Want to put a positive (at least, fun) spin on a topic that's come up since Miss Universe aired. How Miss USA has faired at Miss Universe historically.

Since 1970 (55 years), here is USA's record:
5 wins
20 additional Top 5 placements, for 25 Top 5 finishes
20 additional Top 10 placements, for 45 Top 10 finishes
10 not in Top 10 at all

So when Miss USA makes the Top 10, she then makes the Top 5 56% of the time (25 out of 45).

I like to do my own scoring, and have made a little project out of it with so many old pageants on Youtube in recent years. Of the 45 years since 1970 where Miss USA made the Top 10, I think she deserved the Top 5 29 times and the crown 6 times (4 of them: 1980 Shawn Weatherly, 1986 Christy Fichtner, 1987 Michelle Royer, 2004 Shandi Finnessey)... so Miss USA actually does better in my own personal rankings then she does in the real pageant. And while I am an American, I can assure you I am not especially patriotic in a way that would skew the results :)

With all that being said, what Miss USAs do you think were over-scored vs. under-scored?

OVER-SCORED: I had 1978 Judi Andersen and 1982 Terri Utley dead-last of their Top 10s, but both made the Top 5. Judi even made it all the way to 1RU.

UNDER-SCORED: There were 2 Miss USAs who I thought deserved the crown out of their Top 10s, and yet didn't make even the Top 5. Those were 1988 Courtney Gibbs and 2021 Elle Smith.

All in good fun... what are your thoughts?

Subject: A couple of years ago, I was at a pageant at there was a contestant that I really liked. She did not win and after the crowning she went on to act in a very unbecoming way on the stage (refusing to congratulate or even clap for the winner, making rude comments and then stomping off the stage). She then posted really hurtful and rude things on social media about the judges, state board and winner. She didn't compete for a year or two and then I saw recently that she recently won a local pageant. My question is, do Pageant Directors have the right to tell someone they can not compete again? That kind of behavior seems like it should not have to be tolerated? I just can't imagine having to work with the girl if she goes on to win this year.

With finding out, here on this message board, that the only channel that would air the 2024 Miss Universe pageant staged in Mexico City, Mexico, would be that of Spanish-language channel Telemundo, I suffered my way watching it with limited Spanish from grade-school.

After the swimsuit competition, we saw a man in a tux speaking, and could barely understand something about "the legacy of the woman". Who was this man (and his title), and what was that all about, and did it include the women also being those few who are transgendered that are allowed to compete?

And speaking of men, that Telemundo co-host Carlos Adyan is so cute, telegenic, and should host Miss Universe someday like Mario Lopez. But sorry girls, he is married, and gay on top of it.
htt://www.instagram.com/carlosadyan/
http://voyagemia.com/interview/meet-carlos-adyan-telemundo-doral/

And it was nice to see Miss Universe 1978, Margaret Gardiner of South Africa as a judge, as she was the first woman to be crowned Miss Universe in Mexico when she won the title in Acapulco, Mexico on July 24, 1978. Just too bad Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux dropped out, but did she watch the pageant or went home before last night's competition? And who was the contestant that was berated over being Nigerian (Miss Nigeria, who ended-up first runner-up this year)? See story:
http://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg4dmd2vjjo

Wonder just how bad Miss USA 2024, Alma Minerva Cooper of Michigan, did in the preliminary judging to not even make top 30 in the competition?

And at least twice during the three-hour telecast (one time immediately after the swimsuit judging) there were promos for this Latina Miss Universe reality show in 2025. Any clue what that is and who can apply? Surely, I hope this is not the precursor test-run of some reality show in ten episodes or something like America's Got Talent or American Idol in selecting Miss Universe next year or in the future. If you know Spanish, here is the website they promoted:
http://www.telemundo.com/

Was there not once a conversation of having the actual Miss America competition not be a one-night show, but a series of reality type competitions? That would be disastrous for sure.

This was posted last night, about regions of the world awards, seems like a take-off of what Miss World does. Whats the need for it?
http://www.voy.com/229344/15405.html#post

And lastly, any reason why Miss Iran was named Miss Persia, which is an antiquated name for Iran? Was her country pageant known as Miss Persia Universe?

.....Miss Volunteer America. Wasn't it started by two former MAO state directors who were disillusioned at the time the direction MAO was taking? I have heard the numbers in the state pageants are WAY up and contestants are seeing this system as an alternative to MAO state and locals.

Saw this on a Miss Universe fan site’s SM post :

“On January 2024, after the announcement of the removal of age limits, it was reported that the Miss Universe Organization is lowering the minimum age requirement from 18 to 10 starting with the 2025 pageant, with similar protocols to Miss Teen USA being used if the winner is aged 10-17. Following the nomination of Matt Gaetz to United States Attorney General by President-elect of the United States and former MUO owner Donald Trump, these reports have resurfaced, with a minimum age being lowered to 6 instead of the originally reported 10. This has not yet been confirmed or denied by the MUO.”

If this is true (which I HIGHLY DOUBT), RIP MUO (1952-2025)

Throughout Miss Universe they keep repeating there were 125 contestants. Didn’t they start with 130? I know Panama was DQ, and South Africa left, but who else? Was it there a contestant from Zaire?

What were the first two things she told us when taking over:

* I will never hold the pageant during the holidays
* I have enough money to run Miss America for another 100 years.

Her track record has not improved since then. Now she & Ryan are claiming victory and spreading more lies.

-Glenn & his team need to be sent every communication they send out
-The IRS needs to be called to review the finances
- The last 3 classes need to make a record of monies owed
- Testimony needs to be taken from vendors here and at FL/CA USA
-EDs need to find their voice and demand answers

We can not let more damage be done to this organization

For those who made a Miss Universe 2024 prediction list, which includes Miss South Africa and Miss Kosovo, you might want to make a reconsideration as both have left the international competition in Mexico.

For Miss Kosovo 2024, Edona Bajrami, at 37, who suffered an injury to her left foot, which required her to wear an immobilizing boot, does not even belong in the pageant, which should be for women ages 18 to 26, at most.

http://www.hola.com/us/entertainment/20241116730454/two-more-candidates-out-miss-universe-2024-what-happened/

And the people of South Africa can thank Mia Le Roux for that country now not airing the 2024 Miss Universe show, as if folks there would not like to see the pageant anyway?
http://x.com/PhilMphela/status/1857428791896789445?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

And odd, the USA Network still lists the movie The Hobbit for tomorrow night, same time slot as what we are misled (?) to think will be the two-hour Miss Universe show?
http://www.tvinsider.com/network/usa-network/schedule/

Does anyone know if actually the 2024 Miss Universe pageant is tape delayed tomorrow for broadcast on USA at a later date? But American Telemundo has a two-hour Miss Universe preshow Saturday from 6--8 pm Eastern/5--7 pm Central, and then the live pageant show telecast.

And now its Emilio Estefan's turn...he will be involved with the 2024 Miss Universe show in Mexico, while his wife Gloria Estefan performed at the 1986 and 2004 Miss Universe broadcast shows from Panama City, Panama and then in Quito, Ecuador:

Check out this disaster. If you didn't think Miss Universe could get any worse watch this 3.5 hour disaster.

Cliffs
Preliminary each judge spent 3 minutes individually with each delegate for interview.

Only national costume and swimsuit were scored preliminary night.

Evening gown was initially not to be included in preliminary but the girls and queens (men in drag) in Mexico revolted and yesterday it was announced Gown would be back. By this point, the show was 3 hours in and many girls did not show up on stage. The actual gown presentation itself was only 12 minutes with groups of 6. This was not scored.

Very important:The top 30 we will see Saturday are only based on interview, costume, and swimsuit with interview I think 50 percent or more of final score.

The top 30 will compete in swimsuit and represent a top 4 from each region. So girls that have no business in the top 0 will get called.top 12 will compete in gown then a final 5.

Rbonny Gabriel never needs to host again. She sounded like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian circa 2000s.

Europe has some beautiful girls this year but they are completely invisible compared to the latins.

Speaking of the Latins, Cuba is beautiful. However, I do not support white facing cubans. I am positive she loves in Miami.

Poor South Africa withdrew last night. Its really shameful as Nigeria, who is stunning but is completely lost in the field, would have had better prep styling and confidence under the South African banner. South Africa will regret this decision.

USA is an absolute embarrassment. I couldn't think USA prelim performance could get worse than some of the bombs of years past but this girl just ain't it.

Asia is another bomb. I will say Cambodia is the top in this group, she was confident all around. Its certain, unfortunately, that Filipinas and Thailand will take 2 Asian spots.

Fiji is absolutely adorable. I will actually say all of the new islands competing are all adorable but there is no change in hell any are getting the call.

Reality tells me this is another latina crown to loose. While Mexico is host, their girl didn't do it for me. Yet, politics and a Mexican owner will ensure a victory.

Anne has ruined Miss Universe. But I can't say this beautiful confident, as Paula and that lesbian Anne who Paula professed her love for a year ago, had already ruined Miss Universe.

This is the first miss universe I have had zero interest in. Its basically a clown show and if you watch the 60 minutes of swimsuit, you will see just that. You have girls looking like this is miss grand international making the most awkward poses while rbonny and shaynece are screaming in the background.

I am embarrassed 😳

Will the USA Network carry the Miss Universe Competition on November 16th?

Yes, the USA Network will indeed carry the Miss Universe Competition on November 16, 2024. This year marks the 73rd edition of the pageant, which will be held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. The event is significant as it is expected to feature representatives from approximately 130 countries, making it one of the largest competitions in its history.

The broadcast arrangements for this year’s pageant include a live airing on Telemundo, which is the exclusive Spanish-language home for viewers in the United States. Additionally, it will be available simultaneously on Telemundo Internacional and USA Network cable channels for audiences across Spanish-speaking Latin America. This means that viewers in the U.S. who prefer to watch in English can also tune into the USA Network to catch all the action of this prestigious event.

The reigning Miss Universe, Shennis Palacios from Nicaragua, will crown her successor during this ceremony, which promises to showcase not only beauty but also cultural richness and social missions from contestants around the globe.

In summary, the USA Network will carry the Miss Universe Competition on November 16th.

That should tell you something right here about the intentions of this organization regarding it's titleholders and contestants. She was only leaving her room to put on some makeup and look for some items she left. I would think that is hardly enough reason to toss someone out. I don't think she signed an NDA because she gave an interview to a Spanish-language site that asked why she was tossed out of the pageant. She was getting ready to attend the Saturday night gala when she was informed she was no longer in the pageant.

Comments anyone on this?

Please do not say that Robin won the temporary injunction. That is categorically false. You are deliberately misleading the state EDs with that comment. While the judge didn’t go all the way in declaring that Robin be removed immediately, he did everything else. To downplay the results of the legal trial that is only happening because Robin partnered with Glenn is absurd. The pageant community has been following this with great interest. The judge absolutely stated he believes Glenn to be the rightful owner of Miss America. She will have to continue with the lawsuit to try and remain in control, but this judge has basically said she will lose that case. It’s in black and white for the whole world to read. The judge said that Glenn has the appropriate ownership documents, that Robin didn’t cover any debts herself, and that she didn’t sign her name as the owner on the agreement she signed with MAO to purchase it. She doesn’t have one bit of evidence in her favor for actual ownership.

I personally think it’s time for Glenn’s team to start taking over the reins. Sure Robin can stay in place too however she wants until the final lawsuit in a year or so, but its time for Glenn’s group to start communicating with the EDs and to start getting to know them and how the pageant operates.

The judges decision was very clear about the future of Miss America. Glenn is in charge.

As far as the temporary injunction goes, the Judge ruled today. He has sided with Glenn and believes there is reasonable evidence that Glenn is the rightful owner and will prevail in the long run on this case as being the rightful owner.

Judge doesn’t remove Robin at the moment but gives Glenn access to all the financial books including Quickbooks and access to the IP info. Judge orders that Robin cannot switch anything like the SUNBIZ or anything else related to Miss America.

Robin gets to run this Miss America pageant to keep the continuity If Glenn wants, judge will appoint a neutral third party “corporate Monitor” to also have access to all the books and to make sure that Robin complies with everything in the order.

In short, Glenn wins and will likely prevail in the “real” trial of who owns Miss America. At that point, when he wins the future second trial, he will be able to fire Robin completely at that point.

Not verbatim, but Director was asked about how the semi/finalists and winner were chosen. The answer was probably too honest.

The pageant is my bread and butter - how I make my living. I am not going to trust my brand to just anyone. From the minute the contestants arrive, they are being scored. We have them for a month before the actual pageant. The executive committee meets nightly to discuss selections. This is a business. We first look at the body. If the body isn’t perfect, they don’t advance, regardless of other factors. They must be able to wear wardrobe sponsored gowns. Next is facial beauty. And have our own cosmetics line, so this is also important. Most contestants at this level have both of these. Third is brains. We run them through a series of interactions. We look at how they perform in social situations, at press conferences, on stage. This narrows the field. Finally, this is a business. We look at where she is from and consider if this is a market we want to expand to. We look at the strength and support of the national organization. We look at social media and the number of followers. We look for the best person to be the face of the organization. We run a highly impressive pageant event that is high energy and fun for the audience with many sponsors, but this is all to find our spokesmodel for our products. The winner and court travel for a year marketing our products. It is our business model.. we do use celebrity judges and give special awards based upon these and also may consider for lower rankings, but the executive committee determines top 10 and all rankings.

LIKELY OWNERSHIP- GLENN WINS
While Defendant (Fleming) presented her own testimony to rebut Plaintiff’s (Straub) ownership claims, the Court concludes that there is a substantial likelihood that Plaintiffs will prevail on the ownership interest claims at trial. Plaintiffs offered evidence that: (1) Mr. Straub is Plaintiffs’ sole member and owner; (2) Mr. Straub’s ownership and rights as sole “member” are governed by the LLC Operating Agreements and other documents related to Plaintiffs formation; (3) Defendant Fleming has never been a “member” of Plaintiffs; she was a manager and officer, which does not invest her as a “member,” and, (4) Defendant Fleming was terminated on April 15, 2024, and has no authority to act on behalf of Plaintiffs.

IRREPARABLE HARM- GLENN WINS
The Court agrees that Plaintiffs have shown that the possibility
of irreparable harm exists unless Plaintiffs have: (a) access to Defendant’s financial records, bank accounts, QuickBooks accounts and intellectual property (“IP”); (b) relief preventing detriment to the names and marks previously acquired; (c) relief preventing altering Plaintiffs’ business records, including SUNBIZ filings; and (d) relief requiring the safeguarding of any assets improperly converted, improperly taken, and improperly dissipated by Defendant Fleming, including the names, IP and physical property of Plaintiffs. The Court agrees Plaintiffs have met their burden to show that interim injunctive relief is appropriate to preserve the status quo and to prevent harm for which there is no adequate remedy.

IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF ROBIN- ROBIN WINS
The defense argues that removing Fleming from her role would cause
unnecessary disruption to the parties’ interests and the Miss America organization, which has long promoted education and leadership for women. The Defendants contend that Fleming has competently managed the organization and is its sole legal manager since January 2023, and claim that her authority over the Florida Plaintiffs is expressed in the corporate public records. The Defendants argue unconvincingly that Mr. Straub has provided no credible proof of ownership, and that testimony, including from Galle, reveals inconsistencies and procedural irregularities in Straub’s claims. Defendants suggest that disrupting the management now would not preserve the status quo but rather would harm the organization's ability to function and damage its reputation. Defendants argue that there is no public interest in disrupting the continued operations of the Miss America organization under Fleming’s management. Defendants assert that if a preliminary injunction is necessary it need not disrupt the organization and may be employed to preserve the status quo which could ensure continued operations, and protect the interests of Plaintiffs, stakeholders, licensees, and the public. As a result, the Defendants assert that the evidence does not support Plaintiffs’ request to expel Fleming while this action is pending. The Court agrees that measured injunctive relief is more appropriate and reasonably likely to preserve the status quo.

CORPORATE MODERATOR- GLENN WINS (Glenn’s Choice)
Additionally, exercising the Court’s broad discretion, at the Plaintiffs’ election, the Court will appoint a corporate Monitor to monitor the business activities of
Defendants, which would include among other things, contemporaneous access to all facilities, books and records, access to all communications, the right to review contemplated business activities, scheduling of events, contemplated contracts, and other material matters. The corporate Monitor shall prepare reports every 10 days, which reports shall be provided to each of the parties (and provided to the Court) on a confidential basis.

The money grab continues as Ryan asks people to shell out ridiculous sums of money to get undeliverable goods. Remember how badly this went last year? Reports of States not getting their table; tickets messed up; no program books.

Does Ryan not know how to proof a letter? It is embarrassing to read. The promises and true ticket value amounts don’t make sense.

Who is going to fall for this? We look forward to seeing the names of the people who decide to become CEO Circle Members.

As you may or may not know, there is a woman wanting to sue Miss American and Miss World for discriminatory eligibility rules. Particularly regarding the fact that you can't be married and/or be a mother. Recently, I went on the Miss America site and they seemed to "change" the eligibility rules. Miss America ONLY mentions AGE eligibility not marital status, being a woman, etc. Which, if a newbie were to visit the site, a married woman perhaps could think she could compete. Don't believe me? Go look at the Miss America website rules yourself. I think they changed the rules but are keeping quiet about it. Here are my thoughts:

It is clear that Miss America is in debt. It is clear that the participation numbers are EXTREMELY low. It is clear that MAO needs help. I know people will disagree with me, but I think allowing married women with no dependents to compete is fine. People are scared that perhaps a married women would get "with child" but for goodness sakes people, why don't you have the same ideology when it comes to a contestant dating/engaged to someone? Its 2024... if they don't have dependents, I say let them compete. We need the numbers, we need the funds, and quite frankly it would be a nice change of pace.

If someone could confirm with seeing the **NOVEMBER local contracts that the original rules still applies or if you are an ED and can ask about the lack of eligibility clarity on the website, that would be great! Thanks!

To understand where Miss America is today with the lawsuits and how far the Miss America program has spiraled into ruins, it’s important to understand the last seven years of the organization’s history.

1. In Jan 2018, the Forever Miss Americas banded together to start a new journey of running the Miss America program after Sam Haskell was ousted. There was 100% unity in the pageant community at this time and the hope and promise of an amazing future.
2. In summer 2018, the pageant was in turmoil as Gretchen Carlson and Regina Hopper hijacked the pageant and changed it to a new 2.0 version which eliminated swimsuit and the judging of physical beauty.
3. Cara Mund got the support of almost all of the pageant community with her outcry of being bullied by Gretchen and Regina. States banded together to try and stop Gretchen and Regina, except for the notable holdouts of Kay Alexander and Jan Mitchell who stayed silent.
4. A massive fundraising effort raised $50K for the legal defense fund for Jennifer Vaden Barth to fight the Miss America Org, but came up short on court victories in the end.
5. Gretchen Carlson and Regina Hopper racked up in excess of over $100K worth of legal bills to fight Jennifer Vaden Barth and the states legal fights.
6. Allison DeMarcus and her Tennessee Org are one of the franchises to be kicked out, only to move on and start the completely new Miss Volunteer America pageant system.
7. In Dec 2019, the Miss America contestants while in Connecticut are forced by Regina Hopper to sign statements acknowledging that Miss America can only pay for scholarships announced on stage if they have the money to pay for them. This leads to the “loophole” of the organization getting to announce scholarships that it legally doesn’t have to pay to the contestants in the end.
8. The Dec 2019 telecast by Regina Hopper and Brent Adams was the one and only time the pageant was “scripted,” with no real judging of finals night and a pre-written script with contestant placements already filled in before finals competition.
9. In 2020, Regina Hopper resigns, followed by the Board recognition of Gretchen Carlson several months later. Gretchen single-handedly passes on the leadership of Miss America to Shantel Krebs and announced her as CEO and Board Chair.
10. In late summer 2021, Shantel puts on a 100th Anniversary parade in a small Connecticut town, while the Miss America Foundation puts on a competing event in Atlantic City at the same time.
11. In Dec 2021, Shantel hosts the 100th Anniversary Miss America pageant in Connecticut, which will go down as perhaps the worst Miss America pageant in the history of the organization. This was also the first pageant not to be on television.
12. In Fall 2022, rumors swirl that Miss America is being sold. State EDs are all flown to Dallas for an all-expense paid weekend with new potential owner Jeffrey Hayzlett, who dreamed big for the future of Miss America back on television.
13. In Dec 2022, the Miss America Organization Board of Directors voted to sell Miss America to Robin Ross-Fleming.
14. In January 2023, Robin Ross-Fleming is announced as the new CEO of Miss America. Rumors swirl on the Voy message board that the real owner of Miss America is Glenn Straub. Google searches of Glenn Straub turn up horrible stories of his past.
15. Shantel Krebs tells members of the pageant community that if you want to know who really owns Miss America, to look up Glenn Straub. Robin-Ross Fleming tells the pageant community that she has enough money to run Miss America for the next 100 years.

And here we are today…..

States are starting to talk about a possible game plan as they look to the future. There are a group of states that absolutely will not send their contestants to Miss America if Glenn is put in charge. This is, of course, because of his horrible documented treatment of women. There are also those of the opinion that Robin should not be allowed to keep the organization because she single-handedly was the one that introduced Glenn to Miss America. At that time, all of the horrendous articles about Glenn’s behavior was available for the world to see and she still went ahead and brought him into the mix and even had Grace Stanke live in his guest house for a while.

There are two plans being tossed around at this time. One plan is to completely forego any national Miss America experience and just “close” Miss America by not sending any state representatives to the national competition until Robin/Glenn sell the organization to new owners. The second option is to host a Miss America pageant separate from Robin/Glenn. With the number of lawsuits Miss America is already facing and where Miss America is right now, it would be highly unlikely to the states to get sued for doing this. If Robin tried to fire any of the EDs, they would just use the same argument she is using with Glenn and tell her that she doesn’t have the authority to do that.

Also to note- those state EDs who completely kiss butt to Robin are being completely shut out of these discussions for confidentiality reasons.

100 seats are being held for staff, judges guests, sponsors, etc.
That leaves about 200 seats to be divided up among everyone else.

Miss America is in perhaps the worst predicament it’s ever been in. If you stop and think about it, there really isn’t a path forward.

If Robin is named the owner, she doesn’t have the money to fund the pageant. She was relying on Glenn’s money and no longer has it. By her own admission on the stand, she is using the “Miss America Scholarship Foundation” bank account to pay her legal fees. Her website for her Foundation boasts that there are “ZERO administrative fees.” This was why she didn’t want to work with the Miss America Foundation in the first place, because of the fees associated with running it. Now she is using the money on legal fees, which will be ASTRONOMICAL when this is all said and done. She still owes Bryan Cave 900K. I bet it ends up being a higher legal bill for this one. No one is going to give to support Miss America scholarships at this point. She’s totally sunk from a money perspective. Robin needed Glenn’s money for this to work.

If Glenn gets ownership of the pageant, he will be able to pay off all the bills and fund Miss America for the next 100 years. However, Robin just filed a 104 page lawsuit against him detailing the horrible, horrible things he has done to women over the years. Glenn can’t run Miss America because of this. It’s overly egregious and every state that sends a girl to Miss America would be sending them into a dangerous situation. Glenn is a monster and a very dangerous man. Can you imagine what he could do if he had access to the contestants and winner? States would surely revolt and not send girls to Glenn’s Miss America. Parents wouldn’t allow their daughters to go.

So essentially it is over. There might be some semblance of a pageant on January, but don’t count on it. If there is, it will be the last. There isn’t a way forward unless Dobin and Glenn agreed to sell it to someone legit. Thats not going to happen, so the whole thing will die throughout this monstrosity of a legal trial.
