oh yes, I do that periodically. Picked up a ZIP drive and couple crates of garbanzo beans (don't ask).

John, maybe you need to be asking the deeper question: "How is THIS like my life?"

Is it really JUST your system John? Are you doing something wrong? Having troubles with it?

Just come out with it....we know its not about 'your system' and we know VoyForum isn't REALLY Voyforum but everything else outside of your area of influence. Are you having trouble connecting with the rest of the world John?

Guys, I've pretty much shot my wad with my two brief but scintillating movie reviews, my mildly interesting news that Magnetron is being considered for an internet radio production, my hilarious scenario "Jesus' Powerpoint Presentation on the Mount," my heartfelt and fiscally sound white paper on love production, and my obviously ill-considered crackpot scheme to register hogalum.org and create a brand new message board. So I have no new grist for the mill, and hereby officially relinquish the floor to anyone with something to say...

Ken...the Jesus 'skit' was awesome..I thought it was hysterical and would appreciate and welcome more "Jesus-What REALLY happened" scenarios. I also support the Hogalum.org site and the radio programs would be cool. I'm not worried....I think its great, I just want to be the first to say "I told ya so!" :)

I have an artist, Elizabeth(27-blonde-gr.eyes-cute face&figure) who wants to be a part of Inner Compass. She has agreed to start working on the logo, see if she can add some flair to my prototype cards, brochures for IC, web site design AND much later, create a newsletter which I'll inlcude when we start selling the cards at conferences...the newsletter hopefully will expand to become IM Magazine. I went to Art Institute Senior Thesis showcase and have some good leads. I'll continue to network with artist for their art work and by mid May pay the 75.00 to regist. IC's domain name for the next 2 yrs. Then when we are ready with design, get webhosting acct and get the site up by end of June. Can't decide between InnerCompass.net OR InnerCompassLLC.com.

Spent all day with Doreen and her kids..riding bikes and rollerblading. It was a good workout. I finally got under the 40" waist line and now a happy 38. Doreen is a great influence on having a more active lifestyle. Yesterday I would have spent the day inside....instead I got some sun, worked out and continue to enjoy Doreen for TODAY and STOP worrying about the future. I continue to learn some BIG lessons regarding giving up control, taking the relationship as it comes EACH DAY. IF I stop trying to hold onto her, based on what I WANT in a future, and instead just BE when I am with her in the present....I find myself BEING with her more often as she decides to include me in her life AND accepts my invitation to be in mine.

I wish I had a pic to show you of her. Maybe in August I'll have some.

Keep doing good things Ken!!!

Just got an email from John; he got hit with another frigging virus, so I guess he's still cobbling his system back together.

Jeff, I'm glad you liked the Jesus skit. More in the future? You know, I just might! As far as the internet radio production, I guess these guys are flakes, because I wrote them back about five days ago and have recieved no response. I think they were more interested in me writing for other productions, and I had to tell them I was not at all interested in writing Dr. Who stories, partly because I am not into fan fiction, but mostly because I don't want to become embroiled in copyright violations. I seem to have scared them off.

>I have an artist, Elizabeth(27-blonde-gr.eyes-cute

I discussed your idea obliquely with a friend in the web business, Mike Raymond (45-blonde-hazel eyes-ruggedly handsome) and he offered a tip for when things start rolling. There's a site called PRWeb where you can post your own press releases, and they have a pretty good track record of their copy being picked up by other media. Could get you a lot of exposure.

>I'll continue to network with artist for
>their art work and by mid May pay the 75.00 to regist.
>IC's domain name for the next 2 yrs.

You can definitely get registration for less than $75 for 2 years. In fact, you can get it free with many hosting companies, but you have to take care they are not registering in their name!

>Then when we are
>ready with design, get webhosting acct and get the
>site up by end of June.

I can recommend ANHosting.com. Reasonable rates, good service, and excellent tech support.

>Can't decide between
>InnerCompass.net OR InnerCompassLLC.com.

I vote for InnerCompass.net. Either one may cause confusion with innercompass.com, but .net is shorter.

>Spent all day with Doreen and her kids..riding bikes
>and rollerblading. It was a good workout. I finally
>got under the 40" waist line and now a happy 38.

That's great, Jeff. I just got down to 38 myself; thankfully I was able to completely avoid rollerblading.

>Doreen is a great influence on having a more active
>lifestyle. Yesterday I would have spent the day
>inside....instead I got some sun, worked out and
>continue to enjoy Doreen for TODAY and STOP worrying
>about the future.

That's wonderful, Jeff. But remember your car payment is due TOMORROW. Stupid future.

>I continue to learn some BIG lessons

I like this Doreen person. She is clearly making more headway than we mere males ever could on those fronts. Now, if she could just teach you to stop CAPITALIZING every OTHER word, YOU would BE nearly PERFECT!

>I wish I had a pic to show you of her. Maybe in August
>I'll have some.

Lovely idea.

Thanks Ken for the feedback! Those little bits of tid certainly help in regards to the web site.

>Just got an email from John; he got hit with another
>frigging virus, so I guess he's still cobbling his
>system back together.

Is it me or does it seem like John keeps getting these virus' from all those PORN and software downloads. Maybe fate or the cosmic universe is trying to tell John, to cut that shit out, otherwise he will continue to be plagued! Yeah, John seems to be targeted with the bad mojo.

Ouch....too much sun...it was a bitch shaving my head OW! this am YEOW! while it was so tender from the sunburn. Life is good. Kim has returned to WI from her trip with the kids to AZ. With her return I'm puttin my foot down on having the kids for the whole weekend and staying overnight as agreed beginning Jan. 2003. When my engine blew, I didn't bother since I wasn't in a position to get kids. NOW with a better car...and with Doreen's support...I'm ready to lock horns with the Iron Queen and get my kids for the entire weekend. Thats it for me.

Check it out: http://www.domain-registration-bank.com/

$8.75/yr with multi-year discounts. You can register InnerCompass.net for TEN YEARS for $79.90, or both domains for three years for less than $55. I recommend you go register at least one of them this very instant for a year. You have $8.75, don't you?

Ken, reading briefly over the legal document of Domain Registration, I get the impression that the Scottsdate based company and the domain name registration company would have some ownership of the domain name. I don't know....my experience...If its too good to be true....

Nope! I just registered DLMacKenzie.com and everything's ducky. (It just redirects to Magnetron for now). Really, Jeff, it's not too good to be true. They sell your name and email address to Nigerian death squads, but other than that, it's perfectly legit.

By the way, I went ahead and registered innercompass.net in my name, just to be sure. I'll gladly turn over the rights to you for a nominal fee, though, so don't worry.

Kidding! But you really ought to hurry. There's no telling when innercompass.com will smell the coffee and register .net!

Rats...I see they only take Credit Card as payment...I don't have one. I'm still putting burn salve on the wounds from the divorce and that includes my credit. I haven't had time to more in detail...and see if they do electronic check or I can mail it in to them. Maybe this weekend I can read over and see. Thanks for verifying Ken, I will move forward to getting the name registered...for the next 2 yrs.

Jeff,

It was difficult, but I managed to read every word of that review so that I could tell you in all honesty that I read the whole thing and didn't laugh once. Didn't even grin. We must have a completely different sense of humor.

If any of you yahoos are willing to assist me, let me know. I was going to register IC as InnerCompass.net from the site that Ken recommended. I was going to go with the 3 yr. term for 27.00. Unfortunately they only accept credit cards and I don't have one. If one of you is willing to go through the register process for me...with my info and use your card....I'll send you a check to reimburse you for the fee. Let me know....I can go ahead and fill out all the stuff from their site, create a print screen, paste it onto a word doc then send to you. Let me know please. I am meeting with attorney this Thursday to discuss next step. I've been talking with a couple of retail store owners....along with Doreen....and I believe I'm going to go with my original plan...of developing cards AND create IC as a retail store selling products and books for men. I'm getting some nice info from store owners about a place in Chicago.....for finding distributors of products. With the economy at such a slump, I'm starting to approach some of the other larger radio stations about the radio program...hoping that a much popular name may help with finding advertisers. We'll see....with the attorney's advice I hope to be in a better position to begin to approach people to invest. If any of you find yourself with time to assist in some way....I can pay you a small fee for your time. I could use help in a few areas. I know you are all busy with your own projects...just wanted to keep the window of opportunity open. Whether its artwork, photography, WORDS...I could use some good card sayings...I'm up to 13 prototypes so far....I'd like to get some good stuff for the Cro-Magnets...but I just don't have the inspiration for that part.

Jeff, I'm late for work, so more detail later... In short, you can't do that. They check your registration info against the credit card holder info and if they don't match, it's a no-go. One of us would have to register in our name and then transfer it to you...

I believe if one of you registered and tried to transfer my possession of the name would depend on me being able to meet their expectations and that includes having a credit card account available for them to use to renew....not having one...the transfer becomes null and void...IF that is the case...I'll handle it from here locally. It may cost more but at least they'll accept a check and it will be done. Thanks anyway.

Howdy gents, it's me, Ken. I have something of announcement here, and a request for feedback.

John and I have discussed this at length and we agree that the Hogalum Funhouse ought to be shelved for the foreseeable future, for the following reasons:

1) Slowness -- They're just too damn slow, especially since these new animated banners started appearing. John has grown tired of waiting for the page to load, and I am a bit sick of it myself

2) Security -- Though this page isn't listed on any search engines (to my knowledge), it would be easy enough for someone to happen upon it simply by typing http://www.voy.com/{random number}/ and I for one do not like the idea that some stranger might read these pages. Also, John has had some disturbing experiences with banner ads that seem to be targeted at us based on our current discussions

3) Archival -- It is very difficult to save our messages in any easily retrievable format.

4) Communication -- This board (and Curt's Hogalum Central Board) were both intended to improve communication between the four of us, but that doesn't seem to be happening. It seems most of our posts are of the "hey, how come no one's posting" variety, which is tedious and not very informative or enjoyable.

So, what will we do instead of posting on this board? My recommendation is that we return to email. Email is fast, relatively private, easily archived, and I hope that it will facilitate better communication and more true sharing.

I will begin archiving the messages on this board in a more user friendly arrangement and post it all when I have time. We can start emailing whenever someone has something to say...

Will we have another discussion board in the future? Probably, but I think it will take another form. John is looking for a better script, and I hope to launch a new discussion board at some point. However, I think it should focus on some group creative outlet or another to be determined at a later date.

Anyway, Jeff, Curt, what do you think? Agree? Disagree? I'll confess I've pretty much made up my mind, but I am open to input, so have at me...

5) Just tried to post this message and the frigging thing errored on me (fortunately, I was able to hit "back" and save my work). This kind of thing happens all too often.

Well, being one of the MAIN contributors to this media avenue I will agree and support ending this site. You are correct...we aren't sharing much. Maybe some distance is needed before we truly want to reconnect. I'll end by sharing one last tidbit. Returned from meeting with attorney about IC. I wanted to feel invigorated when I left the meeting but feel unenthused and kinda beaten. I'm progessing right along and he likes my business plans and start up cost analysis etc. but I was saddened to hear that the firm deals with venture capitalist...and until I can show that I have money invested in company and can give a personal guarantee......along with showing that products are selling....I'm kinda untouchable. My only chance for investors will be from those who are willing to take a risk based on passion and drive to make a difference, to take a chance with such a company but not very aggressive with expectations for a quick return. People are out there...now is the time to start knocking on doors. I guess the good thing is...I IN a position to start knocking on doors compared to where I was at 12 months ago. I was hoping the firm would step up and help me and instead its more up to me AGAIN...to make it happen and contact THEM to do the paperwork.

I don't know.

Part of me (That Aquarius-Magician) wants to prove them that I CAN turn lead into gold.....as I sit and ponder in my sanctuary while my pet Mynabird repeats "you can't do it".
I feel very unenthiastic.....I wish I had a muse to get the fire in my belly again, pick myself up AGAIN, and move forward. I feel like the marathon runner who has fallen...I don't know if I should just quit and stay down...or GET BACK UP.
